She is in frail health, so I had a lot of concerns about the process, but Dr. Katzman and his team at the Del Mar surgery center where the procedures take place kept her absolutely safe and well cared for. The anesthesiologist is awesome! Mom has 20-20 vision two weeks later. The experience at the La Mesa office was good, other than some substantial waits on busy days. All told, I'd highly recommend.

I will be returning whenever needed, and I certainly recommend the doctor. Thank you for your service Doctor Ou. The office was clean and uncluttered. The counter staff was pleasant. On a side note: I brought in a new pair of prescription glasses that I purchased two years ago to see (haha) if the prescription was accurate; they were from a different provider; they were not effective, if fact they were deficient...I was not charged extra for the assessment, and I am grateful for the confirmation. Again, thank you Dr. Ou.

Superficial. Some doctors get high ratings primarily…read morebecause they just smile a lot. That seems to be the case with this doctor. Dr. Katzman recommended that I NOT get an Extended Depth Of Field (i.e. EDOF) intra-ocular lens SOLEY because I had Lasik eye surgery in the past, without even questioning whether my Lasik surgery might have been a very minor correction, which it was. He could have simply asked for my pre-lasik prescription and I could have provided it. Two prominent Los Angeles eye surgeons DISAGREED with Dr. Katzman, because they asked me for my pre-Lasik prescription which showed that it was a very MINOR correction, which does NOT contra-indicate an EDOF lens. Also, when I asked him whether the VA would pay everything for my surgery, Dr. Katzman said with a big inappropriate smile that I would have to pay an additional $6000 beyond what the VA will pay for a surgery on just one eye. Also, I was astonished that Dr. Katzman THEN spent maybe one third of my appointment time joking with his assistant during my appointment time right in front of my face while I sat in stunned, disbelieving silence. Then, when I asked him questions after that, he looked at me with bulging eyes and told me that he had to go to see another patient, - and so he RAN away. ALSO, I had made it as clear as can be to the Office staff and to him that the VA would be paying for everything. NEVERTHELESS his office charged my Medicare for the exam (which requires that I pay a percentage of the charge). Not a professional and careful practice at all.

Surgery was ok, but trying to get prescriptions for 3 different eye drops was a total failure. Supposed to process the prescriptions at our pre op appt one week prior to surgery. No eye drops received. After surgery had to have my Mom sit in a hot car while I stood in line in their office to request drops. After 1st eye was done, they confirmed that several patients experienced this exact problem due to someone in their office being out sick. The next month, when we went back for the 2nd eye pre op, they assured me they had measures in place to make everything go smoothly. Well, EPIC FAILURE AGAIN. No prescriptions received in advance of surgery. Apparently never sent in again. Day of surgery I knew better than to wait in the car. Soi I dropped her at home. After waiting on hold for 47 minutes with Dr office. I decided to go to the office. After speaking with several people, they confirmed the prescriptions were never submitted. REALLY??? I asked them to send to CVS. After u confirmed with them that they had been sent, I headed to CVS. Once arrived, I checked in and CVS had only received 1 prescription. I called the Dr office and they told me that it sometimes take a while for them to be received and processed. They confirmed that all 3 had been sent. After waiting at CVS for almost an hour. I got in line to hear once again only 1 prescription had been received. When I called the Dr office, they figured out 2 prescriptions had been sent to another pharmacy. REALLY? AGAIN? We will not be going back to this office and recommend you find another place that knows what they are doing.
