We're from California traveling from Texas today, and we had such a long day traveling from Longview. We were so hungry and wanted something special as a family 3 cars full of us and saw the brisket house and stopped. The crew working was so professional and kind. We did enter 15min prior to close and really wanted to try their menu items. They were awesome. We were greeting right when we came in. We purchased the deluxe family feast. Ok to start off with, I've been eating at this establishment for years. However tonight was bad enough i will never grace their doorway again! The service was the worst I've ever seen. I had "All you can eat buffet" and guess what, it's not actually all you can eat! When my family and I get there it was pretty busy. We all fixed our plates from the buffet (1st round). As we are eating, people keep coming in. I went back to the buffet for a bowl of rice and gumbo. There wasn't any rice left. The lady serving tells me she doesn't think they can make more, but she'll go ask to make sure. I made the comment to her surely they can make more for an all you can eat buffet. She said, I don't know, but then she looked at me as if to say "not really". I patiently wait for her return and see, in the back, the workers are giving her a hard time. People throwing their hands in the air, as if saying "oh well". The lady returns and profusely apologizes, telling me they cant make any more rice. I told the lady it wasnt her fault, she didnt need to apologize. At this point, some young girl, appearing to be a teenager, starts yelling across the restaurant to me, telling me they can't make any more. I just looked at the lady serving the buffet and began to let her know that I was not only upset that I couldn't have what I wanted from their buffet, but people that are steadily coming in now can't have it either. She understood and agreed. I went back to my table. As I am letting my family know what just happened, the young girl comes to my table to explain. This is where it all goes down hill... She proceeded to explain that they made two batches of rice and simply could not make any more, because if it wasn't all eaten before they closed (in two hours), that they would have to throw it away, and that would be wasteful. My family and I tried to explain to her that the rice was a staple of the all-you-can-eat buffet. And that two of the dishes on the buffet (gumbo, and red beans & rice), require it to complete the dish. She kept interrupting and told us that they had been very busy tonight. So we pointed out to her that they still had customers coming in and still had hours before closing, so surely that was reason eough to make more rice. This girl then laughingly and shockingly said "we're just a restaurant." At which point we all looked at each other and said "exactly!" At no point did she ever try to understand anything from the customer's point of view. She only tried to explain a non-sensical decision not to make more rice for the buffet. After the "we're just a restaurant" comment she made, I told her to just stop trying to explain things because she was just making it worse. She then aggressively turned away and stated loudly as she walked away "I'm sorry I can't give you a refund for the rice you couldn't get." I would hope that she wasn't the restaurant's manager, but no one else ever came over after that obviously loud and dramatic confrontation that just occurred. I was later told the manager was there, and seen discussing the situation with her while I was still there. I saw it as cowardly and unprofessional that the manager did not address the situation with me. After obviously witnessing the entire thing. The customer should always at the very least feel heard and be given an opportunity for resolution, even if only as a path forward, for future patronage. Side Note: If you can't refrigerate, what's more cost effective to throw away? Rice? Or Gumbo and Red beans? Hummmm food for thought. Oh and let's all remember, this is a restaurant! They cant be bothered with rice, like all the fast food joints! read more

They close very early so don't think about getting dinner there. The food is very good. The service is not really good. The environment is not very clean. I would choose some other restaurants before but it's overall okay. read more

Driving through, and asked for directions. Asked the local sheriff in town and he stated our destination is passed the "brisket house". I don't think I've ever heard someone tell me directions by using land marks rather than street names. But I guess when you're in a small town that's what you do. Needless to say we did miss it. Turned around, and it was next to a burger shop. Googled it and it showed it having a red roof. I knew then I was at the right spot. I'd come back again, and try their ribs and other sides they had to offer. Everything else we had; brisket, chicken, sausage, fried okra was good. I had 2 hours for lunch the other day, and headed there after court. The buffet ($12 I think) is completely, and totally worth it. Good ole Southern food with fried chicken, fried catfish, cornbread, huge wedges, peach cobbler, banana pudding, okra, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, rice, a huge salad section, etc. I had 2 full plates of mostly catfish, and other stuff. Next time I'll have the chicken. 100% recommended if in the area. read more

Not sure how this place was going to be when we pulled up. Was pleasantly surprised. We came on a Sunday during lunch and a buffet was being served. Hands down one of the best buffet style lunches I have ever eaten in my life. I had some of most everything and it was all amazing. The brisket was surprisingly soft and tender. It had a great smoke flavor as well. The mashed potatoes were expertly done and I topped them with beef tips and gravy. Superb. I had some of the Mac and cheese as well and it was fantastic. Not too creamy yet not dried out as some can get. The tea was just the right sweetness to my taste. McDonald's teas is super sweet to me as a reference. The banana pudding was ok. All in all not bad. I did notice a lack of rolls. But I wasn't really concerned with that. Great place all in all. read more

Best I've had since Texas. Arkansas rub & Memphis BBQ ain't far behind but their smoked brisket here is as good as the Texan classic! Let me tell you the story of the time karate saved my life at the one and only Brisket House. Set the scene. It's early evening, I'm famished. I just got off work. It's mid August in LaSalle parish and boy you know it's hotter than Avery Michaels' chaffed thighs after Howdy Neighbor Day. I been working all day with my good buddy, the captain of smash. I said John, let's go get us some brisket house, I could do for some of Gerald Mitchells famous crab cake. So we show up & everything is going good. Staff is friendly, except for this tall feller who kept telling us his name is Dr Love. He offered us some love potion and the captain and I were a little confused at first. He says "trust me, you'll willy love it". Eventually he let us be. We get us some them crab cakes and they sure did live up to the hype. Everything's great, got me some good food with my best good buddy john. And it's Friday evening, which means the highly anticipated Sonic Standoff is about to go down. We was pumped. To give you some insight, the standoff is where the guys with big trucks in Jena go to rack their pipes. Loudest truck wins. Jena's finest. Well me and john ordered us a diet coke and a waitress with great breasts came and brought us our drinks. We take a sip and i be damned if it aint regular coke. I said "hey girl, i asked for diet. Im watching my figure" she said. "We all out of diet, Nathan jones came and drank it all up." Then out of nowhere, some dudes in black suits come in and tell everyone to get down on the floor. I said, yeah right, they aint about to rob my dinner. So i stood up, but turns out they had machetes. I said "john, we gotta do something" The captain looked at me and said "This is my time" The captain of smash gets up and proceeds to karate his way through the whole place. He's throwing judy chops left and right. I think he severed some mans brain stem. They try to cut him into pieces, it was their last resort. But alas, no weapon of man can harm the warrior who has the power of God and Anime on his side. So John is just karate chopping everything and i see that he has beaten his foes and is about to karate the place to the ground. Sometimes the captain doesn't know his own strength. At this point, my fellow restaurant patrons are more scared of him then anything. I see what i need to do. I run full speed ahead just like Naruto taught me and tackle him to the ground. I get on top of him and hold each arm down with my hands. I look the Captain of Smash in his eyes and say, "remember who you are". His expression slowly changes from that of a madman back to my good buddy john right before my eyes. I get off of him and help him up as well. We dust ourselves off. I look at my bud and look at the mess. I say, "Time to get back to the rig, got a 12 hr drive ahead of us" The whole restaurant starts clapping. They are grateful to us. They love us. We have become more than some rig boys who frequent the local eatery who have the loudest truck at Sonic. We are hometown heroes. We are Jena's finest. We walk out and as the dust clears, we take one look back and see the great people of Jena and the one and only Brisket House. The institution that truly stands for the people of Jena. That truly represents the people it feeds. Thats how karate saved my life and the Brisket House. read more

By far the best BBQ around! I drive 30-40 minutes from my hometown just so I can eat here. I have to go miles away to even enjoy the bbq anywhere else after eating at this place.
