She answered all of my questions as well as going over my finished tax return with much detail. I brought all of the paperwork needed and we went over our tax return, line by line. What was also very impressive, after she entered my information into their tax program, we were able to complete the process right there and was told that our return would be submitted electronically that day. As our yearly tax refund is an important part of our yearly budgeting, to do this process so quickly was very unexpected and helpful. This is supposed to be the stage where they make a good first impression, and unfortunately that didn't happen. They processed everything and gave me a rundown of how much I owe and how much I'll get back, so I signed off and went on with my life. My issue is with the refund payment. It turns out they forgot to include a form, so instead of getting a refund payment, now I owe CA FTB. I sent them multiple emails and voicemails, but no reply... nothing.... ~2 months later, I sent one last angry email and now they finally replied back. They said they'd take care of it, which is great and I specifically asked them to give me some confirmation that this was done... again waiting... this time I'm not waiting longer than 2 days. And of course, no update....nothing. I gave up and decided to just do it myself. I contacted FTB and submitted the missing form. It took less than an hour and 80% of the time was spent in the queue. I will be going back to TurboTax; it's cheaper and I'm familiar with it.

But... They flaked about 15 minutes before the scheduled time, then 5 min later I got a friendly text reminder not to miss the appointment, which was a nice touch. I had to laugh at that, at least. The Dude's time is far more valuable than yours. You will find out minutes before your "scheduled" appt when Siri drops you a line.

As someone who opts to invest my time and dollars into small business partnerships, I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with the communication from the TMB team. This tax season, I needed to find an accountant that would be able to guide me thru the challenges of filing for my small business and personal taxes. I found this company thru yelp's "quote" feature. Things seemed legit, so I was comfortable moving forward with scheduling an appointment. After coming in for an appointment, I had some follow up work that I needed to do on my end. However, I received an invoice and a contract for services. No worries there. I went ahead and paid the invoice due of roughly $400+. In short, In good faith, I paid for service that was not rendered. Around April- May , communication stopped (due to Covid-19 I assume). I attempted to reach out and found that I was unable to reach anyone thru the phone numbers listed on the website or via email. I got a little worried because I thought that the business closed down and that concerned me. I had given the owner a copy of my W2 during our initial meeting and have paid for services, and have heard nothing. No follow up. I somehow found a new number on their LinkedIn page and gave that a try and was able to get a hold of someone. I was given a new email address to use. We were scheduled to follow up that Monday as the team could only work on a limited schedule due to childcare issues. Definitely understand that, no problem. That Monday meeting never happened. Now, I've forgot what was the best number to get a hold or someone and was back at square one. Fast forward, I was able to work with another team member who would help me along the way. During this process, I was asked to submit a completed schedule c form which was challenging for me because I had never done it before. I reached out to schedule some one on one time with the team which never ended up happening. I followed up with the team member and was told that they were expecting my call and never heard for me. Ok. So clearly we have communication issues. I get it. I feel like I am having to manage communication and I'm not an employee with this organization. I reached out with a reference to the contract is had signed requesting a refund. I was immediately told I would be given a refund for my $400+ with complete disregard to the W2 that I had given the team. Apparently there is no recollection of that. This was on 6/16/20. As of today , 7/20/20, I have emailed three times asking for follow up. I have called that number listed on their website : 510-239-5021. No response. No update. No refund. I am discouraged. I am upset. I work hard to grow my income and be in a healthy place financially only to be ripped off by a business that I wanted to support and grow a long-term partnership. What is interesting to me is that I reached out to a different tax organization, and when discussing what is my part in completing the schedule c form I was informed that I would need to categorize the data and the team will ensure the information is filled in the correct area. Makes sense to me. I'm paying for the expertise of someone that knows taxes on a deeper level than I do. This is solely my experience with this org. I do not know what anyone else's experience is and quite frankly I don't care.
