Specialties
I offer individual therapy and couples counseling in San Francisco and online throughout California. My work with adults includes recurring relationship difficulties, anxiety and overthinking, self-esteem and self-criticism, and times of feeling stuck, disconnected, or in transition.
Couples therapy focuses on repeated arguments, distance, difficulty communicating, and loss of trust or closeness. Together we slow down difficult exchanges, understand the cycle, and work on expressing feelings and needs. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) informs my couples work, and I adapt to each couple's concerns and pace.
My approach is conversational and collaborative. My experience working with men contributes a perspective on emotional expression, self-reliance, and closeness that informs relationship work across genders.
I also offer premarital counseling and discernment counseling for couples unsure about continuing their relationship. Free 20-minute phone consultations are available. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., by appointment.

Meet the Business Owner: Bruce H.
I'm Bruce Hearn, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Francisco. I work with adults and couples who want to understand recurring difficulties, feel less stuck, and build more connected relationships with themselves and others.
My approach is conversational and collaborative. We look closely at what is happening in your life, how earlier experiences may shape your reactions, and what you want to change. I bring questions and observations, with room for you to disagree or tell me when something doesn't fit.
My experience working with men informs my attention to self-reliance, emotional expression, and closeness in relationship work across genders.
I was born outside the United States and understand the experience of building a life in a new country. I enjoy working with people from different cultural backgrounds, including the Bay Area's international community.
