I rarely leave reviews, but this experience needs to be shared. My parent was a tenant with BRT Properties for three years and was always in good standing. They recently passed away, our family notified BRT promptly and gave ample notice. Despite this, they attempting to keep the security deposit and even trying to charge a lease-breaking fee; in a situation where the lease ended because the main tenant died. It's a company that shows no compassion and mainly greed, they are charging me a 2-month fee while they are likely re-renting the apartment. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution others before renting from BRT Properties. They are questionable. read more

The property management is unresponsive and unprofessional. Maintenance requests either take far too long to be addressed or are ignored altogether. When repairs are finally made, they often feel rushed or incomplete, leading to the same issues happening again. Communication is another major problem. It's difficult to get clear answers, and follow-ups are rarely handled properly. Residents are often left in the dark about important updates or delays. In addition, the general upkeep of the building has declined. Common areas are not maintained to an acceptable standard, and it doesn't feel like management takes pride in the property. For the amount of rent being charged, the level of service provided is simply unacceptable. I would not recommend living here unless significant improvements are made. read more

BRT is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They do not care about their tenants. They have fees for everything. They will tow your car for not being in your assigned spot. But have you move your car to another spot when it's convenient for them. I have never met such a money hungry disgusting inhumane company in my life. They are not family friendly or lenient in any way shape or form. read more

I'll write a review for the Brookview Apartments in Danbury. My experience with management has been limited, but so far I have no complaint. Given the area the noise from people outside who are rude and thoughtless blasting their crappy music gets to be a bit much. I had to file a complaint with the liquor control authority over one of three bars that blast their music outside so loud you can hear it in your apartment. I find the majority of issues come from the area and some of the crappy tenants they have. They will park illegally in the handicap and visitor parking places as they are LAZY and THOUGHTLESS, one little troll that lives here and is not on her boyfriends lease parks in the visitors spots all the time and nothing happens, same with the idiots parking in the handicap spots. The latest issue are douche bag tenants that tie up the machines in the laundry rooms, they just leave their shit unattended in the machines for hours or the whole day so others can't use them, and touch their clothing and they get very nasty - well get your god damn laundry out of the machines as you are not the only one who uses them! If I had my way I'd wait one hour and deem it abandoned and throw their laundry down the garbage shoot. Some do not put the green rolling carts back, or they act to bypass the buildings physical security, as they are either too stupid or lazy to request additional swipe tags from the office. The rent is fair and reasonable, place is clean, no real issues or problems. The area it's self pretty much sucks and at night not too safe ( 2 blocks away a kid was stabbed to death ) Grounds are maintained in general and kept clean. Most of the people living here are working class folks and pretty nice. Ummm the so called " Secured Parking Garage " is not secured as one of the gates has been broken for over a year ( two motorcycles stolen from the garage ) good thing it was not my bike that was stolen my lawyers would crawl all over them and consume their internal organs lol For the most part I'll give Brookview and BRT four stars, they are not perfect but they are o.k. Just seems some of the thoughtless, inconsiderate, rude, tenants need a kick in the ass is all. People starting to really dislike them when they act like this.... read more

I have been living in a BRT Management property for just over 6 years. In this time, I have had mostly positive experiences with this Management company until recently. While they have been fair in terms of rent increases through the years (despite the largest two rent increases in the past two years), they, up to this point, honored the original terms of my move in agreement to allow me to have a parking spot included in the garage across the street in Brookview Commons as part of my package deal. Throwing in the parking spot was what enticed me to take the apartment over another property. Much to my surprise, with little notice, they sent me an e-mail three days prior to my lease renewal informing me I no longer could park in the garage and told me I would have to vacate as soon as possible and make other arrangements for parking. With such short notice, I felt backed into a corner with no legal recourse to challenge them and they took full advantage of their position. After trying to speak to the property manager on several occasions to ask why this decision was made and why they were reneging on an agreement, I was sent an e-mail stating that it was what they termed "Internal requirements" that was responsible for this decision. "Internal requirements"? They then, a few weeks later, tried to throw me a half eaten bone and said I could have my spot back for $65 per month. This was an answer right out of the corporate, B.S, excuse playbook to give when you have no legitimate reason for reneging on an agreement (Yes it wasn't in writing but it was, what was once termed a "hand shake" agreement in another time). A responsible, customer focused company would have lived up to the terms I moved in under and grandfathered my spot until I moved out. The terms of the lease should only change with the next tenant. I cannot agree more with the review below. The office was a revolving door of employees for the 2 years I lived there, so it's clear that management sucks. The on-site repair team was actually very kind and prompt and professional, so their on-site team is great - which is why they get 1 star. But when it came to moving out, I tried to speak with the owner of the company directly with concerns about the real estate agent barging in (WITH HER OWN KEY) to show my apartment whenever she wanted.... she replied that she would "charge me for any delay I caused in getting a new renter" despite the fact that I was still living in the apartment. So, I would suggest renting literally anywhere else. Oh and we showed up to turn in my key 30 mins after they opened, but the door was locked. A girl showed up 45 mins later in slippers asking who I was and what I needed. Please go literally anywhere else to rent. This place is garbage. read more

I don't write bad reviews. In fact I've never written a review before ever. But I've been living in BRT properties for a year and a half and I will be leaving at the end of my current lease. While the apartments have both been lovely and I've had no real issues with the properties themselves, trying to correspond with the company itself is like pulling teeth. I'm slightly convinced it's run by a bunch of people fumbling around in the dark. I've never gotten a call back from a call I've made where I left a message for "on call agents" or "on call maintenance" or even a call back when they explicitly tell me they are going to call back. I end up just going in because I never get anywhere on the phone or via email. And even when I go in, I never see anyone, I just talk with the secretary who makes calls upstairs and they call her back and tell her what to tell me, and she's even had to call them again before since they didn't call HER back even. The apartments were great but the people that work for the company itself just seem to be brainless. They called us wondering why we hadn't turned in the keys a month before the lease was up! I would've stayed and transferred to another apartment at the end of this lease but when I tried to correspond with them about apartments that would be opening up, it was just more teeth pulling and "they'll call you" and "call this number" and "I'm not sure who you were talking to" and "I'll make a note in your file" and "I don't see anything on your file". It sounds like small stuff but it's happened so much it's just super annoying. read more

TERRIBLE customer service and properties. Nothing but excuses on their end and the properties are unsafe. I lived there and had neighbors that were screaming racist and sexist comments, throwing furniture off balconies, people shinning flashlights into my apt, almost hit by a car and the laundry almost blew up downstairs. Also rude customer service in maintenance. They never keep on lawn or any appearances. read more
