Now that I'm all settled I decided to try the Intro to Sewing class ($80: supplies included) here & I am SO glad I did!! Diana Rupp, the owner was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly and open! I showed up there with absolutely no knowledge of sewing or how to work a sewing machine. But if you come with interest and an excitement to learn, you'll enjoy it. She gave us hand outs with everything we needed to know, took us through all supplies for basic sewing, taught us the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread a sewing machine. I didn't even know there was a whole process even before beginning to use one?! Lol. She went at our pace, helped us each time we made a mistake, all while having a regular conversation. None of us ever felt left behind or stressed. I was beyond excited when the class was finished. I bought some supplies from her store and even Diana's sewing book (which I highly recommend if you're dedicated). I can't wait to practice on this new hobby and make it my own! They also have tons of other classes available if you want to learn other techniques. Already eyeing the next class I'll be taking: embroidery :)) Love love loved my experience!

She goes over threading step by step and gives you some great techniques and advice to take home with you so that you can practice. The classes are very small, so if you have questions, she's available. The two hours flew by. I left the class feeling very confident in what I learned (a little too confident, telling people I can take on those mofos on Project Runway!) I can't wait to take another class.

Dropped by for a sip and sew class on a Sunday evening. This place was relatively easy to find…read more Located on the 9th floor. The class was 2 hours long and overall a very fun learning experience to make a tote bag. Not easy imo, but you are taught in a way with demonstrations first prior to attempting to do it on your own, a few steps at a time. I thought the hardest parts were the beginning prior to actually sewing - putting the thread in the machine and setting it up. But I'm sure with experience it becomes second nature. You're given the basics of the machine from the buttons to the different parts and the pedal. Then comes the fun part of actually putting together the tote bag. From sewing the sides to sewing the handles, the instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful! Very delighted to have taken this class, and looking forward to taking more in the future. As someone forever petite (unfortunately), I spend so much time getting clothing altered. Would love to learn more about altering my own clothes.

I took the Sewing bootcamp 101 class with Emily as the lead instructor. It ran from 10AM-6PM with a…read more1 hour lunch break at 12:30, I spent $310. We received a run down on how the machine works, learned how to thread the machine and how to fill the bobbins. Then we made a denim tote bag. This was super easy and really fast. After lunch break is the 2nd project. If you don't have your fabric, the school can sell you fabric directly inside for $16 a yard. I bought my fabric elsewhere and brought it in. I honestly recommend doing this instead of buying it from them. Because you have to wash your fabric like how you wash your laundry regularly since it shrinks naturally. We picked our patterns and I made a skirt since a skirt is faster than pants. They recommended not to make pockets or else I'll run out of time. But I HAD to add pockets. Women's clothing have little or no pockets regularly. The instructors are extremely helpful and friendly. and they immediately notice if someone is struggling or stuck. This really impressed me. For example, when I was threading the bobbin, the spool of thread was running out. The teacher was immediately behind me with a brand new spool of the same color so I can swap it out when it was finished. That was a great eye for detail! Overall, highly recommend. Just bring in your own 3 yards of cotton fabric, already washed and dried, for the 2nd project!

A group of friends and I came here to take the scented candle workshop. It was one of their…read morebirthdays, and there was a birthday special that let the birthday person have the candle for free, as long as 3 more people were attending the class. We learned everything we needed to know as our instructor took us step by step through what we had to do to create our candles. It was a really great experience. There were a lot of different scents to choose from, and a good selection of candle jars to pick from! I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone interested in creating their own scented candle!

The Art Students League will always have a special place in my heart. I can't speak to how they are…read morecurrently but I attended from 2015-2019 and made many friends here, and it was a great environment to create, whether I was learning wood sculpture or refining my vision as a painter. Most of the instructors were wonderful, offering guidance when I asked and space when I needed it. It is very reasonably priced and remains a true NYC institution. The only instructor I would caution against is Pat Lipsky. I found her conceited and negative, even spiteful at times. If your aesthetics do not align with Immanuel Kant or Clement Greenberg, you may not feel welcome in her class. After she asked me to help set up her studio for a visiting curator, I left the class. From that point on, she refused to acknowledge me when we crossed paths. Still, the overall experience was deeply meaningful. I am grateful for the time I spent here and the ways it shaped my work and friendships.

You'd feel so lucky to be in New York, because you have CBA here. I have taken a few courses at the bindery throughout the years and they were all extremely worthy. You get top notch masters in the book art world as your instructors: Barbara Mauriello, Carolyn Chadwick... My personal favorite has always been Susan Mills. She's super friendly and patient. She has given me a lot of wonderful techniques that I'd never forget. For most classes, you will have the opportunities to use their huge collection of fabric and decorative paper. I stumbled upon CBA's classes through a friend's mention, started making books, and now I can't stop. Take a tour, and check out some fantastic work that they have on display regularly. I have such respect for Barbara and the art of letterpress. She is truly a master of her art--I loved how she would demonstrate the steps, but she would never do the steps for us. That's how you learn. I'm grateful to have met her. As a poet and visual artist I really appreciate what The Center does for the vital intersection of text and art! They host excellent events, classes, and exhibitions. It was an honor to be involved and I will always recommend this place to visitors and NYC residents alike.

Are you looking to bring professionalism to your podcasting or your broadcasting ambitions?…read more I recommend Manhattan neighborhood networks as you go to destination for hosting your event they have a lot of strict rules, but that just means that they take pride and keeping their studio and equipment very they want them to work a functionally and morally in terms of like the actual equipment they use it's decent for a TV show. I went to broadcast journalism for school and it's very on par with what you would get out of an elite school. The value that you get from here is you get to learn because they help you along the way with editing as well if that's what you choose to do but ultimately it's a great facility a great campus.

I now know that entire sector is rife with disorganization, bureaucracy, and nonsense rules. Re: Gregory W.'s main concern: I agree. Their requirements for maintaining certification are a bit much. They have serious administrative gaps, and it's not always easy to get accurate information. But it really is a great resource for people who live in Manhattan and would like access to the courses and equipment they offer. People are friendly and actually seem to care about what they are doing, which makes for a really lovely environment.
