Stopped in to see how these sandwiches hold up to NJ/NY italian subs and they did not disappoint! The sandwiches were massive and they were enough for 2 meals. My favorite of the 2 was the Red Hook - pink roast beef with melted mozz, eggplant cutlets, lettuce and aioli on garlic bread. I just wouldn't get the lettuce next time as it does get soggy on the warm sandwich. The combination just worked and the sauce put it over the top. We also tried some of the to go meals from the fridge - the penne vodka was really good. I popped the lasagna in the freezer for another day. The poor reviews you read here are pretty accurate. While the guy running the place is a wise ass at times, that's fine by me if only he countered it with good offerings. I'm Italian, born and raised in The Bronx (near Arthur Avenue), and this guy somehow thinks he can pull the wool over people like me who know the real deal. Shameful. This has become one of my favorite go to places in Milford. They make fantastic hero's, pre-cooked foods that you can bring home and heat up and everything has always been consistently delicious. I have gotten their stuffed shells, chicken parmigiana dishes, plus some soups. I have a tuscan bean soup in my freezer right now. Their dishes are literally restaurant quality food that you can just heat up at home. Their heroes are just as delicious. I look forward to coming here when I am in the area. I figured 3rd time was a charm My aunt had us order catering and I was so against it but we did and it was a wonderful choice. The chicken was cooked soft and fluffy white, the sauce was homemade, the eggplant was sweet and NOT acidity. They know their catering well. They had loads of options too. Not just 1 or 2. So Can I say I was wrong and Brooklyn Boy and I wanted to re-review. I have to say this place found its footing. I must have went back then when mercury was in retrograde because compared to a year ago they have glowed up in a good way. They have gotten a great balance on their inventory. they are stocked now. No more going there and everything is gone. Ok italian bread is still in hot demand and they don't make breadcrumbs but everything has been great. Could not believe the owner/manager started to make our sandwiches without wearing gloves! When asked if she would please use gloves, she replied," I've washed my hands 5 times already today!" She stated this while wearing headphones around her neck. She had an attitude from the start and them became arrogant and nasty when asked to please use gloves. The guy who runs this place is consistently rude and doesn't know how to treat people. It's really sad to see what this place has become. Fretta's was amazing, this place doesn't compare in any way. First time I went in, when they opened, I had to deal with this dude, and he was mean and disrespectful from the first interaction. I've gone in several times over the years, and always avoided him...luckily the other people who work there are really friendly. Today I went in looking for a pork butt, which I almost exclusively get at prime time now because the folks there are polite and helpful. But I thought I'd stop here this time to see if they had them and save the extra few minutes of travel up the road. This guy treated me like complete shit from the first question I asked. It's remarkable that he thinks this is how you treat people. I don't leave bad reviews, I don't care about stuff like this, but old boy really pissed me off. I'm from NYC & when this store was taken over to the current owner, I immediately did not care for him. He's obnoxious & every time I go in there he stares at me & makes me feel uncomfortable. He does the same thing to my wife and she has mentioned it to me when I never told her he did it to me. I am an Italian American & he tries to correct me on certain meats I point to in the meat case. This past weekend I asked for fresh ricotta that usually comes in a small tin & he tells me he has it in the back of the store. He asks me what size container of it I want so he fill it up. When I got home I realized that it was not the fresh ricotta, it was the one the supermarket sells. He made me think I was getting something & he charges me for something else. It was good but not what I wanted & I was specific in what I wanted too. He buys the store bought one & fills up containers for his customers & charges his price. I think he thinks because most people buy n the area aren't from NYC or NJ he can fool them through blunt they are getting Italian food & he's not reasonable either. I will NEVER go back there..... the previous owner has opened up a store near me & they carry that ricotta & I will buy from them & they were much more friendly too. Very friendly deli and store. The sandwiches ( the Flatbush and a eggplant parmesan on a hard roll) we're fantastic. My only beef and why I didn't give a fifth star was that both the soups we got( vegetable and mushroom) we're way to salty. The Red Hook hero is "off the hook" delicious. Roast beef, eggplant, mozzarella on a toasted garlic hero with garlic aioli dressing, what a combination of flavors. The sandwich was stacked, worth every penny. I don't live in the area, but it's worth the drive. Next time I'm in Milford, I'm getting another Red Hook And I will bring my cooler to fill it up with the fresh made ravioli. Second time going here and we are happy with each visit. Today we got prosciutto bread, Italian bread and stuffed meat. Everything is always fresh and delicious. We did get the rice balls not a big fan of them however they weren't terrible!! It is busy inside but that should tell you something!! I heard about this place from a client. We recently moved to PA and she suggested this deli. We were in the Milford area and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! We are from NY and haven't found a good Italian deli. We got dried sausage ( hot and sweet) ricotta salada, Genoa salami, stuffed peppers ,corn chowder and semolina Italian bread. Everything is delicious! So fresh too! We will definitely take the 45 min drive again to come back here. The meats looked so good and the sausages too!
