What an interesting store, and watching them make hats is really neat...they were helpful and friendly. Love all their products. The store interior is huge - way larger than it appears from the street. Inside, it is super wide and long, and it's divided up into multiple connected rooms inside. I got a kick out of the various rooms' antique-y items placed strategically about: old wooden ladders, old lathes and finishing machines, an old piano (which invites people to use), old pharmacy and apothecary tools on display on antique countertops, lab apparatus, pipes and valves, and more, much more. All super cool. And the hats! I'm not sure I've ever seen so many hats, in all types and sizes and colors, in any one store before. They had vibrant bucket rubber raincoats in every color, Stetsons, boaters and bucket hats, fedoras and Panama hats, cowboy hats, hats that look like they were worn by Crocodile Dundee ("outback" hats?), hats that look like they were worn by Sherlock Holmes ("sleuthing" hats?), top hats, rain hats, every kind of hat imaginable. In every color and material and size, in every price point. You'd be hard-pressed not to find any type of hat you want here. The employees here seemed nice but I didn't interact with any of them when I visited.

After doing some online research, I knew he was the only option to get the job done. I dropped off my hat just as David was preparing for the Queen's Plate, so the process took longer than usual. However, David kept in touch with me, letting me know what stage he was at, when it would be completed, etc. The services to block and shape a hat aren't cheap, but it is a specialised art/skill. I am very happy with the results!

The trouble came on the day of the wedding when it literally fell apart the second it was pinned on by my MUA. First, one of the three silk roses fell off. We managed to pin it back together so I could wear it. Before the ceremony, the second rose fell off. Again, we cobbled it together to at least get through the ceremony. Considering how expensive it was and how delicately I treated it, I really can't figure out why it didn't stay together. When I sent David an email after the wedding to let him know what happened, he didn't even bother to respond. So yes. I got a gorgeous fascinator but he didn't stand behind his work or even try to offer any kind of explanation.

Nice selections of Guinness novelty items, Irish traditional more conservative clothing.. those nice sweaters, overcoat would certainly keep you warm and toasty.. but just don't look at the price tag. Make sure you go to the back and have some Irish cuisine, irish tea and desserts. It is a delight to see a little tea shop inside of the store where you can enjoy some Irish home cooking!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a all about the shopping, history and lake time (it's named for a reason!); and as far as shopping goes, Irish Design should be one of your stops. Beautiful store chalk full of Irish (no surprise there!) products, many made from beautiful Merino wool: socks, hats, blankets and the most beautiful, thick sweaters you've ever seen. Also, a large assortment of scarves, jewelry and all your Irish needs. Whether you're looking for a present for yourself or someone else, if you're willing to open your pocket book VERY wide, this might be just the stop for you. Like most of the stores directly on Queen Street (the main drag in Niagara-on-the-Lake), Irish Design has its prices set high. Although, they DO have a "sale" section and remember, everything is listed in Canadian dollars. They accept credit, cash and US currency and have a lovely tea room, which I did not visit, in the back of the store (bathrooms only available for tea room patrons, no public store washroom!) Irish Design is also located near the [shopping] end of Queen Street, right before the residential strip, couple shops over from King George Theater. Great hours, opening at 9:30am during the weekday. Overall, a cozy shop and unique enough that it should be on your list of places to visit.

I paid $200.00, for the shoes and Otis billed me an additional $45.00, to ship to Denver, Colorado. Earlier this week, I received the shipping confirmation, but I also received a separate email from the shipper, DHL, to let me know that I owed them an additional $72.81, and that if I did not pay in four days, the shipment would be sent back to Uncle Otis. I called Otis and was advised that because I live in the States, I would need to pay the duties on the order, and that if I didn't want to pay the duties, the shipment would be sent back to Uncle Otis Clothing and I would receive a refund, MINUS the $45.00, that I paid for shipping, so basically, I was on the hook for the $72.81, or I could send the shoes back and lose the $45.00, that I'd already paid. I was miffed to say the least and Otis was unhelpful when I emailed to ask why I paid over $115.00, just to ship. In fact, Uncle Otis Clothing didn't even have the ship to address correct, so that after I paid the extortion, so that I didn't end up paying $45.00, to get NOTHING, I had to call Uncle Otis Clothing back to sit on hold for a half hour white they called DHL to correct their mistake. To say this was mishandled is the understatement of 2025. The customer service was crap, as was the explanation of the return policy and why I was billed $117.81 for shoes that cost half of that cost. Uncle Otis Clothing is a complete scam and I will not stand silently by while companies like this one take advantage of people. The experience left a taste in my mouth that I would like to never taste again and I will continue spreading the word.

And by that i'm sure he means pissed off people who are clearly getting hoodwinked by a return policy that's not reflective of online shopping. As a first time buyer you'd think they'd make an exception and do a return now that i'm more familiar with their antiquated return policy. That said, too bad we don't want your business is the general response. And "if you don't like it go write a bad review, my name is Vincent and I own the place" is not what you'd expect but, it did inspire this review so, thank you, Vincent. I'll be shocked if this business is around in 5 years, or at least under the same management. Will never shop with these clowns again.
