Unfortunately, this "owner" is mistaken and erroneous in his allegations. My father never received "free" days. EVER. We left because the previous owner had sold the business and the QUALITY of care had not been retained. PERIOD. This comment, in my opinion, is an attempt to sway potential clients. I'm offended and have thus lowered my rating of this business to ONE star.

Well, I just got out of a 10-day stay at this nursing home which I attended strictly for the…read morePhysical Therapy rehabilitation. It was much less that I had hoped for and even less for what I'd expected. In no particular order I will give details of the horrors you might expect. Keep in mind that for an older person with terminal issues this might have been much better, but I was probably the youngest in the facility and only needed P.T., not nursing. I had a multiple-occupancy room (read semi-private, two patients) that had a TV each but both TVs were controlled with the same coded remote. When I would turn mine off or on or changed the channel or volume level, his would change, too, and vice-versa. It had a bathroom much smaller that any Motel 6 I'd even been in. It had belt-sander quality toilet paper. And there was no shower... only a bi-weekly schedule to go down to the "spa" always with a nurse or assistant who did their best impression of Nurse Rachet (controlling the shower hose, freezing temps, dumping handfuls of shampoo on my hair, all while seated in one of their rolling PVC shower seats. I am not a xenophobe, but when all of the staff speaks loud Creole in your presence and only barely try to speak English when they address you, I find it disturbing and off-putting. The P.T. "gym" looked more like an adult kindergarten, including match-the-shape games. The silicone rubber bands they used for muscle-strengthening made me think that I was in Joe's Garage and Kindergarten. The staff seemed more interested in whistling to 80's tunes or talking about their next meal plans than focusing on the P.T. The entire facility reminded me of a stalog; it took the door code of the day to exit a door to the outside. This might be effective against dementia patients wandering off, but I was clearly with all of my senses and it would have been nice to sit for awhile outdoors listening to the quite sounds of traffic... It took the kitchen/nutrition staff 9 days to finally get my food orders correct. I make the majority of my meals fresh and raw. So instead of blindly opting in for the lemmings' fare of heated canned food, I spent entirely too much time getting them to make me salads and sandwiches. And why are we still wearing traditional hospital gowns? It made more sense back when most of our medicines were hypodermics in the buttocks, but they have got to go. They provide no protection, they never fit, and the ties get knotted up. My assigned doctor was on vacation when I was admitted and never returned during my 10-day visit. Their inter-departmental communications were horrible, with me often repeating the same set of information to many staff members who should have shared it. I hope this will guide you towards selecting a better nursing home/rehab experience than I had.

He is in Skilled…read moreNursing and I they definitely DO NOT have enough help to meet the needs of the few patients they have, especially on weekends. I do my husband's laundry because of allergies to liquid soap and have posted three signs up in his room to this effect. Unfortunately some of his clothes turn up missing, plus I find things in his drawer which are NOT his. I also purchased Pads to be used on his wheelchair with his room number on them, they disappear on a regular basis and the search must go on. Today when I arrived my husband was half shaved, teeth not brushed and sometimes I find him wet. On Sunday we had him out for 2 1/2 hours. Upon returning he wanted to take a nap. We rang for a CNA, after twenty minutes one came into the room and we were told they were ALL eating lunch and we would have to wait. After another half hour, I had a friend help me assist him with a dry diaper and put him in bed. As I was leaving two CNA's were walking out of the room next door with a scale. I guess it is more important to weigh someone then to make sure that the clients are clean and dry. All these issues might seem minor, but when we are talking about the man I love, his care is NOT minor.

One of my favorite parts of living there is the concierge staff. Anything that you need, you just let the concierge know and they see that it is taken care of "Millie" had been there since day one and she knows everything and everyone and makes sure whatever you need is taken care of. She is kind. friendly, and, could not be more accommodatiing. And you can recognize her laugh from a block away!

My mother, who has been living in an assisted living apartment at Terracina Grand for the past 6…read moreyears moved to The Gardens at Terracina Health and Rehabilitation after she had a stroke. We spent a long time looking for the right place for her and were happy to have found this one. My Mom is 91 years old and has had frequent hospitalizations in the past 10 years and we are so grateful for the care and patience with which she has been treated for this extended period of time. She has several physical therapists and occupational therapists in both the Gardens as well as her apartment at Terracina Grand and they always work with her to build up her strength and get back to a normal way of life. She has been in a wheelchair ever since her stroke but there are always enough CNAs and Nurses who monitor her medication and get her to and from the bathroom, as well as work with her when she has problems swallowing. The food is very good particularly at the Gardens and even though it sometimes must be softened so that she can easily eat it, she is usually able to rehabilitate herself with the help of the wonderful people who attend her there. We couldn't be happier than to have a place such as The Gardens for Mom to recuperate in until she is strong enough to go back to a more independent lifestyle which is available at Terracina Grand.

For anyone who wants to read details of an adult-child experience losing a parent: My mother…read moreendured weeks of poor care at HealthPark Hospital (Ft. Myers) and terrible care at The Terraces (Bonita Springs) before my sister and I made the difficult decision to admit our mother to Avow Hospice in Naples. Thank god someone told us that Avow had just started admitting patients from Lee Country, and thank God a bed was available. Mom was quite suddenly at the end of her life, and we were unprepared to set up proper home care. Mom said she was glad when she arrived at Avow, and the next day she told us she felt the nurses cared about her. Thank you, Avow, for making Mom--and our family--feel safe and supported. They also gave her a drug that truly eased her suffering without causing her to be completely sedated. However, I did clash with one nurse who wanted to increase the dose right away and who implied I wanted to keep my mother alert when she needed to have pain relief. Other nurses and supervisors agreed to a lower dose. I know it's not easy to make these determinations, but don't be afraid to question what's happening and speak to whoever is in charge at the moment. I respect the expertise of health care professionals, yet every nurse will have their own preferences. Prior to Mom's arrival at Avow, she spent weeks at HealthPark hospital and 10 days at The Terraces. Care at The Terraces was just horrible, even when I was right there in the room. This facility is seriously understaffed, and I do feel sorry for the nurses, who are being put in a bad position. (Avoid this place if your loved one is very ill but being discharged and sent to rehab. It might be ok for someone there to rehab from a knee replacement.) Care at HealthPark was more frequent but still poor. My main complaint is lack of compassion, kindness, and professionalism at these places. I know it's easy to find fault, and I know understaffing is a serious problem. and yet health care is a higher calling and sick people deserve attention and care. I say all of this in order to compliment Avow, the only hospice I can report on. Nurses came frequently, they were compassionate to Mom and us. Thank you. Kindness was abundant and staff respected the gravity of the situation. My sister and I were impressed by the priest who made rounds. He was personal, and he wanted to know all about Mom's life. He wasn't put off when we told him that none of us, including Mom, still went to mass, and he didn't pressure us to do anything. I like to think Mom was comforted by the last rites he provided. Why not a 5 star review? A couple reasons: the TV/cable sitution is not great. This might sound unimportant, but my mother was awake and alert two evenings and wanted to watch TV. She said this. But there were many issues with the clicker, settings, and stations. Several staff tried to trouble shoot, but no one could solve the problems. Several stations were on the guide but not subscribed to, including, Turner Classic Movies, a channel that would provide a lot of comfort and familiarity to many patients. Another complaint is about follow through: during the one afternoon Mom was totally aware, she asked for her bed to be wheeled outside on the lanai. The nurse said she had to do something and would be right back but didn't return. So Mom never got to view the beautiful lake. Finally, the night Mom died, my sister and I felt pressured to call a funeral home immediately and to leave quickly. We felt we didn't have enough time with our mother and to gather up our things. It was the middle of the night, so I really don't understand why everything had to happen so quickly. We were in shock, devastated, and shouldn't have even been driving. Despite my criticisms, I believe the Avow facility is excellent and the staff are great. I am glad we brought Mom to the Naples location. I've also received many texts offering to provide support, and I appreciate that, too. I hope some of the shortcomings I've pointed out will be addressed for future patients and their loved ones.
