Steve Roberts and his tennis staff are high quality coaches. Was searching around for awhile at various tennis facilities for my 6yr old to start tennis. Most facilities is more geared towards recreational and just playing around. I really liked Brookside because it is more focused on tennis fundamentals on strokes. Our son first joined a local club for lessons and played JTT for over a year at the age of 8. While he seemed to be able to hit and would occasionally win some matches, we know his fundamentals were lacking in every aspect. We've thus searched high and low for a place that provides systematic, well-structured instruction and has major focus on fundamentals. We learned about Brookside Tennis Training from a tennis friend who spoke highly of their solid training and were instantly amazed by how their philosophy aligns with ours and knew that we are at the right place. The team led by Steve utilizes Great Base Tennis Education curriculum. The dedication to every detail of the fundamentals is truly something I'd never seen out there, as most places would jump to tactics that mainly aim for quick win once kids can hit. Here the pros put in every bit of effort to help the kids build up and cement whatever it needs to become a real player down the road. Programs are rigorously tailored for different levels. In clinics there are 2-3 coaches working with divided groups, so every kid gets sufficient amount of attention and practice. While the clinics can heavily focus on technique-based drills, coaches do an excellent job incorporating fun points play to keep kids engaged and challenged. Our son started off in Development but soon moved to Challenger starting this May. Less than half year in we are seeing him not only making significant progress in his technique but also becoming disciplined and motivated on and off the court. He used to like "playing" tennis, now he is enthusiastic and loving this sport full-heartedly. This is a great club with the best tennis classes in the area. Steve is one of the better tennis instructors in the Bay Area. All his students have excellent technique; some of whom have top rankings. I am 40 years old and just won a 4.0 tournament in Monterey this weekend due to his help on my one handed backhand. The BEST Tennis Clinic ever! I have two kids who are 7 and 9 years old and joined Brookside clinic this March. I just regret not finding this place earlier. They were in Lifetime Tennis training for group training several months ago, but soon I realized the coaches there were very sloppy and not responsible at all. Brookside is a clinic that kids just love! The three coaches, Steve, Jordon and Brenton, are very responsive, reliable and experienced on coaching different ages and levels of kids with full of enthusiasm. I can tell my kids made great progress in such a short time(one and a half months so far)-- building solid technical foundation and enjoy playing tennis more and more. My sons have private lesson with Steve at the same time when we start. Actually, he is already their third private coach. Compare to the other two, he is just the one we are looking for! He is very determined on the techniques, but always nice to kids. There is no yelling, but he receives all the respect. It's very important because if the kids totally respect or even admire their coach, they follow the instructions very well. I have to stop here, even though I have more to share. I've been training at Brookside for 5 years now and I have to say that this is the best tennis training around. I've been to many other clinics and academies as a kid, but this is by far the best option that exist in the Bay Area for 3 reasons: 1. Quality. Not only is Coach Steve is a tremendous player and his ability to hit and coach top juniors is excellent, his focus is on the quality of practice. He is very good at teaching proper technique and creates a great environment to be successful. He constructs the clinics into ball feeds, hitting drills and situation/match play. He is one of the few coaches that will actually hit with you. Coach Steve helped me achieve my dream of playing college tennis. 2. Knowledge. Coach Steve has so much experience in tennis. He has played at the highest levels and knows what it takes to get there. One of the biggest thing for me is to be able to trust my coach when he tells me what to do. I have 100% trust in Steve because he knows what he's talking about. 3. Chemistry. Given all the great players and coaches around, what set this place apart is that Coach Steve can relate to all his players. Every coach around is going to tell you pretty much the same basic tennis instructions, but what is important is how the information is presented. Coach Steve is passionate in all of his students and he cares for their success. He builds a relationship of trust and loyalty that is unique in teaching tennis and leads to success. I've seen many coaches, camps, and other programs out there, but I have not seen one in the south bay area that is as good as the program Steve and his team run. Over the past 2.5 years at his academy, Steve's relentless focus on the basics has helped immensely in building a strong foundation in my son's technique. Steve is a great coach who focuses on each individual student and really tries to help them get better. The facilities are very nice as well. My son has been going to the Brookside tennis club for more than a year. We tried quite a few local places and this club is the best when it comes to a very competent tennis coaching program. Steve, the lead coach who runs the program is focused on technique, regular practice sessions, fitness, pre-tournament plan, taking notes and a relentless follow through on each area. Our 11 year old son has been taking tennis lessons (group clinics and private) at Brookside for about 4 months now. Prior to this, we tried a few other places, but Brookside has been the best fit for our son. Both the instructors, Steve and Jordan are very professional and are really passionate about teaching tennis. Their primary focus is technique and they break down the techniques in a manner that the kids understand really well. The class sizes are small and the coaches watch the kids personally during the clinics and correct their strokes. The kids are made to take notes at the end of the class, so they remember what to improve on. Sometimes Jordan text us notes as well. This is something I have not seen in any other school. The environment seems to be really fun yet competitive. I've talked with the other parents as well and they all seem very happy with this club.
