I have wonderful memories of this place. What not to love?! Countless of BBQ with my family and friends. My littles would love coming here and love going on the trains or carousel or the picnics we would have when I was a sahm. So many nice comminuty events held here etc. The parks been through a lot of renovations. One section has really clean bathrooms and there's an exercise stations which is geared for most ages. There's a part here that will connect you to Brookside Gardens. The park is very well maintained. read more

Super nice trails, especially if you have a doggie companion! Ample parking, plenty of paved and unpaved trails, lots to sniff and bonus dog park at the end. Lots of trash cans as well to keep things tidy. If I were a kid, I'd love the playground here. They have lots of rentable picnic shelters too that seem great for summer parties and barbecues! They even have a place to rope up your piñata, which I thought was so nice for all the birthdays and celebrations at the park. read more

I grew up coming to Wheaton Regional Park and now I have the pleasure of bringing my daughter here to enjoy. It has been a long time since I had visited, but last week I came twice. The train is better than I remember. We took a ride for $4 dollars. The carousel was also $4 albeit a tad too short in length. The playground area is absolutely amazing. They have a ton of new toys and areas to play. My daughter loved the big blue hill, slides, swings, and dinosaur. Bathrooms were clean and there were ample places to throw away rubbish. Additionally, I found parking easy and plentiful. This is a wonderful little park. read more

Although I spend most of my time in the dog park portion of Wheaton Regional Park, I have had nothing but good experiences while exploring other parts of the park. Aside from the dining/picnic areas, I think this park is perfect for getting away and having some alone time (if you are into those sorts of things). During most parts of the day, the park is not super crowded. In the rare occaisions that it is "crowded" (e.g., bird watching groups), there are plenty of "hidden" trails that you can explore. Overall, the park is pretty clean. I think this is due not only to park services, but also to the folks who actually respect the park and hang on to their trash until they can properly dispose of it. read more

Haven't been back to this park for a while - usually combine with a trip to H Mart in the shopping center nearby. In the past had always entered via Shorefield Rd which is close to the campgrounds and playgrounds. This time went via Arcola Ave towards the sports arena. There's a lot more parking there and it's a better approach if you are more interested in hiking the various short trails. It's also just a short walk to Brookside Gardens from there. We did a couple of loops on the well marked trails through the forest and then also visited Brookside Gardens which is beautiful and much less crowded on a weekday. Very nice park that is also accessible by metro although a bit of a walk - about a mile from either the Wheaton or Glenmont station on the Red Line. read more

This is an amazing and well taken care of public free park. I traveled over 60 miles for this place for a birthday party at the one of pavilions. I did not travel very far into the park and only used the pavilion and nearby playground but I was very impressed. It was packed with ample parking. My 18 month old kids loved this giant hill they could climb that other kids were on top of. I would definitely travel the far distance again for this park! read more

Very clean park. Has a huge playground and multiple baseball fields. They have a new skills park for biking which has blue and green runs. The green runs are pretty Onewheel friendly. They also have some trails past the lake which are a lot of fun. It is basically on hill and has an inner and outer loop. These trails attach to the paint branch trail as well so can get to other trails as well from here. read more

Local gem, with amply variety- picnic areas, playgrounds, walking paths, biking trails- and best part- no cost to enter the park! We spent a good 2hrs with our toddler in the picnic & playground area-exploring the different equipment- some sections are for older kids, with climbing contraptions, some are for younger with animal seesaws, and then there's a workout section for those motivated! This is another local "gem" that I feel I had forgotten about until lately. I've made it my mission to explore different parks for walking/jogging so I came here a few weeks ago. Although I've been here many times over the years, I somehow didn't remember how big this park was. Like if you're not paying attention, one could easily get lost. It's very scenic so that made my outing more enjoyable. I liked that it wasn't too crowded - at least not that time of the day. I was there around 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning. What an amazing park, If you have kids this park is incredible. Plenty of place to run around and very unique playground to climb, jump and slide all around. The slides are so cool, very long and all tunnels, and they aren't your typical slides, when you see them it's like seeing a roller coaster, you point at them and even is adults start saying to our inner selves, I've gotta try that. Then the random blue climbing hill, not a climbing wall, but a hill that is surprisingly steep and you can slide down. If you want to go faster grab a piece of cardboard and go done like you are sledding. They do a great job of having a park for smaller kids too, 4 and under and have a good size sand box, bathroom facilities are nearby (smart, very smart). Plus they just have a bunch of swings and cool obstacles to climb where you can make your own America ninja warrior course. It's a great place and this is just the playground. Plenty of shelters to rent and trees to take cover in. Open areas to kick the ball around or throw and catch and run. And to top it all of the park has the famous mini-train open everyday starting on May and running till October. And this isn't a mini train that goes in a cricle, this thing is a 20 minute ride with a train session as well and tickets are $2 a person. The boys love it. And we love it too, it's one of the great finds of Montgomery County, MD when it comes to having kids. Cheap and cheerful and a beautiful setting to spend time as family. They have a carousel as well, yes it goes in circles, hmmm a carousel that doesn't go in circles, now we are on to something. Okay, finally one more thing. Wheaton Regional Park is very close to Brookside Gardens, in fact it is so close there is a trail over by the small kids playground that connects the too. There are no signs that tell you that, but check it out, it's less than a 5 minute walk and it's awesome. So the park and the gardens it's a double whammy in a good way, you can't lose. read more

Despite the train and carousel being closed due to COVID, we had a great time on a late September afternoon. There is a small playground that includes a large sand pit with built-in diggers. The crown jewel of the park however is the "Big kid's playground". There are two massively long/tall slides and a couple smaller ones. There is also a huge "mountain" to climb as well. Across from the playground there is an exercise circuit. There are many hiking areas that I look forward to checking out in the future. We did see some deer up close to the playground. This was a very surprising find in a surprising place, so, despite the 35 minute drive, we will return in the future! read more

Wheaton Regional Park may be the best park in the Washington, D.C. area. It's in Wheaton, Maryland and is massive with plenty of parking throughout the park. They have a carousel, a train, an ice skating area, and a playground with a sandpit and the longest slides I've ever seen. Dare I say this park is a hidden gem. It can't be just because I wasn't hip. And another thing, it's huge! I don't know how I missed out for so long. I love urban parks and this is one of the best. There's so much movement nearby, including the Capital Beltway but you won't feel that anxious energy amongst the lush trees and along the water. Or even or horseback, however you get down. I enjoyed the numerous different trails. They were well shaded and unpaved. As a historian I loved the African American homestead site. I love public history before the people as much as I enjoy a good public park and in a region with plenty to offer this is one of the best. read more

I just visited this surprise in MOCO. Tucked away behind a VERY congested & wonderfully diverse neighborhood in a huge fun filled park. This park has everything all in one location. You can walk the entire park but it is spread out so it may be best to drive from one parking location to another. The park offers a variety of activities for all ages both indoors and outdoors. I enjoy the dog park. Want to play indoor or outdoor tennis, game on! There are nature trails; baseball fields, a dog park, a sports complex not to mention an indoor ice rink. Folks were playing hockey over the weekend. They have an actual mini train ride that you can take a scenic tour around the park. It's probably closed now due to covid but check around the summer. The botanical gardens are both indoors and out. This might be a nice spot for newlyweds wedding photo's. They have playgrounds with tons of kids playing at any given time (no one is social distancing), a nature center and picnic areas. During the summer months, you have to get there early to reserve a picnic table. I don't know of any other park that offers so much all in one area. Plan on spending a full day, and enjoy the many activities that Wheaton Regional Park has to offer. read more

Accessible playground with swings, slides and other climbing activities. There is a separate toddler playground and restrooms. There are plenty of walking/biking trails that seemed to be easy and for everyone. The carousel and train cost extra and are nice. No cost to enter the park. Equipment is a little older than some playgrounds but in good shape. Picnic tables and shelters are around and the park is shady but not over the playground. Nice place if you are in the vicinity it not something I would drive more than 15 minutes for. read more

Great place to bring your family and little ones. They have a train ride - a little boring compared to Cabin John and a nice carousel. They have tons of picnic areas and a nice playground for the kids. During the peak season, you can reserve the picnic shelters for a bbq or kids birthday parties online. Wheaton Regional is a nice park with lots of parking and several very nice amenities. There is a train that runs sunrise to sundown year round, a carousel (not sure of the hours), a dog park, several cookout spots with picnic tables, a couple of covered shelters, a huge playground and it is attached to the ever wonderful Brookside Gardens. The park offers several summer camp programs and is the site of the Annual Washington DC Metro Congenital Heart Walk. I am a fan. read more

Love this park! Not only do they have a carousel and train (two dollars per rider no matter the age), but they also have an enormous playground. There's a little kid playground next to the huge sandpit. They're also two different sets of swings. And there's plenty of stuff for the big kids, too! A pretty intense spiderweb as my son calls it. Lots of stuff to climb on and some of the longest slides I've ever seen! There's also an adult workout area. There seems to be some nice walking trails, although we haven't explored those yet. My favorite thing about this park and the main reason we keep coming back is that a large portion of it is extremely shaded, which is perfect for the hot summer days. The shady area includes the kitty playground, the sandboxes and one set of swings. read more

This is a good park for kids and one of the best in the area. Kids love this place and it has many things to do. There are plenty of play objects like slides, swings, "blue mountain" to climb, etc. on one side of the park. The other side has a train ride that is open during the Summer months. Tickets for the train ride are very nominal and the kids always insist on multiple rides every time they are here. Parking is ample too with easy to access parking spots. They park does get crowded with kids when the weather is nice, so be prepared to wait for things like swings and slides. Good local gem :) read more

The is a pretty big park if you dont know cuz i think.most people just gonto the front where the pavilions are as they can grill and have a picnic party there. Play ground is pretty decent and have pretty much all kids can use tonjave fun. Now if yoi walk deep inside alonelg the way there are so many gardens with exotic flower and plants and there are lots of things to see like a pond full of fish and turtles. At the end of the park there is a exotic green house full of rare and pretty plants surrounding by the butterfly museum which cost around $8 to enter. Over all this is a good place for hike,cook out, birthday parties, celebrations and wedding photos. read more

Wheaton Regional Park is one large park with 3 separate entrances and some very different vibes. First, off of Shorefield Road is the playground including picnic area, carousel, and mini-train. Second, a few blocks away off of Glenallen is the lovely Brookside Gardens (separate review); and, third, a few yards from that the Nature Center. Then, off of Arcola are the ball fields, ice skating rink, tennis courts and dog park. All of these parks are connected by paths and converge at the fishing lake in the middle (I think it's release fishing, not sure). There are also plenty of paths for a walk, jog or bike ride in the woods. The different areas offer classes for adults and children in crafting; ice skating; identifying bugs, identifying birds, etc., etc. It's an awesome park--many things are free, some have nominal charges (lessons, classes, etc.) and I actually like it better than the Cabin John Park in Bethesda. read more

I don't know how they could get away with some of the climbing contraptions, but I enjoyed... I mean, the kids I took to the park really enjoyed the climb. I went here with my wife yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by how great this park is. We were really impressed by how large it is- you can really get lost if you want. There are excellent trails, beautiful lakes and a really nice garden section. We don't have kids and stuck with the trails with our pup, but there were seemingly a million kids on the playground area. I wouldn't want to be on it myself, but those parents looked pretty happy. There's also a fenced in dog park we didn't have our dog run in, but it looked pretty standard. There's a much nicer dog park about 20 minutes west at Cabin John, but the trails at this place are awesome to bring a dog on. I'd probably still choose Cabin John over this recreation area, but this place is a really nice spot too. read more

Beautiful ballpark watching men's recreational baseball, the Ponce de Leon league! There are bleachers too but if you bring a folding chair, there's lots of shade by the trees! There's clean bathrooms in the indoor tennis shop near the white bubble. You can always cool off for a bit in there and watch t.v. There is also a bike trail too; you can also walk or jog around the park. I love that there are a lot of trees and in a good day, there's a nice breeze in the shade. read more

My family loves going to Wheaton Regional Park and now we live a lot closer since my daughter and son-in-law bought their first house just a few miles away. We can walk to it in about 20 minutes and avoid fast & bad traffic with my grandchildren. However I would not do this on a hot summer day! The sandpit area is a favorite spot for my grandson age 5 and my granddaughter age 3. We carry sand toys in the trunk just for this occasion. It is under an umbrella of trees so it's always available to play in even on a hot sunny day. There is a small slide/ climbing jungle Jim adjacent to it & several animals made of stone to climb around on. Behind the sandpit and also in the shade is a swing set with a giant plastic swing and 3 baby swings. There is a walking bridge that starts by the bathrooms and the drinking fountain & goes toward the sandpit & then over to the sunny side of the playground. It has connecting large jungle Jim's (balance beans), a long swing set for bigger kids, tall rope spiderweb climbing structures that connect by a bridge for the bigger kids and adventurous adults and 3 very high slides adults probably can't fit in easily. Both my grandchildren are excellent climbers and love it on this side of the park. It does get quite hot in the afternoon though! Below the slides there are monkey bars & and a concrete turf covered hill for sliding down. There's a large picnic shelter as well as benches and picnic tables throughout the park. Adjacent to the large parking lot & the bathroom facilities is a workout pad that's also in the sun during the hot time. This is one of the better parks in the Baltimore-Washington Area. I visited it once and saw the carousel in action pre-COVID but even in COVID days, it has nice hiking trails (most of them paved) and connects, as other reviews note, to Meadowlark Gardens. Lots to do and the park, overall, is well-tended. read more

Wheaton Regional park is unquestionably one of the best amenities in the eastern part of MoCo and makes Glenmont/Wheaton such a desirable place to live. Each side of the park has its own benefits (ice rink/dog park; train, picnic tables; brookside garden, nature center, lake) so you can't go wrong with whatever entrance you choose. For me, though, I Iove waking up early on a Saturday or Sunday morning and walking along the trials that start from the nature center. Always lots of other friendly dog owners, walkers, and joggers to enjoy the scenery with. Wheaton Regional is such a wonderful spot we are lucky to have it in our community. read more
