I am very happy and proud to be a student at Jersey College, and I am truly grateful for the support, guidance, and encouragement I have been receiving throughout my nursing education.
One of the things I appreciate most about Jersey College is the way students are treated as responsible adults. The faculty and administration do not micromanage you or dictate exactly how you must learn. Instead, they place trust in their students and give us the independence to find the study methods that work best for us. To me, that trust is incredibly meaningful. When educators believe in their students and respect their ability to take responsibility for their own education, it encourages us to rise to those expectations.
But that trust should never be mistaken for a lack of academic rigor or accountability.
Jersey College expects a great deal from its students--effort, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to learning. The school also takes academic quality seriously. Assessments are carefully reviewed using statistical analysis, including comparison of test performance across campuses, so that potentially problematic questions can be identified and evaluated when student performance patterns warrant further review. I appreciate knowing that academic standards are taken seriously while the fairness and quality of the evaluation process are also carefully considered.
At the same time, students are not expected to navigate nursing school alone.
Whether you need assistance understanding class material, have a concern you would like to discuss, or simply need some guidance or a friendly word of advice, the faculty, administration, and school team make themselves readily available. When you reach out, they make an effort to meet with you, listen to what you have to say, understand your concerns, and offer the best guidance they can.
I recently had the opportunity to personally experience this level of support, and it reminded me how much it means when someone in education is willing to go the extra mile for a student.
Dr. Caudill, Dean of Nursing in JC, describes this philosophy beautifully:
"My goal as Dean of Nursing is to ensure that every student who enters our nursing programs has the support they need to achieve their goals."
She also speaks from her own experience as a nursing student:
Having been a nursing student myself through the LPN, RN-to-BSN, MSN, and PhD levels, I understand firsthand that the journey can be challenging. Those challenges often arise during some of the most difficult times in our lives. However, I truly believe they help us grow stronger, build resilience, and shape us into the best nurses we can become."
Those words reflect something I have personally been feeling that during my time at Jersey College. Nursing school is demanding, and there are moments when students need more than a textbook or lecture. Sometimes we need someone willing to listen, offer perspective, provide encouragement, or simply remind us that asking for support is part of learning and growing.
Jersey College provides that support, but it is a partnership. The school will guide you, teach you, listen to you, and help you find the resources you need--but you must do your part. You must study, work diligently, act with integrity, take responsibility for your education, and remain willing to learn. Much like a wise parent, they give you room to grow independently while still expecting you to rise to the standards of the profession you are preparing to enter.
I would like to sincerely thank the entire Jersey College team -- the administration, faculty, as well as the wonderful professors for the tremendous amount of work they put into educating, supporting, and guiding their students on the path toward becoming great nurses.
To those who share their knowledge, experience, wisdom, and encouragement with us: Your Efforts Matter!!! Your support is deeply appreciated by students who are willing to open their eyes and ears, continue learning, and recognize that even the most determined among us sometimes need guidance.
I am very proud to be a Jersey College student, grateful for the people who are helping me along this journey and looking forward to becoming a great nurse with the knowledge, guidance, and support of the educators who are helping shape me into one.
And a little word of support for future nursing students:
"Per aspera ad astra" -- through hardships to the stars! Jersey College can provide the guidance, knowledge, and support, but the determination to walk that road and reach those stars ultimately remains in your hands!
