    Children's House Montessori School

Very nice set up in historic hikkcresf neighborhood. It is very convenient to work for UMAS and ACH…read moreemployees. Excellent hours. Very good approach to early childhood education with diverse group of students and teachers. Both of our children go here.

Overall, I give this school 4/5 stars at this time because, for me, the most important aspects of…read morechildcare are quite strong, and there is some room for improvement. We've been there 1.5 years. The strengths start with the staff--almost all staff are engaged (read: not on their phones, willing to conference and work with parents), and pleasant. Another strength is their policies -- the ratios they require are better than DHS, they implement and advertise policies for safety (eg, parents don't be on cell phone at pick up). Plus, the Montessori curriculum is actually implemented in classrooms--it's not just a daycare holding place. We moved from another daycare and my child's physical and cognitive development skyrocketed when we Changed schools. Now, the school is in a huge old house, so it's not fancy in material but they regularly repair and have an excellent playground the kids visit 1-2 times daily. I find it perfectly quaint. The limits right now are on communication about big changes. They have a monthly newsletter that's brief and helpful. They lack other infrastructure for communicating with parents that really works--some have a Facebook page, some rely on texting parents...but it's not consistent or multifaceted enough to catch everybody (eg some people email, some need flyers). I've learned about big changes by noticing something and asking, Like a new teacher joining or combining two classrooms. My other issue is with nutrition, which plays a big role in child behavior, mood, and development . "Snack" is often processed food with few nutrients (eg Cheez its, graham crackers), and hot lunch is better but not great. Now, we compensate by bringing our child's lunch, but she eats most or more of her allotted sugar each day at school snacks and doesn't get many important nutrients from the food provided.

Don't send your kid here if they can go to kindergarten or a higher grade. Especially if they're…read moresensitive, insecure, mean, etc. They will HATE it there I promise you. Little kids throw rocks, the best teachers I've gotten while there are fully gone now. They couldn't even deal with the kids, so I bet your kid can't either. Also, tell me WHY my friend got S3XU4LLY HARASSED THERE. AND WHY KIDS KEEP ON MESSING IN ANT PILES. why can't y'all be more aware of what's going on. You know kids mess with the water and ant piles so keep your damn eyes over there. one of you. Please. I usually have to stop them or tell you that they are messing with that stuff. Why? I'm a KID. I (was) one of YOUR kids. YOU should be making sure to stop them from doing that not me. Get off your phones and work. Work so then the kids don't get hurt. Work so then you can keep your job. Also you need to start punishing kids properly because whatever you do to punish them OBVIOUSLY isn't helping their behavior. And if a kid come up saying that another kid hit them or something or if you notice only when the victim is using self defense/making the right equal and they try to tell you that they were messed with first, believe them. Don't just brush it off with "what I see is what happened" s. BELIEVE THEM. now it does depend on the kids involved but if you know them enough you'll know. That's all for now. Long overdue review. While my wife was dropping our kids off, the lady in the kitchen cooking came…read moreout & told me that my youngest (2 years old) was being neglected in class & that she would have to go in and take care of him all the time bc they would always ignore him & leave him on the floor crying. When my wife was told this, she immediately told them that i would be calling corporate over this & an hour later i received a phone call saying our kids were no longer welcome to go to Childcare Network. Then, i was forced to pay the rest of the time anyway even though they were kicked out prior to the months end. The Director, at the time of all this, was even there when my wife gave birth to our kids, so i think that speaks for itself on how much they'd care about your kids. People working there and the corporate office are negligent and will stick it to the customer before admitting fault.
