Obviously you want to find the best care possible for your family so the search began. I went to tour Cedar Crest and liked it immediately. I stopped in unannounced and was offered a tour. The atmosphere was very calm, a lot of the residents were engaged in some activity or another, it was very clean, the residents looked clean and the care givers were very attentive to them. There was no smell of urine or anything else. The person that gave the tour pointed out several little things that I would have never thought of like, in the courtyard that is in the middle of the facility, the plants are all edible just in case one of the residents eats one. Those little things are big things for the residents. I go daily to see my MIL and every time I'm there, the staff is very kind, compassionate and answer any questions I might have. My MIL has very long hair that needs to be braided every night to avoid tangles and her care providers ALWAYS do a beautiful job. I feel a sense of trust that she is being cared for by the best! They also have an RN on staff, they have a doc that specializes in Gerontology who comes to the facility to see the patients. They do NOT have to go be transported out to a doctor. They also have a Medical Director on staff. They have their State Audits in a binder in the waiting room for full disclosure. I am extremely impressed with all of them. Thank you so much Cedar Crest for not only taking outstanding care of our mom but also being compassionate to our family.

I worked with Christyna at 1st Choice Advisory Services to search through a bunch of options and settled on Brookdale for a number of reasons: 1) The price was right for my budget. 2) It's located close to two parks and a trail along the Tualatin River that my dad can walk. 3) There is memory care for when my dad inevitably needs it. 4) It came with a glowing recommendation from Christyna for the Executive Director, Nino, who she previously worked with in Vancouver. I had a great experience working with Junene to make the move-in happen, as well as with Anil to get my dad's unique care plan put together. During the move-in Brookdale was very accommodating to my request to remove the closet doors and cabinet doors so that my dad would be able to see all his belongings - they even helped us mount his tv to the wall. All the caregivers I've interacted with have been attentive and kind to my dad. Jill, at the front desk, gave me a call when some important looking paperwork arrived in the mail and wanted to check if it was something she should forward to me or give to my dad - I was impressed with that attention to detail. Dad is enjoying the food and the all activities that have recently returned after COVID - by a strange coincidence they severed his favorite meal, meatloaf, on the first day he was there. My two biggest concerns is that my dad is happy and that he is safe, and so far Brookdale is fulfilling both.

Fortunately, she has a positive attitude about this stage of her life and attempts to share that positivity with her neighbors in the facility. I'm writing this in response to COVID-19 and Bonaventure's response to the pandemic. We have been impressed with Bonaventure's speedy actions to protect their residents. Early on we received several letters from management explaining their approach. As a result of their early actions (including stopping all incoming visitors, serving meals in residents' apartments, daily temperature checks for all residents) they have had only one confirmed case of COVID-19 and, thankfully, that person has recovered. Though my mother is experiencing isolation, stress, and grief (like all the rest of us) we are resting easy knowing she is as safe there as she would be anywhere. Staff turnover and inconsistent food quality ARE serious issues at this location, and we hope they can improve in those areas of care, but for now, we are grateful they are protecting the lives of our mother and her friends and neighbors at Bonaventure Tigard.

Do not trust this facility with your loved ones, and do not apply to work here…read more I am a former employee of this community, having worked here as both a caregiver and the Activity Director. I watched this building thrive under previous leadership where residents were respected, staff was supported, and operations ran smoothly. Under current management, the facility has completely collapsed. The current leadership team--Jen (Executive Director), Melinda, and Ty--are running this building into the ground. They are manipulative, money-driven, and completely devoid of empathy for both the staff and the vulnerable residents in their care. When I brought valid care concerns to Jen and Melinda, they routinely dismissed me, shut down the conversation, and tried to make me feel stupid. Ty's disrespect and verbal degradation was the final straw that forced me to quit. No one should be insulted or made to feel insignificant, especially when doing the heavy, essential work of caring for people's families. Jen takes frequent, excessive vacations, leaving Melinda and Ty unsupervised. In her absence, they run rampant, creating a culture of chaos, distrust, and hostility. If you contact management during an off-hours emergency, they will berate you for bothering them, call you stupid, and tell you to figure it out yourself. They do not care about the safety or stability of the building; they only care about their own convenience. It is no longer a safe environment for residents, and it is a toxic, abusive environment for employees. Look anywhere else.

My disabled mother came to live with us 8 years ago and languished in bed all day watching TV. My hair stylist told me about Gentog when it opened (her mother is one of the senior caregivers) and my mom started attending once a week at first. She now goes twice a week and has for almost 5 years. Gentog provides great social interaction, but more than that, she's made lifelong friends with the staff and other participants. Since starting Gentog, my mother's health has improved as well. The social interaction alone is a plus, but they were also helpful in connecting us with other senior services. My mom gained a level of independence once they got her started using the TriMet lift bus system, and she now gets books delivered by mail from the local library. They also provide amazing support for caregivers through educational classes, seminars and support groups. We are moving out of state, and one of the hardest parts of this move is leaving Gentog. We will miss their loving care and support tremendously! I'd trust Gentog to care for any of my family members, babies or adults. They are truly amazing!
