The two high school aged young ladies ran the show and are bubbly with big smiles. There was a line of families with wagons, dad's with daughters on Harleys and carloads with kids in line. A huge family friendly vibe. Now to the ice cream, shakes, freezes, banana splits, twist cones and sundays. With the ice cream there are at least twelve flavors, dipps and cone sprinkles. I ordered the vanilla ice cream with cherry dip while my wife went with the vanilla and toasted coconut dip. Sizes here are HUGE and a GREAT VALUE. My suggestion is order a size smaller than you normally get. The ice cream was creamy and very cold. My wife thought the toasted coconut dip was amazing. Fancy, Softies is not, but a blast from the past and a reminder of yester years. This is an iconic blast to the past that can't help but make you slow down, take a deep breathe and quickly try to eat your ice cream cone before it melts. A most interesting candy store, based out of Lovell, Wyoming, Queen Bee Gardens, a recently opened…read moreshop here, offers candy made with honey from bees kept by a bee-keeping family in Lovell. The specialty appears to be taffy in multiple flavors. You can mix and match or get a prepared bag of one or multiple flavors. If you haven't tried taffy made with honey, you might be surprised at how different it tastes. It's hard to describe exactly, but it's a mellower flavor with a less sweet taste than their sugar-only counterparts. From what I understand, that's how this family-run venture started -- with an old family recipe for taffy. This is a fun store to explore. Besides the honey-sweetened taffy, Queen Bee carries honey sticks, honey caramels, beeswax candles, some honey sauces, bee pollen, and of course, other honey or bee-related items. On one side of the store are chocolate covered candies, although I might recommend reading the label on anything that catches your eye. While most of the bins listed all the ingredients of the goodies within, there are a few items on that side of the store (e.g. salted caramel truffle bar) which has sugar. If you want to be sure, then stick with the taffy, Or ask for help -- they're proud of their store and the product and are willing to help -- even with offering you a sample. However, despite the occasional sugar-based product, Queen Bee makes it very tempting to try other things. An added feature is the ability to bring in a container and pour your own honey from the tap on the counter. It's a cute store, with a different spin on candy and that makes it a must-stop place for those trying to stay away from refined sugar (like that found in the shop next door). It's worth a try..

With treats including gelato, in multiple flavors, and chocolates that are more like truffles but lightly infused with alcohol spirits, Le Macaron doesn't let you stop there without also partaking of the treat that is the namesake of this shop: the macaron The brightly colored cookies might be the first thing you notice (after the gelato) when you enter, just because of their bright colors. I was there later in the day, and there didn't seem to be an overwhelming number, but that actually made it easier to make a choice. There was still a nice variety. Generally, there are about 20 or so kinds, all made locally. There's not much to say about a macaron if you've ever had them, you already know what to expect: a small round cookie made of egg whites, and sandwiched between those slightly crisp- on-the-outside cookies, a soft filling. Because this is noted as a "French pastry" shop, they make these the French way with the egg whites first whipped and then the sugar folded in. Although I like macarons, they'll never be a must-have treat for me, but they are certainly something I'd bring for special occasions because I must be the only one in my circle of friends who is ambivalent about them. Those liquor-infused chocolates, though? Okay, maybe those. There is limited seating available inside (and coffee, too), although these treats are easy to grab and go. Le Macaron also offers other pastries. When in search of something sweet and cupcakes or ice cream aren't grabbing your attention, Le Macaron just might be a worthwhile alternative.

I haven't decided if I like it and that's an odd thing to say about ice cream. I mean - ice cream. What's not to like? My indecision is probably not for a reason expected. The ice cream is smooth, creamy, and you can tell immediately it's a high butterfat ice cream. What's disappointing is the flavor - there's really not much. It looks tasty in the cup or the cone - and kids seem to enjoy it, so perhaps it's just me. If you have trouble deciding,you can get a tiny spoon sampling of a flavor capturing your interest. I've tried a few different flavors, and they all suffer from the same barely-there taste - except perhaps for the Zanzibar chocolate. I guess having three kinds of cocoa must have been enough to amp the overall flavor. Or maybe it's because it was chocolate ,,, because ....chocolate.. The peach has pieces of peach in it; the "This $&@! Just Got Serious" has pieces of cashew; the "Superman" was fun-looking, with three bright colors with the same number of flavors that looked like someone mashed kids play-dough together. All the requisite ingredients are there so I can't figure out the taste deficit. What is impressive is the variety of choices -- at least a dozen. There are a few regular flavors, but also a rotating selection and a special flavor of the week. The ice cream is available in a cone or a cup, or mixed as a sundae or a shake - so there's an option for whatever craving is attacking you at that moment. On a hot day, or when you want to satisfy a sweet tooth, or get the kids a treat without breaking the bank, or just sit outside and enjoy your ice cream and the sunshine, Joe's Cones will do nicely. Will definitely stop in again. Cute place to hang out in as well, nice and bright with comfy looking furniture. Oh and they do have a drive thru.
