We came in with a group of 10 in our party. The decor and ambience inside were awesome. We were seated outside and the music, service and experience was incredible. I was with a group of mostly guys for a work dinner and this place was a hit with everyone. We ordered several platters and sides and it was more than enough for everyone. The food was so good. Everything was cooked to perfection. From the different sauces to the variety of meat and the flavors that they were able to get were so good. The Mac n cheese was one of our sides that was a favorite of everyone's. They also had a great cocktail list. The gin and tonics were so good. They also had a good wine selection and other great specialty cocktails. The prices were also good for what we got. We are all still dreaming about this place and I love that being in Switzerland we ate at one of the best bbq restaurants we have ever been to. Amazing!! read more

As Americans we have to say this stood out among all the restaurants we visited on our trip. It's not exactly the taste of TX BBQ but outstanding and unique twists on all the faves. Horseradish coleslaw is delicious, the Caroline bbq and their hot sauce with the nachos are exceptional. Drinks were also fresh and strong 'say anything' you will! A fun and unexpected gem of a restaurant in Zurich West. Judging by the fullness of the place, it must be one of the most popular in the area. The staff really hustles to provide good service. I love BBQ! I've had it in Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, Arkansas and many other places. I've had all types and even tried my hand with my own smoker. I went to Brisket with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I did not expect good bbq in Switzerland. It was surprisingly good, but don't get too excited, it wasn't great. Before I start getting picky, I will start out with the fact that if I were in Zurich again I'd probably go here again. It really is a three star place but gets an extra star for being a long way from the South and still putting together a really good product. I give two thumbs up for the quality of the meat. The brisket was lean and still fairly moist as opposed to the "wet" which is my usual go to in the South. The sausage was good but lacked flavor. It is probably German or Swiss made do that's Ok. The casing was so hard I couldn't stab it with my fork and penetrate the skin. So, I just dug out the meat as I didn't want my bowels to try and digest something that tough. The meat had a little zing but very little flavor. The pork ribs were almost perfectly cooked and fell off the bone. But ribs should be tender and stay on the bone. The meat should still be a little firm. The restaurant had the smell of smoke but the meat didn't really have that smoked flavor. Looking at the ribs and the brisket there was only a faint hint of a smoke ring, very faint. Good bbq has a nice smoke ring that is plainly visible but this meat didn't. Before leaving I asked what type of wood they used, remember we are in Switzerland not Texas. They used Beech, Pear, and Apple. There is no substitute for Mesquite and Hickory but those are two woods that are not grown in Switzerland. Given the distance from Texas and the rest of the South, this place did a pretty darn good job. Like I wrote in the beginning, this place isn't great but if you want a taste of home you will enjoy this place. But, one last caveat. Bring you wallet full as the prices in Switzerland are extremely high. Expect to pay 2 1/2 what you would at home, but prices are high everywhere in Switzerland. read more

Great place for a group dinner. The place gets pretty busy so be sure to make a reservation on a weekend. It's typical american bbq fare, but all very good. You can mix all the different meats or order a combo that brings everything. The sides are ok: mac and cheese, coleslaw, beans, pickles, etc... I recommend getting the brisket and some of the sausage. They have 3 different types of bbq sauce, try all of them and stick to the one you like most. read more

Holy moly! Looking for some yummy BBQ this side of the pond? Check out Brisket! My husband and I had the Texas Triangle (smoked brisket, shredded chicken, and pulled pork). The hubs added a sausage link. Sides included baked beans and Mac n'cheese - small up fee. Chicken was a bit dry but the BRISKET was awesome!! And the pulled pork...EXCELLENT. Great place to go with your friends, they have a lot of tables for big groups. The restaurant teleports you out of Zurich to an American Southern smoke house, I didn't feel like I was in Zurich at all. One more plus, the service was fast and super friendly! PROTIP: If you're going on a Friday night, make sure to get reservations online! We booked it the morning of Friday and there were still tables. When we were there, we saw so many people get turned down or had to wait for an hour or two. Food wise, prices are decent for what you're getting and for Zurich prices. They have a lot of combos that you can pick from, but I would recommend just getting the various meats by the 100g, the price isn't a big difference from the combos that they have. Pork belly, pulled pork and brisket were all delicious! Cole slaw was also great! You can make your own pulled pork sandwich with the bread, pulled pork, and cole slaw. Meat was great and like someone said, they give you generous portion for food and beer. My beer came with more than 0.5 L line (other places will give Exactly the line filled beer). The server made mistake by giving us coleslaw instead of our order potato salad and when we asked about it, she apologized and replaced the coleslaw with potato salad. But then she charged us additional 6 CHF for coleslaw. I couldn't believe it. I didn't pay attention to the receipt so I noticed it when I was home and didn't want to go back all the way to get 6 CHF. Suggestion: check your receipt carefully if you care additional charge. read more

What? BBQ here in Zurich? I saw flashbacks of home sweet home food... But that didn't happen. I tried a few times the assortment of menu items. You name it, we had it, the beauty of big parties. The things we agreed were: - Brisket tasted like it was gas cooked. Ok so many good BBQs can be cooked on gas grill. But we were able to taste a hint of lingering gas taste... But again we are food addicts so we have very discreet taste. - Meat was not juicy. Not exactly dry either but it didn't savor with juice and succulence. - The "special" house sauces. I love the various names they have, but all the sauces were mild, meh and nothing to write home about. Very forgettable. - Service was not the most attentive but when they do attend, they were nice. - The Red Velvet cake with ice cream, it was in the form of an ice cream cake. I'm used to my Red Velvets nice and moist. This one was sure not. A pass. Hopefully overtime they will improve as I want to like this place! We came on day 2: Wings came crispy on outside and juicy on the inside. You could tell the sauce was just put on before being served which kept them so crisp. We got medium which was a real medium. Next we have a mix platter with brisket, pork belly and pulled pork. The pulled pork was "pulled" off the bone but not pulled into little pieces. It was tender. The brisket was very good quality and cooked well. Not to much seasoning which I kinda liked. They give you 3 sauces to put on yourself. First was a great tomato based sauce tangy with chunks. Next was a vinegar sauce which lighted up the meal. Last is what I would call a fancy honey mustard sauce. The interior is really nice and cool. Sometimes hard to find that in Switzerland. My one wish is the make an appetizer portion of the wings. read more

The grand opening party was great!! I managed to organize a few friends and attend this party not knowing what to expect. As always being early I managed to be the first to walk through the main door revealing a modern down south vibe. Finding my way to the bar with plenty of guided help from staff and being informed how things where going to open today. Grabbed a makers/ginger ale and found an open table. Within no time the waiting staff dropped off some dip and chips which was amazing. (Sweet beans with with chunks of brisket in a BBQ molasses sauce). Next we went up to the sampling tables and tested out the pull pork, brisket, sweet pickled gherkins, smoked sausage absolutely mouth watering. Top score from me! brought me right back to some great BBQ like home in the States. Looking forward to trying out the Resturant one of a kind in Zurich. read more

Being from Texas I'm always on the lookout for great BBQ. The brisket here might be THE MOST tender I've ever had (sorry mom)! Great find!!

As a Texan who's been missing her BBQ, when restaurants reopened I decided to try the place everyone kept telling me about. Here's why I give it 4 and not 5 stars (so close). We started with the "nachos" - they're more like a pile of chips with melted cheese and a pile of sour cream and guava on top. In typical non-Tex-Mex fashion, the distribution of ingredients was only on the top layer. It was good, but I wished they would've used a larger dish so that those sad chips at the bottom would have sums toppings! The guac was authentic and you could see chunks of avocado in it! We then got the Texas Triangle - shredded chicken, brisket and pulled pork - with Mac'n'cheese, beans and fries as sides. I also got a sausage because I loved smoked sausage. This is where they lost a star. The pulled pork and brisket were very authentic, as was the sausage, but the chicken was frankly ruined with what I can only describe as a curry sauce. THIS IS NOT TEXAS BBQ!!! I had to douse it in bbq sauce to make it edible (as did my non Texan dinner mates). Anyone who knows good bbq knows that if you have to add sauce, it ain't good. They were soooooo close to totally wowing this Texan... In any case, I'll go back but will never touch the chicken. Honestly if they just served smoked chicken whole, like it's done in Texas, it would've been amazing and they would've gotten 5 stars. Oh they also have Shiner! read more

This is very good American BBQ in Switzerland -- owned by the same people as Yardbird (great fried chicken). The place is much bigger than I expected, and was pretty full at lunch (and likely even more so at dinner), and after trying the food, I can see why. Brisket (lunch plate) was excellent, and the sauces were as well. I also ordered chili con carne from the dinner menu, served on 3 tortillas, and that was also very flavorful. There's definitely a premium price due to being in Switzerland, but it was a good deal compared to other restaurants in Zurich, and would be a popular restaurant in the US as well. read more

I don't think Zurich is yet ready for "juicy" brisket, or the local cows just don't come as fatty, but compared to BBQ in the US, I found my brisket to be on the dry side, but the taste was great ! As a main dish we took one of the meat plates for two. At first we thought that it's not that much meat at all, but in the end it was a decent amount. One day, Amber was browsing Tumblr when she saw roundtrip tickets from NYC/JFK to London for under 500 bucks. We did not have any plans to go to Europe at that point but that all changed in 30 minutes. The Smoking Ho is going international! I am only allowed one BBQ stop per trip. I picked The Beast in Paris which you can read about next time. Our friends, who used to live in Austin, that live in Bern, Switzerland chose the place for us to eat at dinner. They selected a barbecue restaurant in Zurich. Yes! A loophole. I told the husband months ago about it. Planting the seed... They picked us up at airport after our flight landed from London, and we headed straight to Brisket Southern BBQ & Bar. Parking is located above the restaurant which we missed (we paid for public parking). The interior space of the restaurant was very dimly lit and had a refine feel to it. Shiner Bock was on the drink menu so I had to get one. A little piece of home 5,000 miles away. There were quite a few choices on the dinner menu. I wanted to order The Holy Trinity at the very least, but they were out of the beef sausage. There was a minimum order of two people per platter. I thought this was weird. I wanted to try everything so I felt a little constricted. The guys ordered the Lone Star which came with brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly. The ladies got a platter that came with brisket, pork ribs, and shredded chicken. We got two orders of the macaroni and cheese, sweet potato and pumpkin gratin, and BBQ beans as sides on the platters. The meats are smoked using peach and pear woods. The coffee and black pepper brisket was surprisingly good. It was tender and had enough smoke to my liking. The meat had a good flavor. The pork ribs were really thick and meaty but also really fatty. I am not sure where they got the cut from. I feel like the butcher left on too much of the belly. It tasted fine but with the extra fat, it was too rich for my taste. The pulled pork came heavy sauced. I liked it okay, but the meat did not have a chance to shine through. A sloppy mess. Similar to eating chopped beef. The shredded chicken was very different. It reminded me of fajita meat. The texture and taste was not what I was expecting. The pork belly was great. It was tasty and smoky. If I was not so full, I would have eaten all of it. Disclaimer: I was not used to eating this much meat since we left the states. I enjoyed the macaroni and cheese and the sweet potato and pumpkin gratin. The BBQ beans were just meh. Brisket Southern BBQ & Bar had some strengths and weaknesses. The strengths outweighed the weaknesses here. If you are an ex-pat living in Switzerland or traveling through Zurich, make a stop here. The brisket lived up to its namesake. I came for the opening night and will definitely be back another time for more! The food was GREAT - the brisket was tender (and most importantly, not dry), the sausage was soft and nicely-spiced, the ribs were tasty... Everything was delicious. I'm only sorry I didn't get seconds - there was quite a crowd by that time, and my colleagues and I decided to forego standing in line. We were also disappointed that one of their drinks, listed on the opposite wall of the bar, was not available that day, but their Makers & Ginger was really good! read more

Great BBQ and although I opt for beer and wine here, there's always lots of cocktail options. It's a big place and often accommodates large groups of people. One night I went there was an artist working on some of his pieces while a DJ spun some tunes which was interesting. I've always sat in the back area but I think both areas have rear vibes and the food is great! You will leave here absolutely stuffed. I'm not a big fan of pulled pork but it's done well here. The brisket and pulled pork are very fatty but delicious. The ribs and coleslaw are solid. The sauces are ok; I think one is mustard-based and the South Carolina is my favorite (watery but it has a kick to it). The third sauce is a sweet BBQ that doesn't do much for me. The beans are great as a side and comes w chunks of pork. The salad is also solid (although not worth 6 CHF), the sweet potato gratin is ok but the mac n cheese was not (I like it creamier and more Al dente than having hardened cheese on over cooked pasta). I did not like the chicken, not sure what style it's cooked in but the flavors were just not there. I would also suggest passing on the sausage, nothing special there. read more

Ok. So I'm a American businessman who travels extensively for my work. I have many investments and interest areas including culinary and wellness. So I know good food, chefs, authentic cuisine including from the various BBQ areas of the US (Carolinas, Texas, Southern US, etc.). I found Brisket the 1st time around on a Sunday walking from Zurich City Center out to Technopark and Design Museum (to get to know Zurich a bit better by foot). It was unfortunately closed (or just not open yet as it was more than 1 month ago). I took note to try to stop in when open and was able to do so last night. First impression is the space, large, nice design, tables out front but I also saw the patio in back and decided to eat there. Then the fun surprise (for me). Using the men's room prior to my meeting the detail on it's design (and themes) I found warm and engaging from a social/cultural perspective. There is a use of great nostalgia of US pop culture that I felt could only come from the owners. Classic photos of great hockey players (Bobby Orr, Ron Hextall, many others) so I felt that somebody of the restaurant must like hockey (greatest sport ever !). Also Run DMC and others were well represented. A real "Americana" feel that didn't seemed forced. Authenticity is key to creating great consumer experiences and attention to detail (even in design of the bathroom environment) was a great harbinger of what I felt would be a good meal. So I asked at the bar "is the owner here" and was introduced to Thomas (von Matt). Super guy and yes, he's a former hockey player (along with his brother who is a fellow goalie). I checked out the bar's offerings, great mescal, American bourbon and other drinks. Perfect. Settling in on the patio, I had the drink special (flavored form of a Moscow Mule with fresh herbs) and ordered the brisket with a side of Mac & Cheese. Everything was properly done. It's very hard (if not impossible in Europe) to get butchers to give chefs the proper cut of beef to make a real brisket. I know chefs in Paris who have been working for years to get their suppliers to give them what they want so kudos to the von Matt's for getting the supply chain right. Overall a really nice place that I hope does well and gets the volume that the large space can handle. Not just a fan of the food but appreciate great entrepreneurs who work hard to make fun places to go, I'm a new-found fan of the von Matt's and will support these fellow hockey players and food entrepreneurs with repeat visit. This place is amazing. We had a big group so tried everything on the main menu ( not the vegi of course). Thumbs up for the pulled pork, brisket and wings, so juicy smoky and flavorful. For sides, def get the Mac and cheese again. This is definitely a place to cure your homesickness for southern bbq. Excellent BBQ - (coming from the US and have travelled to Kansas and Dallas and I smoke meat myself). Very Flavorful, nice smoke ring. I can't tell exactly what wood they use but the meat tasted great. Brisket melts in your mouth and ribs were cooked perfectly. Nice sauce on the pulled pork and sides were fine.Staff is great, helpful and kept on top of everything. We were a party of 10 and popped in without reservation. Cool atmosphere, cool and friendly service, cool drinks-- especially nice home made Lemonade!! highly recommend the pork belly-- melt in your mouth delicious! Unfortunately we were not impressed with the brisket or pulled pork--- I would hesitate to qualify this as southern style bar b q :/ of course we are biased because we are from Texas-- but this does not even come close- no flavor, not juicy, just... not.. good...in my opinion at least.
