About a month ago, after doing their own research, our child scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ola and has now seen him twice. From everything we've heard, the experience has been incredibly positive. Dr. Ola has been described as patient, thoughtful, and genuinely engaged -- someone who takes the time to understand and support without judgment. As a parent, it's hard to put into words how much relief and hope that brings. To other parents who might feel stuck or discouraged: don't give up. Keep looking. Encourage your child to advocate for themselves. Do your own research. Finding the right provider can make all the difference. We've seen real improvement not just in their well-being, but in the connection we share as a family.

For…read morecontext, I hold an MA in Health Communication from Johns Hopkins--I'm not new to the healthcare space. At our first visit, I was diagnosed with depression. I expressed hesitancy about medication and a willingness to try non-pharmaceutical approaches first, since this was a new experience for me. He strongly advised against that and prescribed 10mg of escitalopram "as soon as possible." I had never taken any prescription meds before and didn't know what starting doses were typical. I began with half a pill (5mg) and felt mild side effects, so I tried the full 10mg the next day--and immediately had reactions: worsened depression, confusion, nausea. Within 24 hours, I woke up with loss of vision, extreme confusion, I felt like my blood was boiling, and nausea. I ended up in the ER, where I was told to stop the medication. I didn't blame Dr. Ola for these side effects. When his office opened that morning, I explained what happened, and he advised to stop the medication. Done. For the next week, my confusion persisted, along with EXTREME shortness of breath (I am a dancer), dizziness, and rapid heartrate. After 2 days of this, I called Dr. Ola and explained what I was feeling. He brushed it off as anxiety-- stating it was, "extremely unlikely this would happen" and said what I was feeling was just anxiety. This was ridiculous. My depression was new, but I've been dealing with anxiety attacks since I was in 2nd grade. This was not that. I later went to Northwestern Immediate Care, where the doctor said 10mg is far from a standard starting dose, especially for someone new to SSRIs. Since then, I've consulted multiple professionals who confirmed that Dr. Ola's dosage choice was inappropriate. It took months to recover and return to dancing and I still have dizzy spells I have not had before I took the medication. I am not upset about the reaction--it truly could have happened to anyone. I am upset because Dr. Ola gave me an inappropriate prescription, and was dismissive of my side effects.

I only write this review so that it can help others considering Dr. Beaumont. I was a patient for…read moreroughly four months, having come to seek help with my anxiety issues (as this was listed as one of her specialities). As stated by others, Dr. Beaumont is a nice person and scheduling appointments was always easy. However, I left after four months because I recognized that I had made no progress in working to alleviate my issues. During several sessions, I mentioned various scenarios that induce anxiety and asked for actionable tips on what I can do to work to improve. Somehow Dr. Beaumont would either go off on a tangent regarding something actually irrelevant in her personal life, or try to guess (yes, guess) why I felt the way I stated in certain situations. The guesses were solely based on my appearance and what she'd learned about me up to that point. I can honestly say that the primary advice I received regarding my social anxiety was the following: Try asking people about themselves when starting a conversation, but avoid talking about politics and religion. Try complimenting people on what they're wearing and strike up a conversation from there. This is VERY common advice that I could have found in innumerable articles online instead of spending hundreds of dollars in therapy. Also, she suggested after only a few sessions that I consider anxiety medication, which is actually just antidepressants. She touted the potential benefits and a red flag went off for me at that point because she didn't even try to help me get to the root of my issues. It was a band-aid approach. Overall, I was very dissatisfied because I did not have a quality therapy experience with Dr. Beaumont. I would urge anyone who is looking for help with anxiety issues to seek assistance elsewhere. I needed a new Primary Care Physician since my Insurance changed and I could no longer use my…read moretrusted PCP in Illinois. Due to Obamacare I am on state insurance temporarily and I needed a local PCP since I had Neurosurgery 10 days earlier. Being on this Insurance can create and automatic stigma that often causes issues between physician and patient. Rest assured, I pay my portion of this state insurance. Anyway, I went for the visit and was placed in a exam room. A minute or two goes by and the door opens and the doctor begins asking questions from the hallway regarding medical records no one asked me to bring, "as if I was a bother and should have known better". Basically I was grilled for the whole visit and I could not believe how rude and argumentative this physician was. At one point I thought about walking out but I decided to wait and see how nasty she would get. Working in the Surgical Setting I see real world class physicians who treat patients with care and respect, recognizing that patients often refer other patients. This doctor failed to see that this meeting today was for me to see if I wanted to move forward in the relationship as caregiver and patient. I don't want a Physician who floats across the floor. I want to be involved in my own care, I want the physician to listen, and I want the physician to be respectful. Dr. Yu-Fleming needs to step back and watch if she cannot interact as a physician should. She created the very opposite of how how I see my physician and has lost me as a patient. I will not use Porter Hospital or its physicians until I am given a written apology. In any event I will no longer see Dr. Candice Yu-Fleming. I will not refer friends or family to this provider. I already have a mother in law. Spot taken
