This place is DEFINITELY worth the visit.. It's a small restaurant that had a great friendly family vibe to it.. The staff are super friendly and attentive.. We ordered the three item combo with two tacos and enchilada. It comes with beans and rice.. The rice was off the hook delicious.. The Indian Fry Bread!! Get it, Trust Me.. The chips and salsa were good.. The salsa is on the hotter side, but worth the burn as it has good flavor to back up the heat. Thank You, definitely will be back... read more

This was about the only place open in Wislow when we rolle d in about 7PM. We shared a fajita plate. It was medocre at best. It seemed a bit stale, maybe because it was late. The place is a bit of a dump, I suppose being on RT 66 its supposed to be. read more

We stumbled upon this gem in Winslow, AZ. They serve up Mexican/Navajo food. Very unique and DELICIOUS. Try the fry bread with beef! Most of the diners were Navajo and Hopi Elders including an elderly Native War Veteran. I will never forget the kind service, the home made food and the genuine warmth of this place which also serves as a meeting spot for the Community. If you ever find yourself "Standing on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona", GO HERE! read more

The food was definitely not good! The taco was greasy on the outside and the meat was like a very thin piece of McDonald's patty stuck in the taco. No flavor to it or the beans. Staff were friendly and attentive. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all. read more

We had the combination plates and the variety was excellent. We especially loved the tamales, the filling and sauce were delicious. The enchilada was also excellent. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. read more

On a road trip we stopped by a little hole in the wall, greasy spoon atmosphere, Mom and Pop authentic Mexican restaurant. The building is very old and small. Just a handful of tables available so be ready for close encounters. . The food was SO good!!!! The Navajo taco served on fry bread, which had a slight taste of sweetness and complemented the savory taco meat. The staff was very friendly and an accommodating to all visitors. It's worth driving off I-40 for a lovely meal. I'd go back for sure!!! read more

We arrived with a few recommendations. The restaurant is tiny, busy. We were told to sit anywhere. We chose a table by the front window. All seats are torn. So old. The windows sill next to us was filthy, never cleaned, curtain tops have 2 inches of dirt. Never washed. The entrance door is half painted. The entire room, old, dirty. Food was spilled on floor, wait staff just walked over it until one of them kicked it landing under our table! My husband used the restroom, said it wasn't very clean. His taco & enchilada was ok, my ham& cheese sandwich was minimal. Jalapeño chips served, no other flavor. With the restaurant being so dirty, how could the kitchen be clean? They need a food & health inspection. read more

We asked the clerk in one of the gift shops in Winslow for a restaurant recommendation for dinner. Ari suggested The Brown Mug Cafe. It's located a short couple of blocks east of the Standin' on the Corner park. The place was packed by locals on a Saturday night at 6 PM. A table had just opened - it was quickly cleared and we were seated within a minute of arriving. Drink orders were taken and we perused the menu that was surprisingly varied and long. We both opted for Mexican food. I'm here to tell you that we both agreed that it was some of the best Mexican food we've had anywhere. And the sopapillas (included with the meal) were light and fresh and a great way to end the experience. The restaurant has been there a while. It's not fancy, seats are well-worn and there are probably a dozen or so tables total. The servers worked hard, were attentive and friendly. Our meal cost $40 + tip - not bad for 2 meals, a beer and a glass of wine. Without the recommendation, we probably would have never stopped there. We knew when we walked in and saw the place packed with locals that we were in for a good meal. And we were not disappointed. I'm not sure when we will pass through Winslow again. But when/if we do, we will definitely visit The Brown Mug Cafe. read more

Food is very unique and outstanding, a mix of Mexican and Navajo. I highly recommend the beef and chicken tacos. Restrooms are grungy and the restaurant is a bit old and run down. BUT WHO CARES. If you want fantastic food at a fair price make the stop at the Brown Mug Cafe. Service is great and the food comes out quickly! read more

Came across this gem on our drive from Payson to Winslow AZ. Small family owned cafe that appears to be there for years off Route 66. We shared the Navajo Taco as it was big with ground beef, beans and both red & green chile sauce. It isn't hot chile, but has a great flavor. Fry bread was soft & tender. So Good!! Servers were very friendly and answered all our menu questions. Ate our food as we were famished so no food pictures. I have menu pictures and establishment pictures. If you done Standing on the Corner in Winslow Az I highly recommend you stop in. read more

First time here and we're not from the area. We're passing through and my mom heard of this place from a relative. We sat ourselves in the early morning at 9 am. It was busy at the time on Thursday morning. We only saw one waitress. We placed our orders quickly! We got our drinks first. Our meal came soon. So overall, quick breakfast service. Pretty good. We got our food orders with the sopaipilla bread, which is a normal thing I noticed when I looked at the other guests' tables. However, the waitress forgot our chips and salsa, which is a thing they're know for, according to my relative. Again, it's our first time here . Waitress forgot my knife so I had to cut my huervo Rancheros with my fork. I didn't want to ask since it seemed she was pretty busy taking orders, clearing the tables and cleaning up. Again. I only saw one waitress and it was getting busier when we were almost done with our food. Afterwards, we stopped across the street to the nice La Posada hotel to see the art museum. Just make sure to ask the hotel staff where the museum is at. read more

Very tasty food. Excellent quality and reasonable. Great service would definitely come back.

The Brown Mug is a local favorite and the food is wonderful. The service is friendly and helpful. The salsa is spicy and delicious. The rice was the best Mexican rice I have ever eaten. We were very happy with our experience here. The inside is nothing fancy, but the charm is that I felt like a local person, and I am sad I don't have a local eatery in my community where families chat and gather and it feels like home. read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! We are foodies from California and wanted to try the Navajo taco since we read great reviews. Oh my!!!! It did not disappoint!!! We also loved their sopapillas!!! We highly recommend trying them! We even got it to go and ate it the Airbnb and it was still absolutely amazing!!!! Ashley took care of us over the phone and brought it out to us when we drove up. She was friendly, professional, helpful and patient as we decided our orders. We will definitely be back when driving back through. read more

We didn't eat anything but had a large coffee. The coffee was fresh and good. They have some different creams and sweetners. However, I drink mine black and hot. The service was outstanding. Our server, Ashley, was attentive and friendly. She told us the Brown Mug Cafe was opened in 1958 and is still owned by the granddaughter. The diner is old but clean and well kept. We enjoyed our time visiting the cafe. Thank you, Brown Mug and Ashley, for making it a memorable time. So if you stop by Winslow, Arizona, to stand on the corner by the flatbed Ford, then be sure to stop by the Brown Mug Cafe, I'm sure you will enjoy it. read more

We came to Winslow so we could stand on the corner *Eagles music starts playing*. Then we took a short walk to find a tasty breakfast spot before hitting the road for the petrified forest. I grew up in Winslow for 14 years and I had never come here to eat until this visit. It's super small, which I expected based off the outside appearance but they have seating in the back so don't be shocked to find no seats up front but ask about the back. Our waitress was super nice and checked up on us frequently. She also provided great feedback on dishes we were torn between and really helped us decide what was the best for us! I'm sad I never went here until now but I'll be sure to come back again!! read more

My husband and I ate here five years ago, and there have been zero changes-same signs, great food, and efficient friendly service, plus not a single painting on the walls has changed. It is still filled with locals at lunchtime who appreciate reasonably priced, large, tasty meals. The only addition is curbside pickup, so onstreet parking in front is reserved. My three fish tacos came with large chunks of crispy fried fish and loaded with lettuce and crema. Check all three daily specials boards because each one listed different specials. My husband enjoyed the tacos plus cheese enchilada special along with a couple of Pacificas. Nothing fancy, just what you expect from a local favorite. read more

The Brown Mug Cafe in Winslow is a throwback to days of old. This roadside Cafe sprang up like so many others on the side of Hwy66. Good food, served quickly with reasonable prices, and few frills. With the modern Interstate siphoning most traffic away from downtown Winslow, the Brown Mug has survived by becoming a locals favorite. We first ate here because it sits across the street from LA Posada. We've come back because the food is good, the prices are reasonable and the service quick and friendly. The Brown Mug is high on my list of reasons to get off the Interstate and slow down. read more

What a gem in Winslow! We shared the green combination platter and it was packed with flavor. The sopapillas were perfectly light and fluffy--some of the best I've had. The service was excellent, and the cozy, local atmosphere made it even better. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting or passing through Winslow. read more

Had the tacos, the combo plate, and the green enchilada. All were quite tasty. Loved the salsa, unfortunately couldn't take it home with me because we have several days of traveling ahead. Each meal also comes with sopapillas and honey. Place was packed by 12:20, but they have a back room too. read more

We came here on a Sunday morning and they were open, which may not always be the case. We ordered the special, 2 chille rellenos, rice and beans, and 2 sopapillas. Excellent! I asked for a veg option for a sauce instead of red or green chili. I got the enchilada sauce. Very very good. Fresh chilies, big and flavorful. The sopapillas took me back to my childhood. Wife had a side beef taco. Fresh made tortilla, lightly fried. Was excellent. The service was fast, super friendly. Very clean. The cafe has been going strong for 60 years, the building has been there for 100+ years. Got to know they doing something right. Thank you for making this a special day for us! Brought me back to 1975. read more

Rude beyond belief. I am a 28-year Winslow resident. This place must be living on a reputation of 20 years ago. We have recently visited twice and have been distinctly unimpressed by the "who are you, we wish you weren't here" vibe. Today, a Wednesday, we and two out-of-town friends arrived at 11:30. A young couple was waiting inside the door and obviously had been for some time. With the four of us, the tiny entry was uncomfortably cramped. Another guy arrived behind us and was forced to stand outside. There were numerous empty tables, at least two waitresses and at least two women behind the counter. For at least five minutes, no one so much as acknowledged the existence of any of us, even the young couple. Not a word. Not the slightest pleasantry. It became quite unbelievable. We and the guy on the sidewalk finally just turned and left. Never again. There are much better places in Winslow than this little living-on-reputation hole in the wall. Hopefully the young couple has been seated by the time I post this. read more

I'll begin with yum! I had the red chili burrito, which I couldn't even finish. The Carne Asada Fries were good & just the right kind of fries. They had a Tuesday special, buy 1 get 1 free plate. I left the best for last, the Sopapillas were so mmmmmm-mmm delicious & I eat mine plain!! Felicia served us and even though it was super busy, she was very attentive & kind. This is a family restaurant and it's laid back and comfortable like having dinner with a much nicer family. Great ambiance for a relaxing evening. read more

Food was very good. But air conditioning vents need to be cleaned. seen cobwebs on the ceiling, around the doors and wall. customer service to be step up. Waitress did not attend to us quickly. waiting for 15 mins for service and wanted too long for food to come to our table. no silverware was given ... no refills on drinks as well. I recommendation for customer service training needed. Waitresses need to smile more. And when customers walk in the door. Say " hello welcome in"...... read more

I've heard a lot about this little restaurant in Winslow. Asked my friend if it was any good and of course being a local there she said it was. So I joined her for dinner. Atmosphere is definitely not the most appealing place in the world and the place was pretty cramped. The staff was friendly though. Prices are really good, portions are small, but the food was tasty. I got the red chili enchiladas with rice and beans. I did not realize that red chili only pertained to the sauce and not the fillng. It was a cheese enchilada with red sauce. The tacos look pretty good, I might try that next time. I would probably stop by again if I was in the area though. read more

Brown mug has been a decades-long staple in Winslow for good reason. I've been eating here since I was a kid and the food is consistently delicious. This is now my daughter's favorite place in town, she highly recommends the shredded beef enchiladas, Christmas style. Stop by for amazing food and be sure to sit where Harrison ford did! read more

I asked for an order to go cause I was in a hurry. I ordered sunny side up eggs and they gave them to me scrambled, the presentation of the food was terrible, and there was a long hair stuck in between my food that wasn't even mine because it was thin and light colored. As far as the place goes, it looked very dirty and cramped. I still tried the food cause I was very hungry, but never again. Food was bland, soggy, and overall awful. read more

This is a great local gem, it's been owned by the same family since the beginning. Last night I had the cheese enchiladas and they were perfect on a cold night. This is my second time ordering take out here. I'm in Winslow for my sons wrestling tournament. Last year we used the order ahead feature and they brought everything out to the car. Today I went inside to order and the service was just as wonderful as I remember it. I've been thinking of the sopapillas ever since I had them last year. The food was so delicious after a long drive in and the prices are so reasonable, I've spent more at lunch trucks for less than mediocre food in smaller portions. I'm eating dinner here again tomorrow. read more

We arrived really late at night and were searching for something to eat in the area. It was hard to navigate Winslow at night - super dark - yet we stumbled upon this little cafe. I am so thankful we found such a great spot for Mexican food! The perfect "late night" meal after a long day of driving. The Navajo Taco was incredible! Also as well as the other tacos, enchiladas and chips and salsa etc. We ordered the "large" chips and salsa - it could have feed a soccer team! If you are looking for amazing authentic Mexican cuisine, this is the spot! Some of the local shops said it was their favorite. I must say it was probably the best I've had. It is the perfect small town diner where the locals patronize. Food was excellent and so was the service!
