I visited with a friend recently and found it to be truly a hidden gem but a very large gem. There is ample parking, multiple entrances, and so many paths, trails, and areas to walk and truly enjoy nature and the beauty of trees, birds, flowers, turtles, and so much more for all to see. There are hidden areas such as a large tree you can walk under and hide and many newer and older bridges, art installations, and interesting landscape. Great place to hang out, relax, read, think, and enjoy life alone or with others. It was not very crowded on a weekend afternoon, so that's a great bonus. There's a butterfly exhibit (that costs $8 per person) and an interior visitors center with restrooms, gift shop, nonlending library, and so much more! Can't wait to return! read more

I absolutely do not recommend booking an event at this location unless you are absolutely positively sure that you will have zero need to cancel or change your event. The staff will not work with you and will not make any exceptions to the contract. We had a wedding scheduled for June 2023. I paid the deposit of $1,500 in July of 2022. In September of 2023, a series of family circumstances led us to needing to cancel our event. We were told that we could recoup our deposit if we planned any event within the year date of our original wedding date. However, what we learned was that the cost of hosting even a small two-hour event would be the same cost (or more) of the deposit we would be getting back--thus rendering the hosting of an event that we don't need to be pointless. We originally thought we would be OK if we hosted a birthday or wedding shower at the venue but not for the price brackets offered. Clearly, events are structured and priced this way for this purpose of not working in favor of the event host. We've pleaded with the staff over months to try to get at least a portion of our deposit back and they have been cold and unwilling to work with us. It doesn't matter that we are residents of Montgomery County or gave them almost ten months notice. While I understand the contract is a contract, I've never known a wedding vendor to be this disagreeable. Typically when the focus is on having a positive customer experience, staff will be open to finding a solution that works -- even despite what the contract states. We were not idiots; we know how a contract works but we are human beings and things happen to human beings that can change plans -- even with the best of intentions. Brookside Gardens event management staff simply do not care. Typically wedding venues will allow you to transfer your deposit to another individual should that date get booked or will work to provide reasonable exceptions for unforseeable circumstances. Brookside will not do that. To lose a total of $1,500 for nothing is a hard loss for us. I urge you to proceed with extreme caution or avoid booking with Brookside for your next event. They are a beautiful park but if ANYTHING goes wrong at your event, there will be zero willingess for anyone to work with you. So much for a wonderful guest experience. read more

We went to Brookside Gardens for the first time once the lockdowns started. We chose the Gardens because it has enough open space for my child to run without being too close to others. The grounds are well maintained and the flora and fauna were beautiful. I underestimated the size of the park, and was pleasantly surprised about how long we were able to enjoy the grounds. All I can say is this place is AMAZING. . I was here for the Christmas lights display and l must say it was very impressive. . From what I understand this is a park that would be under warm weather conditions a beautiful place to view. I really must come here during the spring time to enjoy all the flowers and all. They really took some time at this Christmas lights thing and it's the perfect place to take the kids, and adults will enjoy it as well. I did see a few couples. I don't have any little ones but it still was an amazing thing to see for us. They started at 5:30pm . Upon arrival while you're still in your vehicle you pay the $30.00 per van/car. If you purchase advance tickets it's cash only and $25.00 per car. Also Monday -Thursday is $25.00 per car/Van so bring your party and everyone can enjoy the displays. You enter thru the visitor center which they keep very warm. They also have a restroom to get you started before your journey. Now this is a walk thru experience. They have what looked like a gingerbread house. The little ones found it to be enjoyable. Now it's so much to see and so many pictures to take. It was very dark and alot to cover so if you're going out l suggest you dress warmly. I was freezing my buns off. I had on leather gloves and l was taking pictures through my iPad because it takes the best picture's especially at night. Sorry l didn't get any with my cell phone . It's best to have a camera but my mini iPad did very well. They also have a greenhouse inside where you can see mini displays of trains and all. I must say it was very warm inside because my fingers was at the point of numbness from the cold weather and not being able to take pictures with my gloves on Smh! I just happen to pick the coldest day of all it was 29 degrees outside and l really should have checked the weather forecast first but it is what it is. Nevertheless we still enjoyed it. After going through the park and taking pictures they do have hot chocolate inside the visitor center and seating to warm you up. You can also listen to the band. They have a different one according to the day you select. You can find out which group will be performing by going to their website. Anyway enjoy yourself its so much different than seeing lights from the vehicle. I was very impressed with it all and it was definitely worth it! read more

Aunt Joan came THRUUUUU in the clutch. I had downtime before meeting college buddies in DC for happy hour, and I wanted to do something close by...preferably out in nature. Aunt Joan volunteers here from time to time and suggested this place. I mean...just marvelous. And to my knowledge, I think it's the only free botanical garden in the entire state of Maryland. Roses, tulips, gazebos, a greenhouse/conservatory, a Japanese garden, a meditation mount, a LABYRINTH (y'all know I love to walk these), a perennial garden, a beautiful children's garden, a winter garden...and just so much more that I have probably failed to mention. We weren't during peak bloom in the rose garden and was astounded by the collection they have! They have multiple varieties and colors. It was magical! The park also has other gardens: aquatic, azealea, yew. Love the pagoda over the lake with tons of turtles around! There's signs that state lot to fed the animals there, but I think these turtles say different! We also ventured into the butterfly exhibit which was small and filled with tons of different butterflies & moths. The gardens are just a portion of what the park can offer and it's definitely the highlight. All the plants are labeled which is AWESOME. When they're not, it's one of my big pet peeves. There's gift shops and bathrooms at each of their visitor's centers. Wish they would have vending machines or shop would sell snacks & water. Good for families, couples, etc. Tips: parking lots near nature center and both visitor's centers. Master gardener available for questions during specific hours in library. :) read more

I'm on board with the camp that says "Wait, this is in Wheaton?" But there it is, a sprawling curated garden area, with an indoor greenhouse and several lakes. Now, in DC we are a bit spoiled for these things, what with the National Arboretum and the Botanic Gardens downtown, among other things. Nonetheless, this is a nice facility in its own right. The place has high fences, and cars drive over and annoying grate as they enter, purportedly to keep deer out. Since deer are basically pests in this area, it makes sense. The place also bans bringing in food and picnicking, which again is annoying but serves a purpose. Substantial construction is ongoing on a portion of the grounds, but there was a substantial quiet untouched area as of this writing. There is plenty of space to walk around and some nice little relaxing areas. It was pleasant to visit on the unseasonably warm fall day I was in, and doubtless it is even better in the spring. read more

Brookside Gardens is a must-see if you're in the immediate area. They've got an indoor botanical garden, outdoor walking trails and gardens, nature center and much more. Most of what they offer is free (exceptions include holiday festival of lights, etc.). Parking gets a little tight during peak season, but there are two overflow lots and I've never had an issue finding a spot. Great place to spend a lazy afternoon with your date. :) read more

Due to my serious fomo, I decided to check tripadvisor for the top attractions in Montgomery County (lived here for 15 years) and Brookside Gardens popped up. Decided to visit with my mother that weekend. You don't have to be a master gardener to appreciate Brookside Gardens and all it has to offer. I especially loved the Azalea Garden and the Gude Garden. It's nice to go to places like these to appreciate nature and take your mind off the busyness of life. I can't wait to come back during different seasons to see what other flowers may be blooming. read more

People usually visit Brookside Gardens for the nature and exploration portion of the gardens. Which is beautiful in its own right, but I've had the pleasure of visiting a few times for various formal events, weddings and receptions on the patio and the inside of the venue. Beautifully maintained and warmly welcoming, Brookside Gardens is the perfect place to consider to rent for your next event. The exquisitely manicured grounds alone, is the wow factor you're looking for to impress your guest. Such vibrant colors in the garden, the festive outdoor patio lighting cascading over the tables adds the perfect lighting for pictures, and plenty of space inside to transform the main event space into any type of theme your little heart desires. Add this all up and include plenty of parking for your guests and you have an impressive space for your next event. Additionally, we were allowed to have alcoholic beverages, as well as live music was also welcomed on the premises. Granted, none of the events I attended were mine, so I don't know the cost to rent the venue, but I do know that everyone enjoyed the space at each of the occasions. I have always been interested in learning about how maple syrup is made. Even though this programming is for kids (I didn't realize this) I learned a bit and really enjoyed myself. Turns out one gallon of maple syrup requires 40 gallons of sap. I tried their homemade syrup at the end and it was mighty good. read more

Such a pretty place. During the week the butterfly garden currently closes at 1:00 pm but that is fine because it is was 90 degrees and the greenhouse they say is 10 degrees warmer. It was hot in there. Its smaller than most butterfly places i have been to, but i got it on groupon with a coupon so 2 people for $5. Aka worth it. The actual botanical garden area is really nice too with amazing places for photo ops. There are wildlife and insects and flowers. Its nice. There was a type of long bird in the lake and i saw a turtle and some other things. It was cute and would be very worth it even without the butterfly exhibit because its free and large. You can spend a whole afternoon walking around. Bring water. I think i saw one bubbler area. read more

We took my mother there three days ago and we all loved it. A lot is in bloom already and everything is beautifully arranged. Very colorful....the gardens rely on many volunteers and they were all very friendly. The gift shop is small, but it has a nice selection and the prices were reasonable. Parking is very difficult right now because one of the lots is blocked off during the renovations. However, we only had to wait a few minutes for a space and that was during a peak time (early afternoon on a Saturday). read more

I love this garden. It's so beautiful. It's nice to just walk around and take in nature. I really enjoyed the butterfly sanctuary they had summer 2019. The butterflies land on you and just fly around freely. Unfortunately because of covid we didn't have it this summer. I still enjoy going there for walks. It's clean and groomed. You might catch a wedding or a wedding photographer as you see the happy couples take pictures. This place inspires you to have a photo session and to relax. Beautiful and serene gardens next to Wheaton Regional Park. Plenty of walking trails. Most are wheel chair accessible. Children's garden, gazebo and pond with beautiful landscapes. Great location for pictures. No pets or food allowed here. Great for families. read more
