There is no back up and residents that are old and frail don't have the resources to fend for themselves. When you are looking for a place to put your Mom, Dad etc. don't choose this one.

When she first moved in to Atria…read moreRye Brook, the facility was well run, had a fully stocked cafe with snacks replenished throughout the day and a decent restaurant. Not anymore! The snacks are gone. The restaurant is awful and The Cafe only has awful coffee or lukewarm tea, no snacks. Every year the rent increased over 3% and the quality went downhill. At holiday times, they used to invite family members (for free) for dinners or lunches. Now the parties only include the residents, (maybe a desert only party for Halloween or Christmas). THere used to be family barbecues for the 4th of July & Labor Day. Those celebrations no longer include families. The windows in the apartments are all broken. They don't open. If they do, they won't close. Frequently the heat & a/c are broken. The infrastructure needs to be replaced. It was poorly designed and very cheaply built. The individual heat or a/c units in the apartments are VERY noisy & inefficient. My biggest complaint however, is the other component,ATRIA HOME CARE, which runs the optional home health agency in the building. Although it is very convenient to have this on-site agency, the quality of the care is questionable in many ways. The agency is understaffed and poorly run. Many of the aides are not well trained to deal with the personalities and problems of senior citizens. There is only one licensed nurse on staff, and no one is there at night. Absenteism is a problem and they don't have enough staff to cover the needs of the residents on a daily basis. THe billing system for Atria Home Care sends out fraudulent, inflated bills and doesn't check the accuracy of their own accounting. They use a phone system to track the charges for Atria Home Care. The system frequently overcharges for the service and if you don't check the bills line by line you could be overcharged thousands of dollars. NO ONE CARES. This agency needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau in Westchester County. If money managers or insurance companies are paying these bills, without carefully checking the charges with the residents, I am sure the bills are frequently wrong. Atria Home Care is not an agency you want to hire to care for your loved ones. Stay away, they are not caring or nurturing, they are just a business in place to make money. Atria Rye Brook is a residence that costs a ton of money and barely delivers.

In the beginning, it was a second home to her, filled with countless activities, caring staff and management, and so on. Unfortunately, as time went on, and my grandmother was having much more trouble walking before transitioning to a wheel chair and constantly having to use the bathroom due to medical issues, the place changed. The facility kept tacking on extra care charges despite the fact my grandma had a private aid 12 hours a day. When trying to call the finance department to state that my family was paying privately for an aid for half the day, all we were left with was an argument, a cold nature from the woman who works in the finance department or at one point, no call backs because they could not be bothered doing their research. My grandmother had fallen, while an aid, who worked for the fountains (not private,) was in her apartment with her, resulting in three fractured ribs, stitches in her head, hip injury, a black eye, a bloody nose and being rushed to the ER. The aid in the room was the same aid my grandmother had asked management not to assist her due to the aids cold, rude and uncaring nature that had resulted in discrepancies in the past. To this day, my grandmother, facility staff and the aid all have different stories. How does a resident fall in their small apartment while an aid is present you may ask? We still ask to this day. On top of this, the facility nearly blamed my grandmother for the aid not doing her job properly. Not too long after this incident, my grandmother had to go to a rehab facility. The Fountains waited until the last possible second (3 days before she was to be released from rehab) to evaluate my grandmother to only say they would not take her back at the fountains. My grandmother was devastated. If you ask me, they did not take her back to cover their own behinds because of the incident that occurred with the aid in her room. The Fountains uprooted my grandmothers entire life due to not taking her back, and essentially left her without a place to live. On top of that, she was expected to pay for each day her belongings were still in her apartment. Imagine being held liable to pay an excessive amount of money when a facility essentially kicked you out of your home? Absolutely sickening. Please be Leary of this place before placing a loved one her. Please also do not trust the aid SUSANNA with your loved one, as she is the aid responsible for my grandmas injuries due to carelessness. The staff and management are not what it used to be. They have no problem taking your money, but have problems with taking responsibility for the staff's poor behaviors and correcting it

It's a great environment, topped off with a fabulous location in the heart of the village of Tuckahoe, New York, experiencing its own revival in recent years. She was doing well in the assisted living for about a year until she had a fall in the dining room caused by the kitchen door knocking her down. Within months she confined to a wheelchair as a result of the fall. Her health continued to decline physically and mentally. In July of this year the director recommended memory promising improved care. However, the care situation worsened once she went to the memory care. We consistently find her wet to the point where her clothes are soaked with urine and a puddle under her wheelchair. We have spoken to the director of arbor as well as the director of memory care and nothing has improved. Our complaints have been ignored and the care continues to decline. We had to reach out the corporate representative and they haven't addressed our concerns. All we are asking for is Arbor to address her basic needs of using the bathroom on a regular basis and not be left wet.
