We've visited a few daycares in the Bayside and Flushing area, and while they all seemed nice enough, there was just something that didn't feel quite right.
Then we visited Bayside Bundles of Joy (BBJ) and right from the start, I just knew that this was the place for my baby. My first impression of the daycare - bright, clean, homey, and spacious. Leidy is warm, friendly and kind. When we went for our first meeting with her, there was a girl who was nervous about seeing us, since we're strangers to her. I was happy to see that they held and comforted her as if she was their own child. My son loves to be held and I felt that they would provide that same comfort to him as well. BBJ offers 2 playdates, where for the first one a caretaker stays with the child for a few hours for the child to get acclimated. For the second playdate, the child remains in daycare without a caretaker for a few hours, with the caretaker on standby in case the baby is in distress.
Although my son did pretty well on both of his playdates, my fear was realized on his first day of enrollment when he had a total meltdown because he'd never been away from home in another person's care. But Leidy was super patient and understanding and worked with us for about a month until my son felt comfortable and safe attending without us. I've been told that it's normal for babies to cry and that they'll adjust in a week or 2, but Leidy saw that our son was especially attached to us and needed some extra transition period. Now our baby boy loves BBJ and it's such a delight to see videos of him having fun, asking for hugs from Leidy and her staff, and enjoying learning new things. Leidy is great at keeping parents posted of each child's daily progress, so I'm never wondering about when my son is eating, napping, etc. It brings smiles to my face during work when I see that my son is having a great day.
Leidy is also meticulous about keeping the place as clean and sanitary as possible. For example, as soon as you enter the daycare, she makes sure that everyone washes their hand. She and her staff put on gloves for every diaper change, places a liner on the changing mat and after changing, they wash the baby's hands and then disinfects the changing station. Each and every time. Also, on our first meeting with Leidy, she made sure to keep our baby separated from the other children already in her care since she didn't have our baby's vaccination history yet and didn't want to risk getting anyone sick. I was thoroughly impressed. I've heard that once you send your child to daycare, expect a lot of sick days and I know that it'll happen, but I feel like at BBJ, maybe the sick days will be a little less than if we'd sent him to a different daycare.
Most of the other daycares we've visited had 2 caretakers watching 12 children. At BBJ, there are 3 caretakers. This was another factor in our decision that BBJ was the daycare of our choice. Aside from Leidy, there's Fatima and Elizabeth, who have been with Leidy for about 7 and 4 years. So you'll get more focused care for your child. All three ladies have been wonderful and loving to our son and you can see that they genuinely care about the children under their care. We feel truly blessed and lucky to have found BBJ. We highly recommend BBJ to anyone looking for high-quality childcare!
