Enjoyed the Friday outing to go and and check out the Dior exhibit which was just so mesmerizing, glamorous and beautiful. I've never really been into any form of art but there are some forms of art that I enjoy. Fashion is one of them and photography is another. Both of which I was able to see at the museum today. I loved how each section had an explanation of the the designer at that moment in time. Definitely a learning experience for me. The tickets are not cheap. If you're not a member, you need to purchase entrance tickets and exhibit tickets. Exhibit tickets alone are normally $25. You can opt to purchase a 6 month membership card for $39 and that's includes the entrance fee and exhibit which is already worth it. I also checked out the Obama portraits which was very short. Not much to look at but you also need to get a timed entry ticket for this exhibit which is included in the ticket price. The museum is pretty big. Definitely could not finish checking out the whole museum. The staff is very nice. 5 star service at the ticket counter. One of my friends had an accident and I was worried you couldn't refund the ticket and the staff said it's not a problem at all as long ad the ticket isn't scanned. read more

Among NYC museums I have been to, it is the smallest in terms of the building size. It has less exhibits on our day of visit , it may because the place recently just opened up after a year of closure due to Covid. I enjoyed the front of the building wherein we were able to hang out on its iconic steps. There is food truck selling quick and easy bites snacks as the inside cafe is closed. The exhibition scheduled for this season is not into my liking. We will come back for another visit if there is something that will interest us. A mask is required upon entry and entire time of stay inside the building. read more

I was really fascinated by what I saw in the museum, I stayed in the African exhibit but the artifacts I saw were amazing. I enjoyed the layout of the museum by putting the oldest artifacts first it drew me in to explore more. Having the more modern artifacts towards the back makes sense to me because we hear about them. Be careful not to get lost in this huge place. Great overall experience. read more

I visited this museum on one of their free First Saturdays - the first Saturday night of every month is free from 5pm to 11pm. The Brooklyn Museum is actually the second biggest museum in New York City, after the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Speaking of the Met, this museum is actually very similar and also features art from all over the world. You will see art from Ancient Egypt, Africa, Europe, and more. If you have already been to the Met, a visit here may feel redundant. The main difference is that this place is not as big, has a smaller variety of world art, and leans more heavily towards American artists. However, the Brooklyn Museum is still a great museum in its own right. read more

The museum entry was fast. They checked our vaccine card, but no one checked to see if we had tickets for the actual museum until we went to the special exhibit (but we had looked at plenty of other things before that time). I went there for the Obama portrait exhibit. They were nice enough to let my friend and I enter together although we had different ticket times. It was a wonderful exhibit with info available in English and Spanish. I don't like that you have to buy multiple tickets to multiple special exhibits. The times don't align so it makes it difficult to see different things in one day. I really wanted to see the another exhibit but I wasn't able to see it because of this system. It's a huge space and I enjoyed what I saw. Seeing the Dinner Party in person was an experience. I didn't spend a lot of time at this museum but I would definitely go back. read more

On a Sunday afternoon, I went to Brooklyn Botanic Garden. However, there weren't many flowers blooming. Hence, I decided to head to Brooklyn Museum since it was walking distance. I went on the New York Public Library cultural pass website. I was able to download a free pass and the admission desk clerk scanned the QR Code. I arrived at 2PM; it was a good turnout. My favorite paintings were portraits of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and George Washington. When I stood in front of the museum, I smiled when I saw the sign "YO." If you walk to the other side, it would read "OY." Well played, Brooklyn Museum. read more

PROS: This museum is the best in the area. Paintings, statues, furniture, glassware, etc all of history in all eras around the world. It has 5 floors of history and even modern art. People there are nice, you only need to pay at least $1 for admission (through the app) CONS: No parking at all near this place. you need to rely on street parking which there obviously is never available. They also close early, at 5:45pm when it should be 8pm OVERALL: 100% you need to come visit this place if you are in Brooklyn. If you appreciate history of any type this is the place to go read more

This location offered early voting during the recent Presidential election so I took advantage. It was the last Saturday prior to the deadline of early voting and the lines were essentially non existent as my brother described. Although the process of voting here was seamless, I encountered some difficulties when I requested a new ballot after making an error on the initial one I received. They took a long time to assist anyone who needed a new ballot due to the unorganized lines and overall work flow. There were several lines and only a couple of people helping to navigate them. Some of the ballot workers were unprofessional and casually ate pizza. I highly doubt that I would return here to participate in early voting. read more

I've spent so much time here throughout my childhood and as an adult. All the exhibits I've seen, the 1st Saturdays I've been too ( before it became to big), and the listening parties that I've enjoyed. I was recently here to vote in the 2020 Presidential election and it was pretty smooth. This place is a staple in the community. I like the fact that I can get up, walk up the block, and go to the museum and roam for one to two hours. The price tag of $16 is not my favorite, but I keep saying I'm just gonna become a member. It's $75 for the year and you can go whenever you want. Not a bad deal. read more

This place is a whole vibe. Great curation of histories and art. I was not bored wandering the rooms here. We stayed a good 3 hours easy. Very accessible (huge elevators). A great place to go and they have multiple exhibits. There is something for everyone. read more

This is such a hidden gem. We 'trekked' out from NYC to meet my friend who lives in Brooklyn. First we had to start by taking some picture with the "YO" outside and on the steps. She is actually a docent at this museum so she took us around the Picasso and Monet exhibits and gave us the inside scoop. We were also able to see some other exhibits of African fashion and more. You could spend hours looking at everything. Every exhibit here is inclusive, promotes conversation and more. It gives you a feeling of belonging and togetherness here. There are 5 floors to the museum and it not as huge as the MET in NYC so you can do a lot of it. It is Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are right there as well if you have extra time. I always like the gift shop of museums but I couldn't find anything here I wanted (though there was a cool Brooklyn Museum sweatshirt I liked, but I resisted!). I know I hadn't been to this museum in way too many years, but I do encourage others to come out and check it out. You will not be sorry. read more

Loved it, the museum makes itself distinctive in its personality and it really shows. It has such a different feeling than the other museums in New York and is well worth visiting. Their exhibits are diverse, inclusive, and clearly at the forefront of representation, conversation and activism. There's a boldness and fearlessness that can be felt in the selection of the contemporary art, which contrasts so strikingly with the traditional yet compelling sections of their museum. There's 5 floors, with rotating exhibits on the upper and lower floors, while permanent collections are in between and in various sections. I especially loved their visible storage area on the 5th floor, quite a unique way to display their vast collection that makes you feel like you're in the shoes of the curator. Highly recommended, if you go for a special exhibit, depending on your viewing speed you should perhaps block out a few hours to wander - and even with that amount of time, it wasn't quite enough to see the whole museum. I would say it would take a good half a day at least to fully enjoy the museum if you are up for it. Prospect Park is right next to it, making it a pleasant walk afterwards if you aren't tired. read more

This museum is impressive. They have an international showcase of art, contemporary, decorative, photography, rotation of exhibits and monthly events. General admission is based on donation and special exhibits request for additional fees. This museum requires time to get through, which I didn't have. The collections however are insightful, integrative, and interesting. I visited during the Pablo-matic and Africa fashion installations. I learned that I'm not a fan of Picasso. read more

This is such a great museum! Super big, with tons of arts and artifacts from many different eras. It's also pay what you wish for NYC residents, so I loved that. We started at the top floor and made our way down. Didn't explore all the floors since we were there for a few hours and got tired. There's a cool open area on the 3rd floor called the Beaux-Arts Court which is a beautiful place to relax after walking around for a while. read more

Was there for David' Bowie Is exhibition. Miss that guy. Gone too soon. His memory lives on here. Place was easy to find with the subway nearby. The gates were not full and we collected out ticket easily. The building was very nicely remodeled and had nice exhibits. Very spacious and airy feeling. Bright lights and fully carpeted. Look up their website for the latest exhibits and book online. The neighborhood around the museum look safe with traffic and people walking. There a library nearby with lots of school children and adults around. There's also a monument in the center of a traffic area. Cross the road for a better view. read more

Excellent museum. I always like looking around here especially when they let you pay whatever you choose to pay. The Brooklyn Museum has lots of classic art and modern exhibits as well. It's bigger than it looks. There's special exhibits that charge more that are optional. According to many websites the admission here is free. It technically can be true within reasonable guidelines. The admission to the general parts of the museum are listed as several prices for adults and children, but you can pay whatever. It costs more if you're going to see one of the special exhibits. The main floor has a cafe at the front. On the other side is the entrance to the exhibits. The first floor has some of the more modern stuff. On the second floor there's classic paintings. There's always some areas and even whole floors that are closed off because of changing exhibits and things like that. If you go on a weekend it has some different admissions. It gets pretty busy so give yourself enough time to look through it. They have a pay parking lot but in front of the entrance is an MTA station. read more

The museum over the years has certainly made some physical modern renovations which is just awesome and beautiful. We went there to view the Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion exhibit which was simply fantastic. It was put together very very artistically which the photos of this review will reflect. The intersection between Crown Heights and Prospect Heights is one of my favorites in the whole county of Kings, and the access to cultural institutions like the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden is mainly why. When I learned that these were once all subdivisions of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences in the late 1800's, it makes a lot of sense why they're all in such close proximity to each other, and why there exists a great diaspora of creatives and academics alike, rippling out from the centrifuge this area in the northeast corner of Prospect Park. Over the past couple of decades I've visited for various artworks, like the large scale KAWS sculptures that greet you at the door, or the always present "Dinner Party" that is a permanent exhibit featuring feminist art. This one I've returned to at different points over the years, and I still gain a new perspective and learn something new each time. I would love to visit soon for the Christian Dior exhibit as well as to see the Obama portraits by Kehinde Wiley up close. I've been there for calm and quiet afternoons wandering the halls of the museum and also more rambunctious parties like first Saturdays where one of my favorite DJ's played and people kicked off their shoes to dance in the main atrium for hours. They're doing a great job with safety precautions, requiring proof of vaccination to enter and masks worn while inside the museum. Timed entry for popular exhibits is also implemented to allow for proper spacing. Check their calendar to see what visiting artists they're featuring next, and visit often. Time well spent. read more

My boyfriend and I went to the Brooklyn Museum to check out the new KAWS exhibit they had going on. My boyfriend was very familiar with the artist, while I wasn't, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the exhibit! It was awesome to see all the creations and artwork the artist had created. From paintings, to photographs, to sculptures, I hadn't realized what an impact Kaws had had in the world. I had two aspects of the exhibit that really stood out to me. The first one was a room in the museum that had videos of all the large sculptures Kaws designed that were placed in different parts of the world. In addition to seeing his designs come to real life, they also had aerial views and a video effect that caused you to turn in a constant circular motion that made it feel like I was actually there. The second aspect of the exhibit I really liked were seeing his adaptations of the MTV music award and a vinyl he created for Travis Scott. At the end of the exhibit was a gift shop uniquely tied to the exhibit. I'm glad we went early, because the gift shop had a rule where each person was only allowed to buy an item once. Some of the items that they had a limited quantity of were already sold out, but luckily we were able to grab some postcards, a pin, and a puzzle for the next date night! I honestly never really enjoy museums, but this exhibit is worth going to while it's still going on! read more

The Brooklyn Museum Kaws What A Party Entry was seemless as I was directed to to the 5th floor for the exhibit. It was a bit confusing after exiting the elevator but after 2 lefts and a right I found it. Once your ticket is scanned you can not reenter the Kaws exhibit so make sure you get water or use the bathroom beforehand. The layout of the exhibit was great and took the enthusiasts through Kaws graffiti, kimpsons, evolution of companion, and his mark on social commentary and life. The exhibit was colorful and entertaining. The art enthusiasts can do a Kaws scavenger hunt through a text. This experience is a great way to learn the history of several of the art pieces. Make sure to request the qr code to participate if you are interested. The Kaws Shop had several items that were sold out in the online store. So if you are interested in grabbing a momento make sure to carefully pick out the items. One thing of note, the museum offers a vitual map through a app and no longer gives you the pamphlet. I had terrible signal and low wifi connection so the app became useless when trying to look up exhibits or directions. Several times I felt aimless trying to find my place from point a to b. read more

A couple of things to keep in mind. The parking lot is not cheap. If you do park there, you can enter the museum thru some doors back there although it was not quite apparent to us and a couple that we encountered in the lot. There is a posted price list but the young lady who received us told us those were suggestions and we could pay what we wanted. The Egyptian items are the best part of the museum IMHO. The old Brooklyn homes and items aren't particularly impressive, at least to me. I am a big fan of art work especially paintings and they don't have a big collection on display. It's mostly portraits. The grounds are beautiful. read more

Aside from having a large permanent collection, the Brooklyn Museum generally has a phenomenal special exhibit calendar. I picked a year that had multiple special exhibits I wanted to see and got a membership, which was great because after two visits you break even, so any visits after that are free and two parking passes are included with a yearly membership. Also there are member only hours for special exhibits which is helpful because a lot of the special exhibits are very popular. read more

The museum is celebrating its 200th anniversary (that's not a typo) and there will be events & exhibitions, including a major group show of Brooklyn artists and a reinstallation of American art galleries. "The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition" will open on Oct. 4 - in the first floor Great Hall - and it will feature about 300 local artists. There will be a huge party on Oct. 5 - called Birthday Bash (similar to the museum's monthly First Saturdays program) - and it's possible that will be extended to three days. Some of the museum's galleries will start to close on Feb. 5 - on a rolling basis - in order to begin the reinstallation, which will have about 400 works of art. Later there will be a major renovation of the museum, funded by a $50 million gift from the City of NY which was received in 2021. This summer there will be a pilot program called Museum on Wheels, which will travel throughout parts of Brooklyn to deliver cultural programming. read more

The museum was great! I hadn't been since I was a kid. I went to the African fashion exhibit and it was really amazing. What I didn't like was the restaurant ,The Norm. Brooklyn has an art museum. Yo, it's a big one. Second only to the Met in size, it's 560,000 square feet with over 1.5 million pieces of art in its collection. It's also easy to get to from Manhattan. Just take the 2 or 3 to the Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum station. Once you pop out, you face a massive Beaux-Arts building with a contemporary entrance pavilion that provides an arresting visual contrast (photo: http://bit.ly/2SejswT). A huge lobby leads to five expansive floors of diverse art that took me and my friend Carlos over two hours to walk through. The Egyptian artifact collection is genuinely impressive with life-size statuary and well-preserved mummy casings (photo: http://bit.ly/2RIZLsc). The American Art collection is also extensive and quite a walk through our country's history starting with Gilbert Stuart's regal "Portrait of George Washington" (photo: http://bit.ly/2WHXIZ5). Judy Chicago's "The Dinner Party" is a unique installation celebrating 39 famous historical women through idiosyncratic place settings on a triangular dining table (photo: http://bit.ly/2DUUEBw). There's a nice exhibition of South Korean artist Kwang Young Chun's paper-wrapped sculptural compositions (photo: http://bit.ly/2Tvhjtq). The most impressive exhibition is currently "Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power", which celebrates the black experience from 1963 to 1983. The 150+ art pieces depict the unjust social conditions of the time in sometimes visceral fashion while celebrating key figures like Malcolm X (photo: http://bit.ly/2t3VCoN) and Angela Davis (photo: http://bit.ly/2Sr6w65). I have to admit I wasn't a fan of Rob Wynne's mirrored pieces plastered on the walls in random formations, a temporary exhibition called FLOAT (photo: http://bit.ly/2BmBOBt). The open Beaux-Arts court, however, is a wonderful architectural touch and provided a nice respite (photo: http://bit.ly/2DS8h47). Yo, Brooklyn has an art museum. RELATED - In the mood for a museum?
