Kirk, Pat, and the team at BAS earned themselves a 5-Star review for top class service of my older model Range Rover today. My first time here, I came in for an oil change, and they took the time to listen to a concern I had nagging me for months related to throttle in idle. Kirk and his technician were able to quickly identify it as a common issue with Land Rovers and perform the appropriate fix at the same time frame as my oil change! Other shops didn't want to be bothered with my concern unless I scheduled a full day diagnostic appointment. My baby runs and starts so smooth now with zero throttle issues after this service, it feels brand new again. I'm new to Calgary and have already found a new home for my RR Sport HSE servicing needs! Be cautious. They might do great high-end work, and I'm always interested in supporting a small family-run business like this one. But if you just need simple maintenance work done, make sure you get an estimate up front and that they understand you won't pay for work you didn't authorize. I asked for an oil change and fluid level check. The bill was over $200! Turns out it included the (questionable) replacement of filters and wiper blades they did not ask me if I wanted replaced. I was sitting in the waiting area the whole time - asking wouldn't have been difficult. When I expressed doubt about paying $200 for an oil change, the woman at the front desk offered to remove the new parts and put back the old ones. She also invited me in a threatening way to, "pay what I think their work is worth." What? The quality of their work might be excellent. In fact, I'm certain it is. But I will never be happy paying for work I didn't authorize. And, since they made a mistake, I would expect them to be apologetic, not threatening. I definitely got more than I bargained for. At first you might think that British Auto Specialists may not be able to help you out as for the most part not many people drive British vehicles anymore, but you'd be remiss to think that. They do auto body and maintenance on all brands of vehicles and recently I brought my American vehicle in for repair after a collision. The damage was on some key creases and areas of the car and I honestly expected the auto body team to give me a break down of "as best we can get scenarios". I was completely wrong. I was greeted nicely by the staff and walked through the options available to me for repairing the damage. Prices were clear cut and the team was knowledgeable answering any questions I may have had. Three days later I came to pick up my vehicle and was absolutely floored by the incredible repair the auto body team did. Not only did they repair the area damaged, but they went on to repair a small area near where the collision damage occurred but was unrelated. As my vehicle is now over 12 years old now I was thankful for that extra repair. I was also grateful that one of their auto body guys detailed areas on my vehicle were rust was starting to set in in unseen areas and preventative measures I could take in the future. After showing me the area's you can be sure these guys will see me in the future. And finally, I promise I'll stop ranting and raving after this, but the reason I signed up to Yelp to create this review is that when you have a collision or repair you ultimately just want it taken care of and reassured that its handle by professionals that are fair in charges and work. This is the place, experts will care for your vehicle as much as you do, and from start to finish they handled all the grunt work so the whole matter is the least intrusive matter in your busy schedule. I highly recommend anyone who needs repairs to any vehicle to definitely check them out, you'll be glad you did. read more

This was quite simply one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I dropped my car off as I headed off for holidays for a week which they thought was perfect as it gave them a chance to schedule accordingly. My Jag was surging somewhat, needed new rear brakes, and the check engine light was on. I informed them that I just had an oil change so no need for that. No problem they said as they gave me a tour of the facility - not something I asked for or needed but thoughtful nevertheless. I spoke directly to the mechanic and explained what was happening and I just wanted the surging to go away, replace the brakes, and to check the computer on what fault the check engine light was for - although it had been intermittently on and off so I wasn't really worried. I was told the brakes would be around $500. Before I left they asked for my credit card to put down a $1000 deposit but would refund anything if it was less - warning bells should have been going off but my ride was waiting and I gave in. Big mistake. When I got back, I was presented a bill of over $1600 plus tax. Looking did do the brakes as expected, some checks of various components, some fluids, a full tune up including new plugs ($200 alone) which was fine, and roughly another $100 in oil for an oil change. Now I should have argued about the oil change as I just had it done and had told them as such but after once again getting a ride to pick it up and being without wheels I just paid it. On the way home I noticed that there was a small crack that started at the very bottom of the windshield that was not there before. It was barely noticable as it had just risen beyond the blacked out edge at the bottom of the shield. Immediately upon seeing it I called from the car back to the shop and told them what had happened. Once I got home I immediately took pictures of the crack and forwarded them in an email to the shop. I also noted that the windshield was marked as "no cracks" on the inspection that the shop had done. Within days the crack spread across the windshield. It took a couple of weeks before I was able to stop in but when I did the shop owner had the owner of a local glass install shop to come by and look. He agreed that the way the crack had started - down below the hood line at the base - had to have come from a sharp blow of some sort (ie. not a rock chip or anything from the road). So what conclusion would any reasonable person come up with other than something obviously hit the windshield while work was being done on the car. But would the owner take responsibility, absolutely not. As someone who has run many businesses, I know that one of the first rules is that you have to live up to your own mistakes. British Auto Specialists certainly don't live by the same mantra. read more
