He suggested a bad key fob or sensor and it would probably start when cooler in evening. It did, so I left my car and a different fob. They told me they cleared bad codes and verified the good key is good, problem solved. They could've said it cost hundreds to fix-some dealerships quote over a thousand for new key and sensor- and I wouldn't know any better. A friend I trust recommended them. They are tucked away between 2 bigger businesses and in in 27 years here I never noticed them! That's a shame because I've had some bad experiences over the years. Not anymore!

Before I brought it in there I had narrowed the problem down to two things. I took him for a drive in the car showing him what was going on. I told him what I thought it was. I told him to please call and let me know how much I was looking at for cost before he did anything to it. Later that evening, Claire calls me and tells me what the problem was (exactly what I thought it was). He told me it would be 150 dollars to fix my car. I asked him if that was parts and labor out the door. He said yes. I asked my wife and she said to go ahead. The next day, I receive a call that my car was done and ready to pick up. I asked if it was still 150 dollars. The lady told me it was $390 dollars. WHAT?!?! I tried to get him to lower the price because he had told me that it was going to be 150, but he wouldn't budge. The really bad thing about all of this is that I could have literally done this myself for 50 dollars. I will never take my vehicle to this place and I would recommend that you don't either. He will tell you that it will cost a certain amount and then charge 260 percent of what he quoted you!!!!

My no-start issue…read morewas diagnosed and resolved but the the oil light was on (never been on before) and the manual 4x4 under the dash was left disconnected. I checked the oil, and the oil gauge would show, then disappear. It appeared to be a faulty gauge. I checked wiring, re-connected 4x4 and then drove the truck. Light came back on while driving and seized in seconds. Hoopmans said they would come back out and check, never showed up, didn't return calls, and went dark on text messages. 2nd Chance failure. I gave Daniel Hoopman a chance to resolve the issue and was again disappointed. Daniel came by for about 15 min to "take a look" and said he would be back on Friday as he needed more time then he no showed, no called. Daniel was given the opportunity to refund a portion of the labor but also went dark. Im moving on, and suggest others look elsewhere for a mobile mechanic.

My wife calls me from the new Meridian library. The van's misfiring--bad. She has all five kids…read morewith her and our other car's at the body shop! After we figure out how to get everyone back home (shoutout to our friends at Compass Bible Church for the rides), the next step is to figure out how to get the van to my preferred shop, some 6 miles away. First tow truck I called was pretty standard: You speak directly to the driver; he's busy, he's booked for at least 4 hours out; and he's not particularly happy to be answering the phone. I ask his recommendations and note who I *DON'T* want to try next. I call Torch. They answer right away and I speak to a router/scheduler/office worker. She's very pleasant, seemingly understanding no one is calling a tow truck because they're having a fantastic day. A driver's available in about an hour. No problem, I can wait. They have an exact price for me: $110. Stetson ("Like the hat?" I ask. "You got it!") calls me maybe 15 minutes later. He's wrapping up a job in downtown Boise, it's rush hour, he probably can't be there for an hour. But I can just leave the keys, he can do the drop on his own (he's familiar with the shop), and I can get back to my house more easily from the library than the shop. The shop has very specific directions on how to leave cars. I call Stetson back to relay the details to him: Amazingly, Stetson remembers my name from our call five minutes earlier, answering with a "Hello, Eric. Did you talk to the shop?" This use to be part of ordinary human interactions, but is increasingly rare in our disinterested, vain world. I tip my hat to you, sir. About an hour and a half later, Stetson calls from the shop: Job complete. The van's safely dropped off and locked up. I pay with my card via the phone, never having the opportunity to shake Stetson's hand and thank him. That's as smooth a tow job as I can hope for, so here's to a five-star review making up for it. It was a front tire on his 1990 Bronco and he almost lost control. He was really rattled but was extremely lucky that one of the drivers from Torch was behind him.
