This facility is run by the most incompetent staff I've ever had to deal with. I'm almost 80 years old and I spend many weeks & months in hospitals and rehabilitation every year. Some of the nursing staff have no idea what they are doing, they have no bedside manner. One of the nursing staff broke some of my medical equipment by kicking it, when I brought this up with management I was promised that it would be replaced. That never happened and my numerous telephone calls and voice mails have gone unanswered. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate this facility minus 50. We can't say enough about the amazing job Brookdale, Camarillo did looking after our dad. While he was only there just under two years (of course, we were hoping for longer, he was 94 when he passed), they took the most amazing, loving care of him every day. Jowell, the Assisted Living Director, every single nurse, assistants, maintenance, kitchen, front desk and every person on staff there, went above and beyond to administer incredible care. Never saw anyone who didn't treat dad with the utmost respect. He was such an independent man, we were very concerned how he would do in an Assisted Living facility, but he adjusted so well, and we know it was due to the wonderful care provided to him. We could never thank the entire staff at Brookdale enough. We are forever grateful. P.S. I failed to mention how welcome they always made us feel when we came to visit, which was very frequent before Covid. read more

My mother was in rehab and we had a very good experience. The nurses, therapist, activities people were kind and thoughtful. They also proactively communicates with me through my my Moms stay. It was a full team approach to provide care, therapy and stimulating activities to make the stay as productive and productive and pleasant as possible. It is not the Ritz Carlton. It is a skilled nursing environment and I am grateful my mom was able to recover at Brookdale. read more

I applied for a job here yesterday, and the interview team made me very uncomfortable. It was comprised of the Program Director, a nurse, and an older African American gentleman. When my interview began, he simply barked out "What school?" Without introducing himself. I have a little over 2 years of experience as a CNA, and when I have this approximation, he said "You would like to say, or you are sure? I would like to say I saw Jesus the other day." He continued being pedantic throughout the interview and even laughed in my face at one of my answers. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism just from an interview. I later received a job offer from Maryann (spelling?) which I declined when I explained the staffs behavior. Maryann did not even offer an apology, she just seemed in a hurry to get me off the phone. If this is how they treat applicants, I can only imagine how they treat their staff and residents. I would not want my loved ones to be under their care. They boast that they are top 4 in the country, yet this is how they handle grievances. There are so many other great facilities out there to choose from. Please search elsewhere. read more

I was a physical and occupation therapy patient at Brookdale Camarillo from 28 May-23 June 2018. I developed quadriceps tendinitis in the right knee and unable to walk. The therapist immediately began treatment upon arrival. Both feet were swollen and I was hesitant regarding the first initial treatments. Nevertheless, the therapist persisted that I must attempt to walk. Fortunately, their persistence was correct and I truly thank Katie's team members:(Charlene, Lindsey, Sinan, Rag, Chad, Sharon, Ana, Theresa). Additionally, thank the kitchen staff (Joe, Marcos and entire crew) for providing exceptionally delicious meals. Furthermore, appreciate Misa and entire nursing staff for their medical attentiveness. There are far to many to name, however, I will give an attempt: Irene, Elisa, Amber, Jennifer, Judel, Yvette, Genalyn, Andrea, Amber, Christina, Kristina, Nikki, Jesse, Janet, Heather, Laticia, Sarah, Elvira, John, Amanda, Shey, Janette. Also thank Roshelle and Shamby from the recreation staff efforts. Finally, thankful to Mercedes for social work endeavors. My dad has been at Brookdale Camarillo for more than a year now. I have to say that some of the staff is just wonderful. Very patient and loving with the residents. One person who really stands out is Amanda Ericksonn. She is the Activities person - she's been there for 5 years, and she always has a smile on her face - she's always going above and beyond the duties of her job. The residents adore her. I've gotten to spend Wednesdays during Poetry Club with her. My dad was really struggling with adjusting to the new environment until he joined Poetry. Amanda made him feel so welcome, and gave him something to look forward to each week. Brookdale is really lucky to have someone as exceptional as Amanda on their staff. read more

I was a patient in the acute care section (room 181B) fo 18 days after 10 days in the hospital. I am writing to tell you what a great CNA/Nursing Staff and PT and OT Therapists you have. I know I will miss some names (they were all great) but to mention some: CNA: Meghan, Celeste, Sarah, Anna, Cassandra, Cassie, Alexa, Annabelle, Adriana, Claudia, Princess, Junie, and Jessie. For nurse care there was the shining star of the group--Dorathy. I can't say enough. I also got great care from Jamila and Gene (female). If I missed someone it was an accident. For the main reason I was there--PT Danielle. We bonded and she made me want to get better. For OT there was Laura we too bonded and she worked with me to strenghen my hands and to do more. The only negative was the food in the third week. It was not up to par with the first two. I would highly recommend your facility to anyone. Unfortunately you don't contract with medi-cal so 20 days was my maximum. Please pass along my comments. I also want to thank Mesie who looked after me. read more

My mom passed away here 4 years ago. My sister and I couldn't have asked for a more caring and attentive staff. They all cared for mom like she was their own. My sister was there most of the time, as I live out of state. We hired a gal separately from the staff to be with her all day. She made sure she was dressed with make up and lipstick on every day as mom liked, got her to bingo and other events and generally watched over her. No we don't have a bunch of money. There is excellent assistance to be found in the area for very little money. To those who weren't happy with the staff giving their family members enough attention, you have to understand that the staff do the best they can but are stretched to the limit. And shame on those of you who didn't bother to visit your family, then blame the staff for them not getting attention. I frequently checked in on many folks who never had a single person visit. Absolutely heartbreaking. read more

My mother has been a resident of the Assisted Living section of the Brookdale, Camarillo facility for over 4 years. Based on our experience, we can't recommend it highly enough. The staff could not be more compassionate or caring. Jowell, Ron, Rommel, Mary, Crystal, Roxy, Marjorie, I could go on and on. The caregivers don't just provide highly competent assistance-- they also deliver their care with genuine compassion and warmth to each resident. I've witnessed this many times- not just with my mom, but walking by other ares where I've heard them interacting with other residents. Brookdale does a great job in providing daily activities for the guests, as well as transportation and other essential services. The restaurant that provides the residents with daily meals does a fine job, also. It's a very pleasant environment (particularly during holidays, where they do a beautiful job of decorating and providing holiday-themed activities, music, etc.). Vincent Gonzaga, the Executive Director does a fine job managing the facility. One testament to his ability is the longevity of many of the caregivers on his staff. Many of them have been there since before my mom became a resident. The low turnover is a driving force behind the quality of the care, and speaks to a congenial work environment. My mom loves it here. We're grateful every day for this facility. read more

I was set up with an appointment through "a place for Mom" for this Wednesday, 9/12/18. I live three hours from Camarillo and happened to be driving through on Monday, 9/10/18. I left a message on the voice mail of Rebecca Simental that morning to see if I could arrange to stop by on Monday instead of Wednesday. Still haven't received a call back. If they can't be bothered to return a call, how can I expect them to take care of my mother?? I crossed you off my list Brookdale of Camarillo. I have PLENTY of other options. Do not be fooled by these people. # 1 the DON Memzy is full of crap he walks around with this arrogant attitude very rude talks to people with his Sun glasses on which is disrespectful walks around like he's about to do a photo shoot when he needs to focus on the workers when their not doing there jobs right #2 patients shouldn't be getting meds in the hallway for everyone to see I think it's a violation on that part...LVN some are rude I wish I knew her name she looks nevermind her race not going in that direction #3 Lazy CNA's I've witnessed them a couple of times thinking that the caregivers are supposed to do all there work never check call lights and never check patients even if cargivers are around their even rude to the cargivers Memzy included #4 I witnessed something that discussed me... I heard Memzy tell one of his CNA to stop what she was doing which involved her cleaning a patient to attend to another patient all because he he was told that someone from an agency was coming and he wanted the patient who was up roaming the hallway to be cleaned why wasn't that patient cleaned already... I also think Memzy thinks that cargivers work for that company when I asked one of the caregivers she told me that the family hire them through a agency...bad move on his part because the way he talks to cargivers is unacceptable especially when he tried to tell the young lady not to use her phone Good for her she didn't back down I also hired the young lady to work with one of my family members because I seen how she was standing up for the patient she worked for... I let my friend know about them and hopefully their family will be removed... I can go on and on about that facility... #5 CNA toss patients food on the table unacceptable RNA has serious attitude I didn't want her helping my friends family member but it wasn't my call... This place was beautiful before it changed hands to Brookdale. It is now completely mismanaged by people who could give a rip. I'm seriously considering moving my mother out. The carpets and floors are filthy -- you can see dirt streaks running thickly down them. Water glasses look like they haven't been washed, and water appears to have stuff floating in it. They are so understaffed that the cooks come out to serve meals. Food is canned, soggy, and disgusting. Washers and dryers are frequently broken. (Which is an issue when you have one on each floor to serve about 50 people). Try talking to management -- if you can find them -- and nothing is ever fixed. All this, and the monthly fees went up hundreds of dollars this year. Be wise and look elsewhere. This is a filthy soulless bunch. read more

I'd like to start by saying that in 30 years as a nurse I've never seen such horrifying treatment of any of my patients by a facility. I wish you had a negative star rating and that is what this place would get. I am a hospice nurse and one of my patients was staying in their memory care unit for a short period while her daughters home was repaired. Ive been with my patient long enough to know she would never do what they claimed she did. Shes never been anything but pleasant even when her anxiety levels were high due to her alzheimers diagnosis. two days ago my patients daughter was informed that they would be needing the room that her mother was in as they will be able to rent it for someone permanently. this was upsetting because my patient had adapted so well to the place and as one of the staff members stated just 3 days prior "she is such a pleasure to have around, so sociable and sweet". Business is business and it was understandable that they would be interested in acquiring a permanent resident as opposed to a temporary one. all the arrangements were made to move her on sunday to another facility. Last night 8/2/2016 my patients daughter recieved a phone call from the facility stating that her mother was caught choking someone and that she needed to be picked up immediately or they would call the police. My patients daughter is staying in a hotel while her home is repaired. she asked for the details of the situation but the person on the phone yelled at her and stated that she just needed to get her mother out immediately. they were rude to my clients daughter they refused to give the patients medications to the daughter and they kept all the supplies that were provided by our company. This company is a disgrace, the treatment of this patient was horrendous and their obviously all about the buck. Do yourself a favor and find a place that would at least follow protocol and treat people humanely. Basically what happened was my patient with alzheimers was kicked out at 830pm to go stay at a hotel, without her medications and without her incontinent supplies. Amazing! read more

Great place Fantastic staff! Keeps family members informed about care and concerns. More expensive then I would like but it's definitely 5 stars. My Dad has lived there for almost two years. I keep telling my kids that when I get to be where he is in life I want to go to Brookdale. I know most of the staff and they are so patient and kind. They have activities for all the residents and decorate for all the holidays. They have special events, worship services, library visits, outings, arts and crafts, bridge and provide transportation for Drs visits. I'm not as familiar with memory care but I'm guessing they are very patient. Skilled nursing is in the same building so if there is a need, it's easy to get that help. Additionally I transferred my Dad to the Dr on staff so he has access to him without having to go to his office. My Dad needs help with his medicine so I'm very familiar with this service. They find him wherever he is and give it to him so he doesn't need to stop having fun. The place is clean and I have not seen any signs of infection in the two years I have been going there. I am currently trying to get my Aunt to move there from CO. read more

I recently stayed at Brookdale Nursing Home. I was there for rehab after surgery. I was so VERY pleased with everything. Extremely caring nursing team and the physical therapists were amazing. Thank God, my son got me in here, because I was originally sent to Camarillo Health Care facility, also in Camarillo. My Lord, what a difference. At Camarillo Health Care, it was everything wrong you have ever heard about nursing homes. From not giving me my correct medicine to trying to give me MORE pain meds than I had asked for. After about 10 days, I woke up and thought I was having a stroke, as half of my face was numb. I asked them to call 911 and they would not do it. I finally had to start screaming that it was against the law not to call 911, when a patient asks. I am saying this here, because, somehow, I can't find them on yelp. Brookdale is THE place to go in Camarillo. Great food, too. Keep up the great work. You have a beautiful atmosphere. Thanks. read more
