I visited this place yesterday with my husband. I have heard about the Bristol Tap before, but despite living in Oswego for my whole life, I have never ventured over to try it before. I have to say it was a okay experience. It is a little hard to see unless you know where you are going because it's back further from the road, and only has a very small sign. The door has a hand written sign that says no babies or small children. Which is okay because it's a bar, you don't really expect babies here anyway right? It's kind of dark inside. They have very dark curtains up. It wouldn't hurt to turn a light on. When we walked out it took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust to the noon sun. We ordered 2 burgers and 2 cokes. The burger is HUGE. it comes with pickles, tomato, lettuce, and onion on the side. All toppings are fresh and crisp. The chips were good. Overall, it was fine. Not mind-blowing as I have been lead to believe, but certainly not bad. The price is perfect though. I would go back. read more

Okay, I balked at going here, told my hubby it looked like a dive bar. Nope. However, it is a local hangout, but go for the burgers! Grill is right there, you can watch your burger sizzle! Go hungry. Cold beer and free popcorn while you wait. And you will wait for your food, it takes time to cook that huge hunk of meat! I had the bacon cheesburger, and it was cooked perfectly. Juicy pink in the middle, yum! The bar is local, wait staff is pleasant (they're busy at dinner time) BUT they only take cash, no credit or debit cards! I have been going to this plays for years, before the new building and always had a great burger, but haven't been back for over a year. I had been telling a friend about the great burgers, so we went there yesterday. WOW....what an absolute disappointment. The bar maid who took our order was very rude. When we asked her what kind of cheese for the burger, she replied "yellow or white." We asked again what flavor the cheese was, and again she replied "yellow or white and that's it." We ordered both cheeseburgers with WHITE cheese and medium rare. As we watched this. As we observed "Joe" grill the burgers with his bare large belly hang over his pants we became doubtful of what we were going to be served. When Joe flopped the basket with the burgers in front of us we were hungry and looking forward to this large burger which I had always enjoyed in the past. WRONG!!!! one burger was medium rare and one well done. When we told Joe this his reply was "what do you want me to do, make another, take it back or call the girl that took the order wrong." Best hamburger on the planet. It tastes like the first truly great hamburger you ever had in your life. This is not a place for small children or babies and it's definitely a bar. I have enjoyed Britol's burgers since I was like 10. I used to live near Bristol and my parents would get loaded while we ate burgers, and then they would do some drunk driving...... with us in the car! FUN! Anyways this place used to be in another location in Bristol, but they built a new one no to far from the old one(but the new one doesn't have the condom machine in the bathroom). Delicious hand-packed burgers and Busch Lite on tap? Don't mind if I do! I also love that they discourage bringing in young children because the local watering hole is no place to bring them anyways. One of the best burgers anywhere. I'll keep it simple: Divey, cash only. There is NO deep fryer so you get chips with your delicious burger. Bar has a large selection of beer, and some TV's. A jukebox plays as the local sports can be found on TV. It's clean, and the burgers are cooked on Joe's original grill from the old location. Burgers take a while to cook, and can take up to 45 minutes to get when it's busy.....but it's worth it. This is one of those places you have to try once....bring cash, and some patience and you will walk out with a smile. read more

Great burgers, cheap beer, fun people. What more can you ask for? I was nervous going into a local pub after my experience at some others but the people were warm and friendly. The burgers were top notch and huge and I love the grilled cheese during Lent. This is a great place - especially if you want to watch a Cubs game or even a Bears game. Finally, I guess I don't understand why people can't read the "order here" sign at the middle of the bar. Don't complain when there is signage telling you not to sit and wait for 20 minutes when there are no waiters or waitresses in sight. It took me about 2 minutes to figure this out because I can read. :) read more

The Bristol Tap is my kind of place. And ... yes .. the thick burgers are terrific. Even though they are cooked all the way through, they are juicy and flavorful. I don't know how they do it. The fact that no children are allowed in there is a plus for me and those I meet there. Great, COLD, normal beer selection is also a draw for me. Finally, you won't find a friendlier place. I need to go there more often and bring more friends. Don't change anything! read more

After being told by a Bristol Tap fanatic that this place was a must try I decided on a minus -56 degree to make the short trek for lunch. I told my wife to prepare her taste buds for one of the best burgers in town. I set my navigation and off we went. Its a good thing I set it because there is no signage or anything else to tell you that your at the bar/restaurant, My wife's initial comment was are you kidding me when she realized I was pulling into my lunch choice but I nervously told her that I was confident we would leave happy. Once passing the No Children sign on the door we entered a dimly lit, VFW style hall with a bar and about 10 tables. You order at the bar and you can have free popcorn while you wait. We ordered 2 burgers, a chili and 2 cokes. The chili was good, definitely homemade, not over chili powdered, with a lone slice of American cheese on top. The burgers were 1/2 pound on a good bun with all the basic fixings but as others have mentioned lacked seasoning of any kind. The beef tasted good but it was very bland. It was close to well done but mine was not dry. My wife said it was good but I did not hear the kind of raving I would expect about "The Best" The bill was only $23 for everything. The place had a fair amount of customers and everyone was having a good time but to this diner the best burger is located elsewhere. I will be back if I am in the area though. read more

Very disappointed!!! My husband and I took my brother inlaw after his chemotherapy for a burger which they refused us food because we had my 7 yr old ..... They have a sign that says no small children so does that mean under 18? Under 16? Under 10? Under 5? Would not even let us order food to go!!!! This is a tavern kind of joint except for one thing....they make some very good hamburgers. These burgers are so thick and tasty that they take at least twenty minutes to grill. Get them with all the fixin's, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. they come with chips and cold beer, of course! Ver, very, good! read more

This place would get 5 stars if they had the option of fries with the sandwich and that the chips that you do get aren't underneath all the garnishes and getting soggy. Also the service could've been better for sitting at a table, as u don't c the bartender coming out to check on any of them just worried about the people sitting at the bar. She was very nice tho once we did sit at the bar. The burger itself I enjoyed it was very thick and flavorful if I did come back it would be just for that. Pretty straight forward place...you go to the bar to order their amazing burgers and cheap beer. It's local and comfy and everyone knows everyone. It's a great place to hang out and watch games and munch on the provided popcorn. Also, they have a fantastic turkey raffle the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Get their and I mean early 6 a.m. ish if you want to find a parking spot. They provide breakfast and lunch you buy raffle tickets for $ and meat which helps fund a local team in the area. Weak menu. I had a bourbon, which I had to return 3 times because there were fruit flies in the bottom of my glass. The 3 Rd time I brought it to bartenders attention in was given a free drink token. " yeah like I'm gonna come back for a free insect infested bourbon"! Wtf people? Ever heard of minimum cleanliness? Do you ever watch bar rescue? A simple plastic wrap on each quick pour nozzle would solve this problem. Everyone raves about the burgers there. They were just ok, but if you can't protect your bourbon from bugs imagine what the meat is like. Will not be going back to redeem my free drink token. Thanks anyway Joe. Ten years I've known about Bristol Tap. Never thought it was the right time to go. Went for a saturday lunch, and let me tell you: I wish I could go back in time and kick myself right in the badoingas for all the times I've gone to Five Guys, or Smashburger, or (God forbid) McDonalds. What you get: A freshly made MASSIVE burger. Thick cut tomatoes, generous white onion, and delicious, salty and melty American cheese really came together well. This burger does not pretend to be anything other than a burger. There is no artisinal guacamole, no Himalayan Pink Salt. This is a BURGER, and should be considered as such. I am a big fat man with an enormous appetite. One burger is enough for anyone. As for my wife, she struggled to get that far. I ate the HELL out of it. And then, I finished hers...barely. Later, I burped, and ENJOYED IT. Two burgers, four drinks, $27 out the door. You're "not having it?" I'll have yours. read more
