This old hotel is very very tired. Everything needs a touch up in some way. Tables and chairs and room furniture is knicked and scraped. So last month I utilized the currency exchange services offered by the front desk no problem. Today though was a different story. The woman I approached told me that Marriott's exchange rate for US dollars is very very high and that I should walk 400 meters to the mall down the street to exchange money. She was dismissive and rude and became visibly irritated when I asked her for the address and name of the currency exchange. I told her I didn't care about the high rates of exchange so she disappeared for a few minutes and came back to tell me she's in the middle of a shift change and that it'll be HOURS before anyone can help me. Really?? Get some training to your staff on professionalism and not lying to your customers. read more

It's always nice to be greeted by some familiarity when on the road 7000 miles away from home. Layout of the room is good. Ask for a river view room if possible. It's just better than facing another building or street. The person at the check-in counter was from Pennsylvania when I walked in. Very friendly staff at this hotel overall. Concierge Lounge has pretty decent food. I just wish that there was bottled water for me to grab on my way out as well. The drop-off/pickup situation at this hotel isn't great, unfortunately, so make sure you plan accordingly if you're arranging stuff for yourself. read more

I do not know how we ended up staying here with all the choices on the river in Downtown Brisbane, but we spent several days here, and it was just okay. The main problem with this property is that it is old. They have renovated a lot of the rooms, and ours was one of the renovated rooms, but it is hampered by the old design of the building. The room has basically one window, and it is not a large window. You can never really get enough light in the room. Something else that is a bother is that the city has grown up around this hotel so that much of your view is other buildings and not river or sweeping vista. I guess there is not much you can really do about that. The bright spot at this hotel is the service in the breakfast room. Outstanding. The front desk is not outstanding but not bad. The cleaning staff is first rate. So I hate to ding this hotel for age, it feels like ageism, but this Marriot, this building as it is today, has come to the end of its useful live. That is all you really need to know. read more

Fantastic hotel! Great location on the quiet side of Brisbane CBD, walking distance to Chinatown and City Centre. Breakfast was amazing! A chef to cook whatever you'd like, pancakes, eggs.... + continental buffet and the coffee was excellent! Swimming pool had perfect temperature (we visited during winter) and also a spa beside it. The room was spacious and quiet, the customer service was very nice and friendly. When back to Brisbane would stay at the Marriot again. read more

This is a fantastic hotel with great service and a pretty good breakfast buffet. I've been here twice now for work and I have not been disappointed. The concierge treats you very courteously when you arrive and the front desk is always making sure that you have what you need. I've stayed a room on the executive level (because they ran out of normal rooms) with a double bed as well as one with a king-sized single. Both were very comfortable and kept very clean. The one perk of being on the executive level though is that it has its own area for breakfast which has more fruit and cold choices than the main buffet in the lobby. One thing that I have observed while in Brisbane is that Yelp reviews for services are few and far between. So hoping this review provides some much needed updated information. I came here to Brisbane Australia on a ten day holiday for the first time. I will say, that the people are really friendly and approachable. This hotel is really nice in the main lobby and common areas. The facility at the time of my visit sadly, was under construction to make changes to upgrade rooms, executive lounges and other areas. The management did make a valiant effort to still make accommodations available for their executive members in an optional space. The Ugly.... * Construction! There is never a good time to renovate,but we all know that it must be done. Personally, I think they should disclose that during the booking process, thus allowing guest to decide if its something worth dealing with. As mentioned above, the executive spaces were not available to us members, thus the nice expected perk was unattainable. But, as mentioned, they did make an attempt to provide an alternate space. However, 24 hour access i.e early morning coffee was not accessible. * The rooms are small & clean, but really outdated thus the construction renovations. The Good.... * I was given a nice room with a view of the Story Bridge. * Short & easy access to and from the airport. * Accessible walking distance to just about everything in town. Including the Central Train Station, City Cat ferry system, that gets you to and from almost everything on the river. * The Motion Bar & Grill is simply awesome! The menu is bountiful with something for everyone's pallet. The chefs, especially Ben are fantastic too. All the chefs made a point to come out and personally check on my meals. Fantastic! The service is first class. The dining manager Miss Emily is prompt, attentive and courteous. All of her servers are first class. My gratitude goes out to Katia, Kes, Odette, Joanna, Laura & Minn Le for exceptional attentive service. * The bar service from both Jonny and Luke was exceptional. This is my second time staying at the Marriott for work, an I have to say that this hotel is nice and I really think the check in, valet, and staff in general work hard to make your stay as nice as they can. The location is good because you can walk to the eagle street pier and to the queen street mall. The rooms are pretty good and the bed is par, although the comforter was quite nice. Being from the states, all hotels in Brisbane are freaking expensive. This one is no different, but I do think that if you are able to get a package that includes the breakfast and parking it's a good value compared to the other hotels that I have stayed at in this area. The main issue with this place is the service at the bar and restaurant is hit or miss. This afternoon the service was so slow and the girls were so cold that I was stunned. It's a rather difficult thing to swallow when you are paying $330 a night to basically have the wait staff tell you they will bring you a beverage and then just disappear for 15 minutes. As I write this, I'm the only person at the bar..... The only one, and it took 15 minutes to get a beer AFTER I ordered it. How long does it actually take to fill a glass of draft beer and hand it to you? Everyone has an off day but come on, that's not proper by any stretch. I was too tired from walking all day to go back out to eagle street, so reluctantly I decided to just do the restaurant again. This time the mate that took care of me was great. I originally was very disappointed in the bar, and no matter what, it is expensive. Sometimes it's worth it, but for sure you are paying a high premium for the location. read more

Having spent two nights here on my most recent stay I thought I should review it now I have enjoyed more of the facilities. The staff are great, friendly and approachable, they also do the little things; at least 1 bottle of complementary water per guest, another in the car after collecting it from concierge, little thank you notes for staying left in the room, etc. I was lucky enough to be with their "company of the month" where they thank a specific Business for their patronage with a room discount which was an added bonus. The lounge while small never got crowded and the offering is substantial enough to skip a meal if you desire; the bar & restaurant were also well stocked and even when busy allowed you to find a quite corner if you hunted for one. The only downside is that while all the rooms are nice, they are starting to look a little dated; far from worn out just looking due for a makeover in the next 5 years perhaps? read more

I really enjoy the Marriott chain. It's generally my #1 selection when I travel. This Marriott is okay, not great. It's a little older, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the rooms are pretty basic. I've stayed on 11, 25 and 28 (top floor and the 'executive' level). My only comparison in Brisbane is the Rydges. The Marriott is good, but the Rydges has balconies and way better food. I'm surprised at how bad the food is considering the chef seems great. He makes little appetisers/entrees in the exec lounge and they are great. But overall the menu is very weak. The exec lounge is a great option or free snacks and drinks, the location is convenient to the eagle street pier and they do offer 5x points for Marriott credit card users. The queen street mall is about 6 blocks away. Very convenient for tourists read more

I stayed in Room 804 on 4th to 5th April (Easter Weekend). We used a Scoopon deal that entitled us to some dining perks (a "free" lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids), discounted breakfast, and a great rate on the room. Overall, our stay was fine. I think some feedback about the Motion Bar and Grill is required so this part of the hotel can improve their service standards. ==Saturday== We arrived at lunch on the 4th and after getting settled in the room, we went straight down to Motion to redeem the lunch offer. This was a pre-paid meal essentially, but we were never offered the choice of purchasing a drink with our meal, or for the kids (which was a lost opportunity because we probably would have). On the way down in the elevators, we saw a $49 meal deal for 2 adults and kids, and asked the restaurant duty manager about the deal. He didn't even know about the deal and used the excuse that he had been off for a few days as the reason. He even had to look in the elevator to read the deal :|. He promised he would call our room back with the details and he never did. ==Sunday Brekky== We arrived for brekky at 7am, and service was underway. We were shown to our table, and then kind of abandoned. No one explained that you could actually order freshly cooked omelettes, waffles and pancakes if you wanted to. So we just thought the offerings in the Bain Marie were what was available. We also had to wait for a starter coffee until one of the lovely table clearers came around and interacted with us. It was not a great impression, particularly considering that the breakfasts were $35 each. ==Monday Brekky== Monday's service was much better, however there was only apples to juice on the juicing station. We still weren't told about the freshly-prepared options on the buffet, but I pre-empted this and placed an immediate order for pancakes for the kids and an omelette for me. All hot dishes were really well prepared. It's worth noting that the chefs also prepare Bain Marie Eggs Benedict, which actually rivaled some Eggs Benedict I've had in proper breakfast cafes. This is a full marriott but I would call it a courtyard. The staff is ok, depends on who you get. The restaurant in the lobby doesn't care if your a guess or not. Rooms are basic and not sure they have many upgraded rooms.. but they didn't offer it too me. It has a great view and it was a perfect location for my needs. I am not impressed with this hotel, I will look for another when I come back. read more

Great location next to the river. If you're looking for walking distance nightlife, head to the riverfront and walk to the right (away from the bridge). The staff was friendly and very helpful with setting up a rewards card (free and also gets you free WiFi) which I was more than happy to do. read more

This review is for the spa at the Brisbane Marriott called the Dome Retreat. I treated my friend to a massage for her birthday, which she was very pleased with. She said the massage was very relaxing, and the therapist was willing to adjust the treatment to accommodate my friend's sunburn. I joined my friend at the spa and for a fee was allowed to use the other facilities. This included the shower, pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The sauna temperature was so hot I could only stay in for 3 minutes and the jacuzzi timer for the whirlpool was set for only 5 minutes in length (so I then had to get out of the jacuzzi every 5 minutes to hit the button on the wall again). Although my friend had a lovely massage, which I am very happy about, I'm giving this only two-stars because for the price I have come to expect more from my day spa experiences. read more

The Hotel is great and the staff are warm and friendly. Big thanks to Carlos in the Motion restaurant for making every meal enjoyable. The rooms are well appointed,very clean and of course Marriot beds are known for comfort. The only thing that I thought was completely unreasonable was being a regular guest with a vehicle and being stung $55 per night for parking. The hotel itself is on the border of the CBD and Valley precinct so $55 to park in the Marriot's own park was outrageous. If you have a car look nearby there are ALOT of cheap overnight parks within walking distance. read more

I travel to Brisbane frequently for business (once or twice a month, on average) - my company arranges accommodations with the Marriott and I couldn't be happier with this hotel. I travel for a living (airline industry), so when I pull in from a long flight, it's nice to know how much the staff respect the fact that we're usually exhausted, hungry, and exhausted (!) Because of the frequency of travel, the familiar faces there recognize myself and crew mates by name, and they go out of their way to make us feel at home. Rooms are great, comfortable and quiet; exercise facilities are top notch; and the restaurant and bar are fantastic - food/ wine/ beer selection are excellent. And if you want to go out for dinner, or take a stroll along the river - do some shopping, it's all close by. I go back to Brisbane this week, arriving Friday, can't wait to get there, and I'll likely have a nice glass of wine and the crispy skin Barramundi for dinner ....!! Recommend read more

I'm confused over this hotel having four stars. Maybe because it has so little competition? I stayed in the emporium last week, which was slightly higher in price, but exponentially nicer. I found this Marriot to be crummy and outdated. Sound also travels easily throughout the hotel. Finally, they don't have mini-bars in the rooms (bizarre), and my room (2 double beds) only had two accessible plug outlets. Also, no robes in the room (sad). On the upside, although the downstairs restaurant is pricey, I was pleased with my meal there; ambiance was (predictably) mediocre. read more
