A beautiful and iconic bridge. I love looking at and walking across it. Godzilla on the bridge is also a great memory, lol!
A must-do when you're in New York! Personally, I like to cross this bridge from the Brooklyn side and into the Manhattan side. Even if you're not a tourist, this is a great way to get cardio and soak in an iconic location of New York!
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is such a classic NYC experience, and it's completely worth doing! The views of the skyline and the river are absolutely beautiful the entire way across. It's an easy, flat walk, so you can just take your time, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the atmosphere. Plus, we bought some super cheap souvenirs from the vendors set up along the pedestrian path, which was a fun little bonus!
For today's itinerary, we had planned on waking up early to walk across the bridge for much lesser crowds.A very nice experience with such an amazing view of Manhattan and Brooklyn depending on where you are coming from.
Connecting Lower Manhattan with Brooklyn Heights, this iconic bridge is an architectural marvel known the world over. Completed in 1883, this suspension bridge with its visually familiar stone arches has been featured in many Hollywood blockbusters including: Spider-Man, The French Connection, Enchanted, Sex and the City, I Am Legend, Cloverfield, Godzilla, Deep Impact, Moonstruck, and Sophie's Choice. Fun fact: in order to prove its safety, P.T. Barnum once crossed the bridge with 21 elephants. Today, this bridge averages nearly 29K pedestrians and over 103K vehicles PER DAY. Although I've been in NYC a handful of times, I've only ever walked across this bridge once in my life. Started on the Manhattan side and made my way over to Brooklyn, before walking it back over to Manhattan. All in, took me about 20mins with multiple stops for photos. On both ends of the bridge, you'll find a variety of merchants hawking their goods. Although there is substantially more on the Manhattan side than Brooklyn. A lot of the vendors will carry the same goods, but the prices are not all made equal. I recommend walking a bit deeper in if you spot something you like to see if you can find it cheaper. You can always double back if you cannot find it again. The pedestrian promenade is pretty wide and accommodates a pretty heavy flow of foot traffic, with plenty of room to stop to take pictures. And speaking of pictures, you'll definitely be treated to gorgeous, unobstructed views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and the East River walking in either direction. There is also separate protected bicycle path which is great in preventing collisions between pedestrians and cyclists. Come here on a beautiful day like I did and enjoy the extra cardio while soaking up the view. It's definitely worth it and something you should do at least once when visiting NYC.
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge during the summer heat has to be brutal, but it is 100% worth it! The views you get of the city from the walkway are absolutely phenomenal. Just make sure you bring plenty of water with you to stay hydrated along the way. It was so cool to walk across such an iconic bridge that is famous around the world and featured in so many movies. Definitely a must do experience if you're visiting New York City!
The Hubs had an ankle issue but he was a trooper and walked across the bridge with us from DUMBO to Manhattan. It was more for the experience in itself and bragging rights of actually making it across the bridge. The views were stunning! The experience alone is what really makes this worthwhile. Why we never thought of doing this or heard of this on prior trips is funny. It's totally do-able and not so crowded where we felt pressured to walk faster. There's plenty of time to stop, look and take photos along the way. At the very end when we arrived in Manhattan, we rewarded ourselves with the goodies from the food trucks!
Do the walk whether it's from Brooklyn to Manhattan or Manhattan to Brooklyn. Not as far as you think. You can get some really good pictures as well as a lot of steps. Definitely a must especially if you're just doing interesting things in NYC and Brooklyn.
Definitely a historical & landmark and a must to do when you're in NY. This would be my second time walking onto the bridge but this time got cut short since pour down raining. It's a great way to get to Brooklyn by foot and what a view of both sides of the city. Also on a clearn day, you can actually see the Statue of Liberty from the middle of the bridge.
This is an iconic part of experiencing nyc. There are so many view points of the skyline, bridge, and Statue of Liberty. Not only can you experience nyc downtown, but then you can explore Brooklyn as well. We got breakfast in Chinatown and then spent an hour crossing the bridge, and then got lunch in Brooklyn and subwayed back to our manhattan hotel. Make sure you make this part of your nyc visit.
I would recommend all first timers to walk the park first, because you get a different view than being in the bridge. The park is a nice walk and you can even see the cute Van Leewans ice cream shop building in the background. To get to the actual bridge entrance, you have to take a 7 minute walk or so under the bridge and take steps up to it. There are signs leading you to it. Before the bridge, stop by Joe's coffee shop to get a cup of coffee, because the street is blocked off over there so that you can take pictures of the Manhattan bridge. Really nice rest stop. To get to the Brooklyn Bridge walkway from the Brooklyn side, head towards DUMBO and find the entrance at the intersection of Washington Street and Prospect Street, or near Cadman Plaza East/Tillary Street, using the stairs located under the bridge, which offer a great view of the Manhattan Bridge before you get to the main walkway. Eve try one should do this walk if you have never done so!
The walk over the bridge is absolutely worth crossing. The views of the city and skyline are amazing, and walking across its a true cool experience. Whether it's your first visit or not, it's one of those iconic spots that you should experience at least once. A definite must-do in NYC.
When visiting a massive geographical area like New York City comes to mind, I highly encourage and recommend checking out the iconic "Brooklyn Bridge". This is one of the most beloved (and oldest) bridges in the New York area as it was built way back in the 1870's and has been opened since 1883. Since then, millions upon millions of cars and pedestrians have crossed this historic bridge as it is as recognizable as many other landmarks in the city including the "Statue of Liberty", the "Empire State Building", and "Grand Central Station". I visited here (on the Manhattan side) during the afternoon on Thursday 10/9/2025 at around 2:45pm as I arrived via-Subway (from Times Square). Since there are numerous ways to arrive here (whether its by taxi cab, bicycle, rideshare, bus, or even car), this area (at least from the Lower Manhattan side) is quite a bit more calmer than the busier parts of the city. There are also plenty of signs directing you where to go as accessibility is quite simple once you eventually get to the bridge itself. During my walk, there were quite a few vendors along the way, many of which were not pushy or pressuring you to buy things. However, I did score some New York City magnets (for $1/ea) while keeping myself hydrated with a bottled water (for $2/ea). Some of the other vendors sell hats, handbags, keychains, and other tourist-related merchandise for purchase. Many of these vendors are cash only so keep that in mind. As for the bridge itself, it is roughly a 1-mile walk from one end to the other. It has a Gothic Revival look as this was modern construction at its finest during the late-19th century. As for usage and accessibility, the top deck is exclusively used for pedestrians to get to-from Brooklyn/Manhattan and vice-versa. The lower decks are dropped below (roughly 11 feet) and run parallel to the top deck for vehicles that travel eastbound or westbound. This bridge in general is an absolute masterpiece and work of art and every view is visually stunning. Here, you can see unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty and a vast majority of the New York City skyline. All in all, this is a must see if you have never been here before. Even for locals that commute/work in the neighboring boroughs, this bridge really gives New York that distinctive recognizable look that stands out from every other metropolitan area in America. Whether its a movie being filmed, a social media influencer, or a postcard, the "Brooklyn Bridge" is one of the top bridges in the country, let alone the world. My rating, a unanimous five stars.

Except for the walk areas being a bit narrow since it is split in half with the other half being for bikes, this was ther best free thing we did. To experience walking across a historic bridge and the view of Manhattan was amazing. Plenty of picture opportunities and it was just over a mile across. Must do if you are in NYC! read more

I was here at 6:30am for an engagement shoot. I had 2 locations in mind. I chose Brooklyn bridge. Waking up early was worth it. It wasn't crowded at all and barely any walkers or bikers. Def consider this place for pictures! I'm so excited to go through the pictures. read more

The Brooklyn Bridge is a gorgeous neo-Gothic style suspension bridge that connects Manhattan to Brooklyn. Completed in 1883, this is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States and one of the first steel-wire suspension bridges. The bridge was originally known as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and as the East River Bridge, but was officially named the Brooklyn Bridge in 1915. Over 4,000 pedestrians, 3,100 cyclists, and 123,000 cars cross the Brooklyn Bridge daily. There are plenty of great dining options on the Brooklyn side of the bridge as well as the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Since there is no toll to cross the bridge this a free attraction for tourists and locals. read more
Walk it. Run it. Bike it. Do it. It may be hard to run since there's a ton of traffic on the bridge, but I saw people doing it. Also, stay to the right because those bikers will yell at you to get out of the way. My friend and I walked over here from the 9/11 Memorial site and walked the entire length of this bridge on a Sunday night. It wasn't too crowded. At the end of the bridge, you have the option of going right or left, go left and take the stairs down. This will take you on the short route towards the Brooklyn Bridge Park to catch a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline, or to wait in line for the Shake Shack or Grimaldi's pizza. Walk the bridge; it's beautiful! read more
Great place to visit in New York city. I would suggest going to the dumbo Area for the best shot. However, walking on an actual bridge was an experience. The best month to come here is probably springtime or closer to summer because November was already cold. read more
Since we were in Chinatown, we were just walking around and my friend suggested us to check out the Brooklyn Bridge. It's been a decade since she's been. She describes it as a pedestrian bridge with great views of Brooklyn and the Hudson River. The bridge even goes above the highway. The way it is designed is breathtaking. I couldn't wait. Interesting enough, there is a path for walkers and bikers. Many walkers were inconsiderate towards the bikers, unfortunately. There were a lot of vendors on the bridge selling water and souvenirs. Hey, cannot hate them. There's plenty of photo opportunities on the bridge. I looooved it! I could just sit there and stare. The nature beauty of the water to the pretty skyline of the cities. Great walking workout and a scenic view to get your steps in. Brooklyn Bridge is definitely a great highlight of my trip and my top 3 of fave places visited in NYC on my traip. 166/2019 read more

So...... What can I say about Brooklyn Bridge? A bridge is a bridge. Seen one seen all? Ahhh not quite. Each time I'm approaching this bridge I feel excited. It's almost as if it's that first trip to NY many years ago and seeing this bridge, being on it for the first time. The excitement, the joy, pleasure. See, for many years Brooklyn to me represented NEW YORK and The United States Of America. She was the only one I was introduced to and I loved her. Forget about Long Island, Manhattan, Bronx etc etc, Brooklyn was all I knew. Now that I'm a little more familiar with NY (and other states, I've been to Delaware hehehe), that initial feeling I get coming into Brooklyn has never left me. I don't want it to leave. I love this bridge and all it means to me. One day, IMA WALK IT! lol The End read more

Came here after walking around the Brooklyn Bridge Park! The entrance to the bridge is a little hard to find, but my cousin was showing us around so it was easy for him to take us there! Definitely reminds me of the Golden Gate Bridge in SF, except it's not as red and you aren't side by side with traffic/cars! You definitely feel a lot safer here and can take in the city view a lot nicer! It's not very long! I think it's about 1 mile maximum! So feel free to walk to the end and take closer up photos with the sky scrapers! read more

This place brings me back to life when I am Jaded with the hustle and the grind. Walk across the bridge during the sunset. It's a sign to behold :) read more
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the city!! Recommend going at night/sunset time because there's less people and in my opinion, the view is a lot better when it's getting dark and the city lights start turning on. The only issue is that there's a lot of people (which is to be expected) and bikers can get testy if you're walking in the bike lane (if you just pay attention to your surroundings and get out of the way when they come though, you should be fine). read more
This is, of course, a must-visit landmark for tourists!! It's about a 30 minute walk with lots of foot traffic/ some bikers. We went on a Saturday afternoon, which is probably one of the busiest times to visit, as there were quite a few bikers. It was fortunately a beautiful day, albeit chilly with some wind. We had beautiful views, though, and we could see as far out as the Statue of Liberty, so that was great! Make sure to look back too, whether you're going from Manhattan or Brooklyn side, as both views are amazing! Great photo opportunity, although you can expect other people to be in the background! read more

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge was one of my favorite things to do while in NYC - actually, I think it was my ABSOLUTE favorite. The bridge itself is a massive architectural masterpiece. From below you'll see the cars zooming by, then directly behind you will be NYC and directly in front of you is Brooklyn. The large body of water that separates the two boroughs brings so much peace and serenity - a nice break from the chaos and noise of the city. This bridge is a place I'll visit time and time again. A sight to be seen for sure. read more
Brooklyn bridge is a very popular tourist spot due to the architecture and history on it. It's very cold here as it's open and many cars drive on this bridge everyday. I recommend to wear a warm jacket in the winter and a little jacket during the summer. It can be windy. Along the walk path, there are many padlocks engraved with couples names and years. There are writings of couples names as well. I have only seen this in Asian countries. ;-p The oldest date I have seen is from 2000. I had to put my mark, and wrote my name and my husbands instead since I didn't have a lock. I will bring one the next time I come back to this bridge! There are many benches to sit if you get tired. You have to make sure you don't block the bike paths as you have to respect their way or you'll get run over. The view is great but hard to take good photos as all the steel ropes holding the bridge can get in the way. ;-) I recommend others to go here when you're in NYC. read more
The Brooklyn Bridge. NYC at its finest. A big & beautiful stone structure and architectural gem that you'd be crazy not to visit at least once. Sure it's a hotbed for tourists and elementary school class trips. But as a New Yorker who's been here a little while I still love the occasional walk across. A few random things to keep in mind while visiting: - The bridge is crazy crowded, especially the half coming from Manhattan. Please do us all a favor and keep to the right and mind the bike lane! - If you're going to walk the bridge - walk the whole thing. I've seen so many people walk to the first set of arches and then turn back. I'm not being bias, but the Brooklyn side of the bridge (Dumbo & BK Heights) has so much to offer. - Make sure you have your camera (or phone) handy and check out the view from both sides of the bridge. Downtown and South Seaport is lovely, as is the Manhattan Bridge and Midtown. - Try walking across at night. It's my personal favorite and could be considered very romantic if you walk it with your guy/gal. Nothing beats a twinkly NYC skyline. read more

Breathtaking views of the city! On my most recent visit, Boyfriend & I actually walked across the entire bridge which I highly recommend. This historic landmark is a must visit. FYI, stay out of the bike lane (which is the lane to the left). I almost learned that the hard way.. those bicyclists show no mercy. read more

The Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883. It is a hybrid cable stayed/suspension bridge in New York City. It connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, spanning the East River for motorists, trains, bicycles and pedestrians. It is one of the primary symbols of New York City. Very nice to walk it from Brooklyn to Manhattan. It will take you about an hour to walk this bridge and photo shooting. Also watch the bike lane. People really get pissed off if you are not understand where to walk. read more

The Brooklyn Bridge is a must do while in New York. Staying in East Village, I was lucky enough to just hop on the subway (L line to City Hall Station) and get off right near the Brooklyn Bridge. Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes and bear in mind the throngs of people! It was exciting to walk across - with the commuter traffic underneath and all the pedestrians above. The views are excellent too - you can see the Statue of Liberty and also views over Brooklyn, and once you are on the other side, views over Manhattan. I only walked across the bridge during the day, but I think at night, it would be magical! read more
U.S. National Register of Historic Places U.S. National Historic Landmark NYC Landmark The pedestrian walkway across the bridge is slightly over 1.1 miles. We walked from Brooklyn to Manhattan and ended up at City Hall. I was slightly apprehensive as I'm scared of heights, but I felt better once I was at the halfway point. Make sure you stay on the left to avoid the bicyclists as they whiz by. There are love locks on the bridge, but nothing compared to N Seoul Tower. From the bridge, there are great views of NYC's skyline and Manhattan Bridge. It's a must visit! read more

I cannot believe i delayed walking the Brooklyn Bridge till my fifth trip to the city. What an unbelievable experience. You can walk the bridge or rent a Citi bike on either the Brooklyn or Manhattan side. The walk takes roughly 30 minutes without stopping. This is where you will find some of the best views of Manhattan. At the halfway point the pictures are outstanding capturing both the bridge and Manhattan in a variety of ways. Do this on your first trip to NYC and don't miss out on what I think is one of the best view points in the entire city! read more

This is probably one of my favorite places to go to! If you are tourist I highly recommend to check this out! We get there around 7 pm and walk all the way to the Dumbo and then to the park near beach! By the time we got to Dumbo it was sunset. The sky was so beautiful! Unforgettable moment for me. It look like someone painted the sky! And after that we went to the park near beach, it was already dark and they turn on lights it was magical!!! The most beautiful moment in my life! Highly recommend to go afternoon because the sunset is beautiful and at night is magical! read more

Just walked across the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time, and I think it is definitely worth the trip. With several stops for photos, it took about 30 minutes each way. There's a few inclines, but nothing that would be considered "extreme," Perhaps it was just because I went during 4th of July weekend, but expect high traffic during most of the day, and don't be surprised if there is any construction! That can make the already narrow paths, well, minuscule. I recommend taking a smart phone and/or professional camera to capture the views about halfway up the bridge! You get a great glimpse of the skyline, but be aware of bikers, joggers, and plenty of panhandlers. read more

It's a lengthy but we'll worth the walk. It's a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the city!! read more
I recommend taking this journey whether you are a local or tourist. It is free and fun, with even more fun on both ends. I recommend eating on the City Hall/Chinatown side and admiring the architecture of the old courthouse buildings. The Brooklyn side is great for shopping the DUMBO art and design district and getting some overrated ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory. Then, taking in the view of the city from on of the waterside parks. Avoid the $15 lobster rolls and overpriced tacos and pizza. You better stay in the walking lane on the bridge or you will get smashed by oncoming bicycles, and stop at the top of the bridge to take in the view. Bring water, otherwise you will need to buy some from a vendor because you will be super thirsty. read more

Came here from 9/11 memorial and wanted to see this attraction. We took the subway and luckily made it across half way. This bridge has great history significants and lots of movies was made here or around it. This was one of my many stops and a major tourist attraction from all over the world. I highly recommend this place for visit if you interested... just know some history of it, so it not just another bridge you walking on. read more
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is a must for visitors to NYC. Definitely start on the Brooklyn side, because the views of Manhattan as you walk across the bridge are amazing. It's quite a popular thing to do, and many people commute across the bridge by foot or bike, so it can be a bit overwhelming. But it's worth it for the views and to see the architecture of this amazing bridge - it was the first steel-wire suspension bridge ever constructed! It's a little over a mile, so I'd say you need 30 minutes to cross it (20 minutes of walking and 10-ish of stopping to take pictures, read signs, etc.). Definitely a classic NYC experience that all tourists should experience! read more

Parking is sooooooo easy to find on the side streets. That's where everyone parks. Just don't leave anything visible so ppl can break ur car windows. It is NEW YoRK at the end of the day.
Do I have to pay to go on the Brooklyn bridge?
