And I needed a massive, half-dead limb removed from my neighbor's tree that covering and threatening half my deck. I'll bet it weighed in at a ton. He explained how he would do it, gave me what I considered a reasonable price, and we set up a time. With other companies I've had bent gutters, cracked sidewalks, fence and deck boards. Not with Julio. He and his crew were careful and meticulous. Everything was either handed down or lowered by rope. It was cut up, hauled through the alley, and chipped at the curb. He showed me before and after pictures of the roof. And when they left, my deck and sidewalks were cleaner than when they got here. After debating about what was dead and what needed pruning we adopted the method of attaching orange plastic ribbons around the dead trees to be removed and pink plastic ribbons around trees we needed advice on. We knew we also wanted the underbrush removed from this entire area. After talking to a variety of friends and doing an internet search we decided to contact Mario's Tree Care. The phone call was easy as could be and we scheduled an appointment for an estimator to come out. After scheduling the estimator we received an email confirmation that Steve would be our contact person for this job. On the scheduled day Steve arrived and spent a fair amount of time walking through our request. We had no idea how much the job was going to cost so we divided the job into three sections and asked for three separate estimates. It was a pleasure to work with Steve and we appreciated his knowledge and professional advice. As we proceeded on the estimate we decided that since he was considering it more land clearing than individual tree removal we had him write it as one estimate instead of three. The day after Steve came out we received the written estimate via email. It was quite reasonable so we signed the contract so we could get added to the busy work schedule of Mario's Tree Care. Steve had indicated it would probably be several weeks based on the job and no urgent need. His estimate was very accurate. Before they came out Steve called us to confirm our available days. The day they originally wanted to start on was one of the dates we had indicated we would be unavailable. Not a problem, they shifted the work to start on Thursday instead of Wednesday. On the day they were scheduled they came out early afternoon instead of first thing in the morning because of unusually cold temperatures. Mario was very efficient and made wise judgements while performing the work. He knew healthy trees from ones that were diseased. All the members of his crew worked well together and knew exactly what to do to accomplish the clean up task. On the final day Mario and his wife Lorena came out on their own to grind the stumps and rake the entire area. A quick wind and storm in our neighborhood broke off a large section of a backyard tree, and unfortunately it's too large for us to handle alone without a chainsaw. My husband decided to call Tino's for an estimate. The plan was to take care of this broken limb and move ahead with trimming our other trees. I spent only 2 minutes with him upon our initial greeting. His delivery was terrible. Rather than share with me what he'd observed and the reasoning for his recommendation, he made the choice to speak down to me when I shared we didn't call to remove the full tree. I discontinued the conversation and let him know I didn't appreciate being spoken to in that tone. Since Tino seems to speak more professionally to my husband instead of a woman, my husband let him know he'd lost our business. I doubt he cares and traveled on to the next person, but guaranteed I'll never recommend his company to another friend, neighbor or family member.

He was more than an hour late because he had fallen asleep. We made another date to have the work done. He later texted and said he would be at the house at 7:30 in the morning, three weeks before the actual date. He only takes cash or check. Thankfully, I was home and able to drive to the location to pay him on that day. I recently reached out to him again to do vine removal. We set an appointment time and date for an estimate/quote and then did not show up for the appointment. I texted him the next day to inquire about the missed date. He informed me that he had to work hard on other jobs the day he was supposed to be at my house because of the pending rain. He then rescheduled the estimate appointment, only to once again show up late. He quoted me a price, I confirmed he still only takes cash and checks, which is correct, but now if I paid with a check, I would be charged a 6% fee. He set a date to do the work two days later, and I have not seen or heard from him since. I have no complaints about the work he does. The problem is getting him to be more organized with appointments and show up when expected.
