Sanjay was extremely flexible in booking my lessons since I couldn't have lessons at the same time every day.

I do a 180 turn and go back up the road, checking out a low, long swinging white metal gate, similar to what you see at border crossings, with a sign saying Cupertino Hills Swim & Racquet Club. Except no guard house at the border crossing gate. I go up the hill and over the crest, and reach Nirvana -a beautiful Olympic size swimming pool, with a clubhouse, and six tennis courts, complete with landscaping. The lot is filled with late model Mercedes, Lexus, Acuras, Porsches, and BMWs -my 1998 Honda Civic sedan with 178k miles is the oldest in the lot, and is mistaken for the Club ball boys's car. I expect valet parking at a place like this! No Rolls Royce Phantoms like you see at the royal box at Wimbledon! We've got 12 people but only 1 courts. Turns out that the other 5 tennis courts were occupied as early as 7am, by club members with the keys to the gate. We start play on court 6, the worst of the courts, due to half in and half out of the shade -balls disappear in the shadows. A player opens up a can of penn tennis balls, and one ball is flat. You must have bought that at Costco! 15 minutes into the match, a net player pounds an overhead into the ground, and the ball goes over the end fence into the alley. 30 minutes later, another overhead, this time the balls goes over the alley and lands in the private property of the residences next door. A dog chases it, and holds it proudly in its mouth, saliva covering the ball. That's yours buddy! 90 minutes later, I leave the court, and recognize the 4 players on the next court, as being long time, no see, buddies from Sunnyvale Tennis Club in the 1980s! Old tennis geezers don't die - they go to Cupertino Hills Tennis Club, on their way to heaven!

We mostly go for the pool and socials. There's also tennis with a tennis pro and 6 courts that look nice. The club is capped at 250 memberships, so it never seems crowded. Behind the club is the Deep Cliff Golf Course with spectacular views of the hills.

It was too good to last during the pandemic. Eviction moratorium? $300 supplemental weekly…read moreunemployment benefits? Stimulus checks? $250 per month per child Federal tax credit payouts? No, free weekday morning tennis at Cuesta Tennis Center while the clubhouse was closed. We've been playing here since July 2020. 3/18/2020 clubhouse closed. 7/18/2020 clubhouse open weekends 8am-2pm. 1/2/2021 clubhouse open 4-930pm weekdays and 8am-5pm weekends. 3/2/2021 clubhouse open 2-930 weekdays and 8am-5pm weekends. Playing tennis was free on weekday mornings until now. Came to play tennis 6/29/2021 to be greeted by sign saying "Starting June 28 9am weekday openings for pro shop. All players are required to sign in with an MVT Mindbody account. " On the next court are four players, each of them required to fill out the Mindbody account. Residents play for free on a walk on court. Two players are nonresidents, and have to pay $5 each for an hour of play. This is $5 per player, not per court , to play 9am to 10am. At 10am, the two nonresidents have to stop play and report to the clubhouse and each pay another $5 for a second hour of walk on court, as reservations are for 1 hour increments. If you have 3 nonresidents, you would pay the maximum $15 per hour for a walk on reservation. The nonresident player made arrangements to play 9am to 1030am, paying $7.50. Only he's returns to the clubhouse at 10:35am, and is billed $5 for play from 10am to 11am. Shortly before 9am, I report to the clubhouse, and fill out a MVT Mindbody account. I take a picture of the QR code, and fill out the on line application right on my phone. Mandatory inclusion of name, address. Boxes for filling out cell phone, e-mail, DOB, credit card number, expiration date. At least they didn't ask for social security number! The other three nonresident players balk at filling out the application and leave. Nonresidents can still play for free at Cuesta before 9am or 12noon to 2pm on weekdays. Two of our players balked at playing at 730am -needed their beauty rest! Want to play during prime time, weekdays after 5pm, or weekends? Walk on reservations difficult, as all 12 courts in use. There is a $5 per court light fee. $11 per hour per court for Mountain View resident reservation, and $15 per hour per court for nonresident reservation. Kinks in the system linking Mindbody accounts and the reservation system. No advance court reservations at this time. Next week we are playing at Sunnyvale Tennis Center, with courts at $8 per hour before 4pm, if the person making the reservation is a Sunnyvale resident. A 1.5 hour reservation would be $12, compared to $22.50 at Cuesta. Not that it would matter to these retired guys, as they all earn far too much to qualify for stimulus checks!

I've been consistently attending the adult classes program, it's very well run, under the leadership of Todd. Coaches there are super nice and they treat individuals with great respect and give lots of good practical tips. It's the best 1.5 hour I spent every week.
