He sent me away with a receipt for the quote and knew that it might take two or three weeks for my hire certificate to come through from my employer. I asked him if the bike could be kept on one side for me - he said it couldn't (reason unclear) but seemed to think that the model I wanted wouldn't go out of stock. A few days ago I rang him to let him know that I was still waiting for the hire agreement to be processed and to check the bike we'd chosen would still be in stock. He assured me that it would be. The voucher finally came through at the end of last week and this Monday morning, at the first opportunity, I visited the store to hand it over and get the bike properly ordered. You can guess what happened - I was told that the bike is no longer available "in any size", as if I'd want a size that isn't right for me. I am very disappointed. I now have to cancel the voucher, tell my employer not to make the salary deductions from next month and start the whole bureaucratic process again. It seems to me that Evans don't take this scheme seriously - or they'd find a way of making sure this didn't happen. They have lost me as a customer as a result. I shall try a small independent shop next time, where maybe the bike deals aren't quite always as good but at least I might actually end up with a bike.

I had…read morea number of hours to kill over three days and on the first day I had to wait for repairs I stumbled on this bike shop/cafe. I don't cycle (yet) but I really love bike cafes. It must stem from my appreciation of using a space to it's fullest potential. Why just be a bike store when you can also put a cafe in there! Needless to say this shop really has lots to offer beyond just the food, though that is my favourite part. So far I've tried the croissants and pain au chocolat, two types of Luscombe juices, and a flat white. Originally I wanted an iced coffee but the barista said they only serve them hot though he proceeded to mention the cold juice they have in the fridge. The coffee was good, smooth and proper, but I started getting the juice mostly because it's cold, delicious, organic, and comes in a large glass bottle. The pastries made for good afternoon snacks as well. I can't personally vouch for the bike related aspects though I did see lots of customers come in to either pick up their bike or bring it in. Either way I think this is a nice addition to Berwick Street and I've enjoyed waiting out my computer issues in the comfort of their cafe.

But when I needed a brake cable replaced the other day and was lacking decent cutters to accomplish it myself, I tried to take it to Evans, who told me it would be 3 days until they could get to it. These guys were close to my office, so I went to them instead. Long story short: 2 hours, half the price of Evans, super nice guys, and excellent coffee to boot! I will definitely be bringing them more of my bike business in the future - I'm interested to see how they handle more complex repairs and maintenance.

There are lots of brochures for cycling events around Europe, and tablets for more information on each bike. As a fan of cycling over cars, it was good to see a bike show room take iver some prime real estate much like a fancy car showroom (think Tesla). Some bikes' prices are definitely within the range of a decent road bike - something to work towards. A must see for any bike enthusiast. Staff are friendly and are willing to help if necessary.

Then a second from South Ken to Sloane Square. And a third from Sloane Square to Victoria. The downsides: - You must have a "chip & pin" card to rent. American "swipe & sign" cards are not accepted. - It's quite frustrating when you do finally manage to find a cycle rack to return your cycle and all the slots are full. While you can add another 15 minutes of riding time for free, you're not where you want to be. - The three bikes I've rented had an annoying tendency of shifting gears at the most inopportune times. I nearly banged my chin with my knee when it slipped one time. Also, the bell didn't work on any. - The fenders are great, but you will still want to lift your feet when you go through a puddle. The upsides: - Price! - Convenience! - Health! - Very easy to operate. Slide the seat to the right level and off you go. Would I rent again? Yeah, I think so. Tips: - You really should get a bike helmet. No, they're not stylish. But then, a fractured skull won't win you Project Runway. - Set a count down timer on your phone for 20 minutes so that you know when it's time to start looking for a cycle rack. I picked up a bike at the back of Smithfield Market and rode it to Covent Garden. The journey was quicker that it would have been on foot and far more pleasant then taking the Tube. On a Saturday I borrowed a bike on Clerkenwell Road and rode it to Spitalfields. On a Sunday I hired another and went to St Paul's and over to the Southbank. All of these are journeys I otherwise would not have taken, or at the very least would not have been nearly as enjoyable as they were on a bike. I find myself now waking up at the weekend thinking about where I'm gonna ride. With more than 300 hire points located throughout central London and 5,000 bikes in total, I have high hopes that it will help London become a kinder, gentler place. The bikes feel a bit better than the Paris Vélib' and the front basket with its elastic cord held my purse snugly. They're still ironing out the wrinkles in the scheme but with the exception of one small snag, I've ridden these bikes at least ten times without incident and enjoyed the experience tremendously.

I trust these guys this much. Each time they've been shy but perfectly happy to help and fix things. They're simply guys who love bikes and love fixing bikes and they do it with a smile. And when they fix stuff, they've usually found something else on the bike that they can improve and throw it in for free. As an example, my rear mud guard was loose - always had been - so when I took it in to fix my chain I just expected a new and oiled chain at the end of it. When I got the bike back, not only had they fixed my brakes and my chain they had also made from scratch some means of stopping my rear mud guard from bouncing all over the place. No charge. No problems. Don't expect this every time you go but it shows how far they go to make sure everyone leaves with a smile. They're great :D

It was meant to be ready on Friday but I couldn't collect as I was off work. You think they'd have it ready three days later! Having been advised it would 'just take five minutes' I was still waiting ten minutes later. This is the second time in a row this branch have made me wait while they repair my bike, despite coming back for collection. Last time they rushed the repair and I had to bring it back two more times to be done again. What's the betting they rush this repair and I break down on the way home? Next time I'll be using The London Bicycle Company round the corner - they're a professional organisation. Further to my last review - to top it all off after they rushed my bike repair on the spot I pointed out to Evans Waterloo that this is when mistakes happen - queue - a problem with my gears on the way home; what a surprise! They had messed up the gears when replacing the back wheel inner tube and I was missing a gear. They made such a mess of re-repairing my bike last time I just got my husband to fix it this time. On my first interaction with Evans I really felt they couldn't organize a children's tea party let alone repair a bike. The only reason I returned this time was because I have an injured ankle and I couldn't walk far enough with a flat tire to get to the London Bicycle Company. This time Evans Waterloo really excelled themselves proving that they can't even repair a flat tire - nice work guys. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP - they're utter amateurs.

As a road specialist the store and its staff are very much geared up for giving you the best advice and support for road bikes. Whenever I've been in here it has always been busy, but the staff are very helpful when you get to speak with them, and are never in a rush to get rid of you and serve the next person. They finish with you when you are good and ready. The store is well laid out and there is room for wheeling in your bike.
