There were many positives about life at Mercer Hill. Beth Lynn, Activities Director and McKenna Kingsbaue, Associate Activities Director are amazing. They treat the residents with respect and compassion. They work hard to plan trips and activities that will interest the residents and my Mom loved both women. Unfortunately, my Mother fell ill in December and was placed on Hospice in January. All my Mother wanted was to be at home in her final days so I arranged with hospice to have her brought to HER home in Mercer Hill. However, instead of being met with concern and compassion I was met by Daniel Thompson, Guest Services Director with attempts to block my Mother from being in her own home in her final days. While still getting my Mother settled into her bed and hospice arranging care, Daniel came up to my Mother's room to confront me about bringing her back to her apartment insisting that they have never had anyone on hospice on the Independent Side. (so the obvious concern was that Mercer Hill would not be profiting off my mother's last days). I explained to Dan that I had arranged all of my own care and that Mercer Hill would have no responsibilities and as she is on the Independent side this fits with the message that Dan consistently delivers to the residents stating that residents on the independent living side must care for themselves despite their own website stating differently. When I let Dan know that my Mother and I would not be leaving and informed him that I would sue if necessary he stood 10 feet from my dying mother and laughed. As I pushed back on Dan, letting him know that I intended to grant my Mother's wish to die at home he informed me that he would need to speak with Debra Bodner the General Manager and ran off downstairs. At no point during this brief and unsettling conversation did Dan ever ask about my Mother, express concern for the fact that she was on hospice and clearly ill or even ask how I was doing under the circumstance. When Dan returned 30 minutes later with Beth Lynn the Activities Director Dan still expressed no compassion or concern for the situation and very haughtily stated that "she can stay as long as she has 24 hour care". When I confronted Dan about his attitude and the fact that he had the indecency to laugh at me while my Mother lay dying he again began to laugh and told me that he brought Beth with him to show compassion. Let me remind you, Daniel Thompson is the Guest Services Director. His job is to take care of the residents, listen to their concerns and address them as necessary. Dan is never out among the residents, he shows no interest in the residents or their well being. Shortly after my Mother's death, while speaking with one of my Mother's friends, Dan walked by and the friend referred to him as the biggest Dead Wood at Mercer Hill and stated that he is worthless. After learning how my Mother and I were treated in her final days, many residents complained to me that neither Dan nor Debra had any concern for the residents and that if complaints were made by the residents they were summarily ignored by Dan and Debra. An experience I had myself when talking to both after Debra raised my Mother's rent $500 per month (a 40% rent increase) on her first anniversary. Debra Bodner, as the General Manager showed absolutely no empathy for the fact that the residents lived on a fixed income and that a 40% rent increase was in fact cruel and unethical. It concerns me that Dan and Debra are running Mercer Hill as I have seen many negative affects from their obvious lack of concern for the residents and hope that the owners of Mercer Hill realize that a community with many wonderful features is slowly being destroyed by the very people whose job it is to care for and protect the residents, Daniel Thompson and Debra Bodner.

In the beginning I was in real crisis - stopped work, couldn't walk around the block, sleep or really function at all for the first year before I was diagnosed. At that time they were very kind to me. There was one therapist I didn't want to work with as I was in intolerable pain during the session and for days afterwards, but I was fine working with the other three wonderful therapists. Then one left and another stopped coming in as much. I still felt very comfortable seeing the one who was still working and for the past year I've happily seen him for my sessions with no problem that I was aware of. Yesterday one of the owners (Kim) was in the office - I didn't recognize her so I guess she's not in much when I have been. I saw that the July schedule was open and asked if I could make my July appointments. She said that she wouldn't schedule me as I wasn't following their rules despite being "talked to about it before". Her tone was really rude. I haven't been talked to about it at all and thought it was fine for me to see the therapist I was comfortable with. No-one has ever mentioned an issue when I've made appointments before and staff are usually very pleasant. Kim sounded utterly disgusted with me and I guess wanted to be sure that I knew how she felt about me. It was a shock as I had no idea who she was and I don't think (?) I've spoken to her in the past couple of years. I'm still giving the practice 3 stars because I really do think they can be great, and I've seen good improvement on my health. I'm just really sad that she was so rude to me yesterday. Maybe she was having a bad day and wanted to flex her muscles at my expense? Kim has apparently given a conflicting version of what happened - but there was a young girl sitting at the front desk who must have heard most of it. I would say go to this practice and hope that you don't get on the wrong side of Kim. Now I am stopping PT cold turkey until I can find somewhere else to go. It's a disappointing end as I have recommended them so many times over the past two years. I still do, just with caveats. Kim can be seriously mean without warning and I was quite upset when I left.

Unfortunately in our experience, Adam Boxman was unprofessional, unethical and put his needs above his clients. On 3/15/21, Adam reached out about a new listing, and that evening, we told him we were interested in seeing the home. On 3/16/21, he spoke with us about the listing and scheduled a viewing for that Friday. My husband provided him with a general idea of the price we would be willing to offer on this home. On 3/17/21, Adam sent us the official listing and called to speak with us about it. I expressed my excitement and emotion over finding our dream home. He confirmed our house showing on Friday. I requested the disclosure form for the home, which Adam promptly sent. On 3/18/21, Adam called to inform us that he would be purchasing this home for his family. He attempted to justify this decision, with one of the reasons being that our offer may not have been chosen anyway. Adam assured us that he would work harder than ever to help us find the home that is right for us. After we spoke, the online listing almost immediately changed from "For Sale" to "Pending." We sent him an email informing him of our decision to work with a different realtor who had our best interests in mind. Adam made multiple attempts to "make things right", but it was important for us to work with an agent that has a "fiduciary duty of utmost care, integrity, honesty, and loyalty in dealing with the agent principle." Adam has the absolute right to purchase a home, however, his approach to this situation was both unprofessional and unethical. If he indicated from the outset that he was also interested in the home and referred us to another realtor to mitigate any conflict of interest, then there would not have been an issue. However, he contacted us after he had cemented an agreement with the seller's agent and/or homeowner. It was very apparent his own self-interest was placed ahead of ours. It is also shocking that after this experience, he would still expect us to want to work with him and pay him a commission. While I do believe (and hope) this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I feel it is important to share my experience with others contemplating which realtor they would like to work with during such an important and costly decision of purchasing a home.

Night 1: the company called 30 minutes before arrival and stated they couldn't come. Nights 2, 3, and 4: Caregiver arrived but didn't have the skills that I required and contracted for. Night 5: the company called 20 minutes AFTER the scheduled arrival time, stating that they couldn't come. Bottom line is that they did not meet their contractual obligations by 40% (not counting the lack of contracted skill level of the caregivers) but they expect me to meet my contractual obligation by paying 100% of the bill. That is unacceptable. The company is aware of my dissatisfaction.

Agree with the other assessments below, from what my mother and other people who have seen the place are saying. There is no communication with the hospital regarding medications, you cannot find a nurse or doctor to talk to, the medicine she was on and needed to still be on for UTI was stopped...she cannot seem to get it started again... yet she is not being attended to with regard to hygiene, and the need to be helped to the bathroom. When I spoke with her this morning (I am out of state at the moment), she was looking around for towels within reach to put underneath her because they didn't answer any calls to help her to the bathroom! Are they too busy? She said she sees on them out there watching sports on TV? I guess on break, but (!). Very old facilities inside (not updated anytime recently) and she says it smells bad. She says the staff are not very kind to her (in addition to the neglect over the hygiene issue - they might be burnt out and understaffed, that is my guess - but she seems intimidated at their "resentment of the patients"-type attitudes and glaring). She is not a high-maintenance person/Karen-type demanding person. Just having some mobility and UTI/urgency issues after surgery. My guess is that it has gone downhill since the review in 2009 (13 years can make a big difference in the state of a building). Looking forward to getting her out of here.
