First, what this place is not: 1. It's not a liquor store. Beer and wine only. 2. It's not a tasting room. 3. It's not a growler bar. I've been to a mixture of bottle shops over the years and they vary in their merchandising and options. I could be wrong, but the beer felt like a sideshow to the wine. There was a cooler with cheeses and caviar. Some other pickled items. Things I connect more with vine parties. There was a good variety in types of beers, but not a huge selection. Plenty of local beers. Some Trappist beers. But no Weihenstephaner, my favorite Trappist brews. Service was cordial. The shop was busy. I have loved this shop for years. I always recommend it to friends and family. I hadn't been there for several months and went in at 4:45 on Friday afternoon. There was a man and a lady behind the counter, there was another woman and her child (visiting, not customers) I was ignored when I walked in...I looked around for the product I was looking for and couldn't find it. I asked. The man rudely gestured to another part of the store 'it would be over there" . I look. Not seeing it, I ask "this shelf?" Big sigh "yeah" eyeroll. Won't go back. There are enough businesses that care about customer service that deserve my business. It's sad. They used to be friendly, helpful and a fun atmosphere. This is a small specialty wine and beer shop! So happy to have come upon this. Kalispell you have a gem here! Historic downtown is becoming more and more a trendy place to visit. The staff is not very personable, but I know what I want and loved being able to find selections from Germany that I have not seen since living there! They have some good choices for meat and cheese in the back corner of the wine section. I'm looking forward to going back and getting some more. However, that is a mere sliver of what this place delivers on. This shop owner and her staff clearly take pride in curating this wine selection. Both the depth and breadth of the rotating selection will impress a wine purist, while the knowledgeable staff can guide the wine novice to a well thought-out choice for a special occasion or a memorable gift. The shop offers varying priced wines, hosts a wine club, and makes gift-buying easy. During most holidays, Brix caters to shoppers who are short on time by preparing gift bags containing a few hand-selected items along with an appropriately themed wine. EXPERIENCE If it's ambiance or the use of historically significant business space you seek, Brix is right up your alley...or down your alley, depending on where you begin. This shop is nestled warmly in one of Kalispell's most popular blocks, so the alley entrance greets customers with a petite boardwalk that makes one think of a long-forgotten European hamlet. Thanks to her, "Montana's First Lady in Rodeo" was given a spectacular Coronation Gala. It was, as Karen intended, the social event of the season! We were grateful to have Karen professionally connected to the local beer and wine distributors. Karen handled all of the necessary state licensing for beverages, as well as everything else you can think of to execute an important event. Karen's organization and planning process, along with her affinity for logistics is long-established and impressive. All this said, it was her absolute excitement, positive attitude, and genuine response to my daughter that cannot ever be replaced. The entire Brix Bottleshop staff were happy to help in any way they could by loading and storing many of our supplies, to hosting our committee meetings, in the available "Nook", and acting as the hub for event-poster distribution and ticket sales.
