If you have an individualistic taste in furnture thenEigon is the place to go. Sometime it seems to me to be like a wee haven of good taste in the dross of charity and pound shops that is Paisley High Street. It is very cramped for space but choc full of original and eye catching designs. Ranges of price so that you can but a very expensibe mirror or a gorgeous wee candle holder for a fiver.

I handed it back to the shop assistant (worst job title ever in this place) and vowed to never return to this store. My wife returned recently since we were desperate for some new lighting in the new house. She was trying to find out if they could order the items she had found in the catalog and had to listen to the asinine talk between two of the "un"assistants. If you hate yourself, wish to inflict pain on others, have an in-law that you want to punish with a really ugly item of lighting, or have too much time on your hands and want to be ignored by imbeciles. The catalogues in store have a fantastic selection. I bought a range of lights from a basic cheap light for my son's playroom through to crystal chandelier at a four figure sum. I spent several hours in this shop just looking at the catalogues over a few days, before ordering and again, staff were friendly and not pushy. Everyone comments on my lights now. I have nothing but praise for this shop. Thank you

I find that if you have been to one shelter charity shop you find that they are all the same…read more I find with all shelter charity shops that the clothing rails are too tightly packed together so much that they have forgotten about the customers trying to shop, any more than six customers in this store would be like a tin of sardines, this shop mainly stocks clothing.

No matter how hard I try, I can't stay away from charity shops…read more Shelter shops are always well maintained, something I've noticed from trailing charity shops this past month. This one adheres to that generalisation, with clothes clearly marked and some high quality high street tops and trousers to be found in here. They seem to have a range of work trousers which always comes in handy. There was a man hard at work arranging books when me and my boyfriend visited, and it seemed they had a generous selection of fiction on offer, including some nearly new releases. So this place would be good to kit yourself out for work, but also great if you're looking for some reading material to get you through your tea break!

I visited here as I went along to see my film crew from the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697 project I…read morewas involved with back in June. My crew were two lovely elderly men who enjoy filming and photography and are both members of the centre. I was invited along to collect the footage and the photographs from the day as I'm going to add it in to my main edit of the day. I found the place no problem at all, it's set in a lovely bit of ground and surrounded with trees and gardens. I was so warmly greeted and asked to sign in, it just had such a great vibe to the place. It's very open with lots of hussle and bussle and I waited in the infomation area where a communal computer was available. I was greeted by the lady I had an appointment with and I met up with my favourite film crew. I was guided into a large hall which doubles up for lunch and various activities. I joined them for lunch which was nice. The Disability Resource Centre is part of Renfrewshire Council's Independent Living Services Team. By promoting rehabilitation and enablement projects, they support people to live independently in the community. They provide a range of services to residents with a physical or sensory impairment aged 16-65 years. It's a great place, which does good work and you can tell it supports its users. Everyone that came in was very much welcomed and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

After traipsing around what seemed like hundreds of furniture stores trying to find a sofa we…read moreactually liked and could some how afford, Sofology (which used to be called Sofaworks) was a breath of fresh air. It's pretty big, and is quite sensibly arranged. In some stores I wasn't sure whether I'd seen everything by the time I'd left but Sofology is in no way confusing. It's just across one floor and, although the sofas are arranged in groups and in living room-style scenes, it's relatively open-plan. Wonderfully, every sofa collection is accompanied by an iPad which gives you all the details on the customisation available. So they might be displaying a two-seater in blue but you can use the iPad to see that three-seaters are available and to look at the range of fabric and hardware options. They also display all the sizing information and other helpful stuff. It took me a while to realise how helpful this was so we ended up doubling back a bit and looking at some options again. If you're shopping for a sofa then I recommend making use of the iPads right from the start. It's the most convenient way of displaying all the relevant information that I've seen. Of course, the do also have fabric books out - no tablet screen is going to be as good as a swatch. It wasn't long before we'd found something that fit all our requirements. At this point we quickly found a salesperson (apart from a "hello" at the door we'd been left to our own devices until now) who very efficiently told us everything we needed to know about the sofa. He processed our order in no time, making sure we were totally happy with everything we ere getting and now we can't wait for it to arrive. If we'd found this place first we probably wouldn't have needed to visit anywhere else.

Nestled in a corner is this lovely holdover from a bygone age…read more This is an Ironmongers. They don't sell garden furinture or kitchen ware. They sell locks and hinges - all things iron. If you live in a tenement - look around. A lot of the stuff you see holding the windows up or attached to your doors, you will not find in a B&Q or a Homebase. Try and describe and they will look at you like a person who needs locking up. To obtain these things and loads of other useful stuff - you need to get to Oswalds. I love this place. Ask for a screw and the guy brings out a board with screws attached to it. You don't need to know the industrial nomenclature. No need to learn builders jargon. Bring a sample of what you need or a picture of it. They will haul out a board and see if its brother is nestled amongst the variety of things available. What a great system! These guys are helpful and very into what they do - which is stuff made out of iron. Be tolerant and they will tolerate you (and your silly questions)
