Took a cruise ship tour from Olden along the beautiful green lakes and snowcapped mountains to reach the Briksdal Glacier.
For more than 100 years the farmers in Oldedalen used to transport tourists with horse and carriage to view the glacier and waterfalls. The horsedrawn carriages were replaced with the Trollcars in 2004.
The visit to Jostedal Glacier National Park via the Trollcar Tour was so beautiful.
Briksdal Glacier.
The mighty Briksdal Glacier is part of the Jostedal Glacier National Park. The glacier drops from a height of 1200 meters down into the narrow, fertile Briksdalen. The Briksdal Glacier is a western arm of the Jostedal Glacier, the biggest glacier on mainland Europe. The glacier descends almost right down to the Briksdalsvatnet lake. It is just a 700-meter walk from the Trollcars.
Waterfalls along the way.
Our US Marine tour guide, Gary, described so many waterfalls along the way. Once of the largest, the cascading Kleivafossen Waterfall, will spray you as you cross the bridge via the Trollcars on the way to the Briksdal Glacier. Apparently, this waterfall is one of the most photographed in all of Norway.
Also had a short stop after visiting the glacier to enjoy some sweet pastries and hot tea in the cafe.
A great way to visit the Briksdal Glacier on a cruise to Norway with Celebrity Silhouette. read more
