Extremely Disappointed -- Especially with Manager Melissa My wife and I have been loyal Brilliant Earth customers for years. We purchased her engagement ring and wedding band here and always had great experiences with the sales reps. Unfortunately, our most recent visit in July 2025 has completely changed how we view this company. We came in to purchase the exact same wedding band as my wife's original to complete her set. The sales rep we worked with was fantastic -- attentive, helpful, and quick to address a problem we noticed when the ring arrived. The new band was clearly larger than the original, and our sales rep immediately worked with us on a plan to fix it by having the new ring repaired to match the original. The problem started when this needed manager approval. Manager Melissa was shockingly unprofessional. Instead of helping, she spent the entire interaction dismissing our concerns and essentially trying to gaslight us into believing there was no sizing issue at all. She attempted to undo the solution the sales rep had already arranged and became defensive and aggressive when we pushed back. After far too much back-and-forth, she finally agreed to send the ring for repair -- but refused to guarantee a return if the repair wasn't timely or satisfactory. Thankfully, the Brilliant Earth repair team came through and resolved the issue. But when we returned to pick up the ring, Melissa wouldn't even acknowledge us or interact with us. After years of loyalty, this experience -- specifically due to Melissa's behavior -- has completely soured us on Brilliant Earth. This will be the last time we shop here. read more

All five stars, of course.*** I followed Beyonce's advice and finally put a ring on it. Maybe I'd known all along that I wanted to marry Nichole C, but after two years of dating an amazing person I felt that July 2019 would be the right time to pop the question (which I wound up doing in Tokyo at the international fireworks festival--more on that later). My (at the time) girlfriend had dropped plenty of not-so-subtle hints as to what she wanted in a ring, and more specifically where she wanted one bought from. I looked at other places for a cost comparison, and on 7/11/19 I made the decision to shop downtown for some sustainable jewelry. Brilliant Earth is appointment-only; you won't be able to access their showroom if you just waltz in off the street. Their Chicago location is on the Near North Side, on the 2nd floor of 34 E Oak St between Nico Osteria and Del Frisco's. These stones are grown in a lab, meaning that they're real but don't have any blood on them, so to speak. I arrived on-time and Thomas G walked me through all the steps, from choosing the right center stone to finding the perfect setting. I knew what I wanted for shape and carat, I had an idea of color, and knew absolutely nothing about either cut or clarity. He was patient and explained all the in's & out's to me. Ultimately, I went with a 1 karat center diamond with 1/3 karat side stones, in a 18K white gold halo. The stone's cut was 'super ideal', meaning it reflected the maximum amount of light. This thing really sparkles & shines! It was colorless and 'VVS1' -- the 3rd highest measure of clarity -- almost internally flawless. I won't divulge how much I spent (that's a pretty tacky move, tbh) but I will say it's less than what you might pay at Zales or Jared. The biggest difference is that these rocks are guaranteed to be conflict-free, so you can shop with a clear conscience. Suffice to say, it took her breath away when I opened that little wooden box in Japan. * TL;DR * Buying an engagement ring is a huge commitment, both financially and emotionally. I feel good about my purchase here and if I had to do it all over again, I would. I'll be recommending that my dude friends consider Brilliant Earth once they reach that stage in their relationship. I've been to this showroom several times over the last two years and each time has always been pleasurable. Unlike most other jewelry stores, you really should make an appointment before coming in. I have been to Brilliant Earth a couple of times without an appointment, but this isn't ideal. I highly recommend booking a slot online so you get enough time with an associate and a chance to see the products. I like the set up of the store. Very personalized and intimate. When you come in, the receptionist lets the associate know that you have arrived. The associate then walks you to the showroom. If you saved any rings to your online profile, the associate will have those rings set out for you to try on. We picked this store for my engagement ring and our wedding bands because of the fact that they use conflict free diamonds. The selection of engagement and wedding rings is large. Even though the prices may not be as low as some of the bigger chain jewelry stores, you can definitely find rings/diamonds in a wide range of prices. I really can't think of anything negative to say about this store. The products are outstanding! This place is open everyday and has night hours during the week. I could not be more disappointed that we went with Brilliant Earth. I had my first appointment at the west loop location and had a wonderful appointment. Picked everything out, had it saved in the system ready to go when my boyfriend was ready to purchase. He went to the Gold Coast location to make the purchase and worked with Molly. He asked her to order the exact ring that was in the system and had the confirmation email to confirm (which had all the correct specifications). Molly upsold him on features I did not want, upsold him on the size, made the band skinnier and less supportive than I wanted AND she ordered the wrong style diamond!!!! When my boyfriend picked up the diamond he felt it was wrong but being a man was not sure. They assured him it can be changed out within 30 days. After proposing he asked if the ring was correct and we had to have the awkward conversation that it was not. I felt horrible telling him that and him feeling like he did something wrong. When in actuality it was Molly who screwed everything up. The store was willing to change it out which is a relief .. however, I will not get my ring back for 3 weeks and I have to give the original ring back. Being without your ring the first three weeks of your engagement is devastating. We are having an engagement party and the ring will not be here in time. The store manager has tried to get the ring here faster but it's not possible. If I could go back, I would have never gone to Brilliant Earth. Shame on you Molly for having one job and taking advantage of a guy trying to make everything perfect. UPDATE: 3/25/25 My ring was supposed to arrive today. I was promised it by today. It was going to take 4 weeks and would miss her wedding date. Her plan was to call customer service every day "until she became such a nuisance they expedited the ring." It didn't take longer than one minute on her first call to ensure her ring would be back to her before the big day. Faith, the woman that we worked with, took initiative and CALLED HER BACK the next day to verify the date that it would be shipped and received.  10 days later, and not more than an hour after the ring arrived at the doorstep, the phone rang. It was Faith. Calling (after her normal working hours) to make sure that the ring arrived and was perfect.  We have never had better customer service. While so many things about these nuptials are not what we planned, Faith made sure the rings were.  We could not be more thankful. read more

I recently visited their showroom here in Chicago and had a wonderful experience! I've always been a fan of their designs and philosophy online, but had no idea they had a physical location in the city. It's super easy to make an appointment online through their website, although you do have to make it about a month in advance if you want to get a time outside of normal working hours (after 5pm or the weekend). After you schedule your appointment, you fill out a little survey to help them better understand what you're looking for. In my case for engagement rings, the questions ranged from preferred stone, stone shape, budget, timeline, etc. It was great being able to make a few notes, and when we arrived for our appointment our assistant, Ilaria, double checked with me and talked through my notes with me which was super great. When we arrived, we checked in and shortly after our assistant called us back. First we sat down with her and talked through our vision, then she walked us through several rings on different styles and stone shapes based on what I had said and I was also able to try on anything I wanted. I loved how the experience wasn't pushy at all, and I didn't feel like it was about selling me something but rather finding a ring that spoke to me. I was also able to figure out my ring size, and see some different stones in different sizes to decide what I wanted. We had such an amazing time with Ilaria and she was a big help for us. I found a ring I LOVED and she walked us through how to customize the ring online and make the purchase whenever we were ready. The only drawback is that most of the rings are set with a circle diamond in white gold, so while you can pick any stone, stone shape or metal online, you can't see all the different shapes and metals with the setting you like in-store. This wasn't a big deal to me, but for some I know it might matter. Would totally recommend this place and I look forward to visiting again when it comes time to buy a wedding band! read more

As my wife just said, "We will never go back there." Yes, they have nice jewelry -- her new diamond wedding band is beautiful -- and the website is great. But the shopping experience was poor from beginning to end. Although I started shopping BE a month in advance of my wife's birthday, all appointments at the Chicago show room were booked weeks out, so I had to make the entire purchase on line. I wasn't even allowed to drop in briefly to see examples of rings I was considering, despite working a 5-minute walk away. Maybe that works for a wedding band, but for her engagement diamond purchased elsewhere, it was necessary to consider a couple dozen ovals before making the final decision. Such a deliberate purchase would've been impossible at BE. All of this is because of the rigid business structure and poor communications within BE. Their "Chicago" phone number routes you to a coastal call center. Their staff are friendly and professional, but they are constrained throughout. For example, when dropping off the ring for re-sizing, they were unable to provide us a receipt on the spot -- their system couldn't accommodate that simple request! I don't know about you, but I wouldn't drop off my car or my dry cleaning without a receipt. And finally, picking up the ring initially and after re-sizing were bad experiences. Instead of being invited into the showroom, we had to view the ring while standing in the waiting room among onlookers and without a chance to look carefully or in good lighting. The analogy to dry cleaning is again apt. Edit: As my wife and I continue to ruminate over our experience, I am reminded of one final anecdote... While dropping off the wedding band for resizing, my wife gently inquired whether the BE representative would clean her engagement ring. We were incredulous to hear that BE policy does not permit cleaning non-BE jewelry! Offering to clean any customer's ring is standard practice at any jewelry store that I have ever visited because the minor inconvenience to staff of placing a ring into a sonicator for a few seconds pales in comparison to the potential customer good will that is raised. Of course, being denied a standard industry courtesy is just another insult consistent with our overall BE experience. read more

I would not recommend Brilliant Earth. I chose this B.E. because I wanted to purchase a ring from an "ethical" company; however when my ring was damaged I found that the repair process was anything but. I received my engagement ring in October 2019; however because of quarantine I barely wore it. In March 2021, I noticed a prong on my ring was missing/damaged. I sent the ring to B.E. for what I thought would be a simple repair. I was informed my ring was damaged 'beyond' repair and told they could only offer a $400 credit for my setting, the fortuna (one of their most expensive), which could be put towards purchasing a new setting and filing down my gemstone to a smaller size. Costing me at least 2.5k-3k After much back and forth, they agreed to give me a new stone (keeping and repurposing my old stone for someone else); however I would still need to purchase a new setting minus the credit. This was not acceptable, this was my engagement ring and it has sentimental value. I didn't want a new ring that looked like my ring, I wanted MY ring. I decided to take my ring to jewelers row in Chicago and get a second opinion. I went to seven jewelers and ALL of them said that they could fix the ring easily from $150-$250. In the end, I took the ring to a jeweler who was my husband's family friend. When he took the gemstone out of the ring he said it was chipped on three sides (not just the one where the prong broke), and said this could have happened when it was originally set. He repaired the prong, purchased and set a new (better) gemstone and made a necklace with the original stone all for $500. I feel like I was being taken advantage of in the repair process and being made to spend thousands on a new ring that was not made or set well initially. If you want to be ethical in your ring purchase I suggest an antique or a local jeweler, and choosing a gemstone or moissanite rather than going with a company like Brilliant Earth. read more

One of the rings that arrived was the wrong design, but this was easily remedied and replaced with the correct design after we made another visit to the showroom. My fiance bought the ring I had been eyeing online for several years, and I was ecstatic as it was even more beautiful in person. About 1.5 years passed since he purchased the ring and the time he proposed, and my finger was a little smaller so we got it resized. I'm not sure if that messed with the integrity of the ring or whatnot, but about a week after I got it back, two accent stones had fallen out. I called, explained the problem, and received instructions on shipping the ring back to them for repair. We received an email prompting us to schedule a call with their jewelry repair technician to discuss the issue. Unfortunately there was nothing available until 10 days away, so I schedule it hoping something would open up sooner, but it didn't. When I receive the call from the specialist, she says there's signs of "wear and tear" on the ring (with the resizing and sending it back twice, the ring had been on my finger less than a month). She says their warrantee doesn't cover it and that the repair would cost $300ish...not ok! In response to my frustration, she said they would do a one-time courtesy of covering the repair. Hopefully after they sent it back, this doesn't happen again! Which I really hope because their rings are beautiful and we were hoping to purchase the matching wedding band there. read more

My fiancé and I looked at rings twice in the Chicago Gold Coast location. After making my final payment in July I was promised an August 1st delivery date. Right from the start they could not get my address correct. I repeatedly called to make sure it was sent to the show room however each time I called they would pull up an old address I haven't lived at for over a year. I called twice a week for updates on August 1st delivery. I called August 1 and was told to come pick it up as it was ready at the showroom. When I sent some to pick it up they told them it had not been shipped and was still in production. I had an August 9th proposal planned. I called twice a week reminding them and asking for production updates along the way. Not once was I given an update not an email or phone call ever. This is an online retailer with a call center and fancy show room. You'll never speak to anyone you spoke to before. No matter what you do. The ring was promised to be overnighted , never came in, was lied to again. This went on for 6 days in a row. Until I was told they weren't making the ring and it was outsourced. I paid an additional $350 for this ring to be recreated. They offered a $100 refund. I got the $350, and gave them an opportunity to make up for their lack of communication by discounting the wedding bands. I declined the 10% discount because it's more important that people know they are one big scam. Over promised and under delivered from the start . The original sales woman reached out after multiple attempts to put me in contact with her manager 3 days prior to my engagement. She acted as if I didn't call or send one email. I asked for follow up's and ended up having to call a call center twice a week for over a month. The level of stress and anxiety they had caused made me want to return the ring entirely. However I cannot because it was a "recreation". Don't shop here go somewhere else read more

Hopefully this review helps other first-time engagement ring buyers, because there were several challenges when it came to the engagement ring shopping process. 1) The initial appointment was a bit confusing for anyone who is a first-time engagement ring purchaser. It would benefit the customer immensely if Brilliant Earth produced some hard copy materials to use during the appointment to help us understand visually, with examples, what the difference is between colors, cut, clarity, etc. We felt like we had to guide the conversation with all of our questions, whereas it would've been more helpful is the salesperson opened with, "Okay, let's cover the basics here." 2) Given that many people go to Brilliant Earth to consider both lab-made diamonds and moissanite, it was really confusing for us to understand the differences of the two and how they compared to real diamonds. For example, the salesperson let us know that moissanite wasn't measured by carats, but rather by millimeters, so it was difficult for us to translate what exactly we'd be getting. The salesperson tried to explain it verbally, but honestly, we were a little lost since this was new for us. More visual examples would've been great, but the salesperson was just frequently was just pulling up the website to try and show us (something we could've done ourselves). Which leads me to.... 3) There weren't enough examples in-store. You would think that they'd have an array ready of all the different color settings/bands with how diamonds, lab diamonds, and moissante looked with all those settings. We also were hoping to see examples of different millimeter size stones and shapes within the different settings/bands (for that, even cubic zirconia would've sufficed just to help us understand the scale). But instead, we were forced to use our imaginations to visualize how the engagement ring "might" look like with a completely different stone size and band color than the one sample that was in front of us. Sure enough, exactly how we were worried about, the final product we received in the mail did not look good at all and we had exchange for a different stone quickly after the proposal. Which leads me to..... 4) The "30 day exchange/resize guarantee" isn't as great as it sounds. They tell you that you have 30 days to exchange or resize the ring, but considering many people are purchasing engagement rings for proposals that are weeks or months away, there's a big chance you could completely miss that window. And the policy is actually 30 days after the ring is SHIPPED, not 30 days after it's delivered. This is very misleading because because it's impossible to assess what the final product looks like for the days that it's traveling across the country in a Fedex box.... So for our experience, we were lucky to even have only TWO days after the proposal to snag an appointment and make an exchange (and take time off work for this...) in order to stay within the exchange window. Again, this would've been completely prevented they had more examples of how different size/shape stones look in different colored settings. read more

She provided several pictures of bands I was interested in matched up with rings that had a similar profile to my engagement ring. Ultimately, I chose the "Crown" band in rose gold, and couldn't be happier. The ring arrived in a very timely matter, and in nice packaging, along with a complimentary appraisal - and my ring was appraised at about $200 more than I paid for it! All on Brilliant Earth's website, even before going to any of the jewelers! Brilliant Earth was definitely careful with COVID-19 precautions, spacing, and masking protocols. Its values and mission on ethical jewelry and sourcing is just the cherry on top. We had our appointment set for the Chicago location with our amazing jewelry guide Anazia. Mask protocols included, the experience was nothing short of engaging and magical. My girlfriend and I clicked with Anazia and the time during our showing happened to flow on by. We had the whole showcase of engagement rings, wedding bands and got to fit and play around with the combinations we were interested in. What was also great was that they had the quarter sizes (7.25) for our fitting which none of the other jewelers had. The only thing I would recommend is having different sized bands, but that didn't adversely affect our overall experience. In summary, Brilliant Earth and Anazia: you guys have done a spectacular job on making this step in our lives a memorable one. Of all of the online and showroom we've visited, Brilliant Earth was the best in terms of ring design selection, ethical sourcing, and professional staff. We were vacationing in Chicago and made an appointment to checkout the new showroom. The showroom was located on the upscale area of Chicago's Gold Coast.
