Love this airport! Flew in here in a Cessna 172 for my dual cross country from Buffalo, NY a few…read moreweekends ago. Here are just a few pluses: - No parking fees! - The cheapest AV gas in the region! - Everyone is so nice and there is an awesome Italian restaurant on-site. As Stacey mentions, the Regional airports have charm that you won't find in the huge International airports. The runways are a nice length. 3 and 21 are over 5,000 ft and 12 and 30 are a little smaller at 3,500 ft but still plenty enough length to land smaller one-engine airplanes. It has a full ILS (instrument landing system) and MALSR approach lights which help you fly in here at night. It's a great place to fly in and a decent place to eat right at the airport with the Prima Barone restaurant being a decently classy and awesome place. Bonus live music on Friday night's (which I haven't experienced yet). I see myself making many more trips up here. It's a really fun airport to fly into!

Located in Franklin, the Regional Airport mostly serves for private plane owners, but United offers service from Cleveland to Franklin. It is a very tiny airport and I am completely in love with it. This regional airport has all the small town charm that you will never find in an international airport. There is one terminal, one baggage claim, and no waiting. One of the airport employees waited with me until my ride arrived because he was concerned. When was the last time an airport employee showed any concern when a ride didn't arrive on time? Here, it is just how it's done! On my return trip I checked in with a smiling United worker. Sure, there was a kiosk I could have used, but she helped me out. My family was able to sit with me for an hour before TSA did their screening. I had to walk through their only metal detector while talking with the nicest TSA agents ever. They even offered us passengers umbrellas to use as we walked to the plane in the pouring rain! The service was great. The airport is quaint. They have some history of the region on the walls and a restaurant attached. It's not a state of the art facility, but it's not worn down either. In truth it is rather lovely!

The…read moreair traffic control for it is located way over in Erie, Pennsylvania and flying in or out of it during the winter months gets to be somewhat white knuckle and iffy side of things. However, to its credit it is the only airport with plenty of free parking and, unlike other large airports, friendly and rather hassle free. I usually fly in by private plane as commercial connections to or from it are constantly changing and are generally not very good or for that matter even existent. For the most part it's a taxpayer support waste since the much larger Buffalo/Niagara Falls Airport is only 60 miles away. Hence, really unnecessary for use by the everyday traveler. The interior of it is sparklingly clean and has some rather interesting displays for local attractions such as for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History. Overall, for a small regional airport, I like it and for the area within which it is located, is far better than the Bradford/Olean airport or the cow pasture of a landing strip located in nearby Warren, Pennsylvania.

They frequently refuse to put me through precheck even though it's on my ticket. They pull my bag and go through my stuff (making comments about it while they do!) more than any other precheck. Most recently they patted my entire crotch down in front of everyone in the most inappropriate way. I wasn't even offered privacy. And when I commented that it seemed a bit overboard the woman working there was aggressive towards me! I live right next to the airport and I fly here all the time. I use the exact same bags for every trip. I always say hello and try to be polite and understanding of what they are required to do for their jobs. However this team is consistently rude and invasive. They won't even say hello...& this is Erie PA where people are super nice. (As a reference there are people who recognize me consistently in Tampa and Boston and say hello while performing proper screening.) The experience is so bad at this point that I wonder if they are discriminating against me on purpose. But what am I supposed to say? TSA precheck can do whatever they want. Get ready to be groped and have your things snooped through next time you fly through Erie.
