I was referred to Dr. Korcz by a friend after being disappointed by experiences with two other optometrists in the city and initially began seeing her at the Freret St location a few years ago. I continue to go back yearly and refer friends because she has been outstanding. The new location is lovely, much more spacious, and full of natural light. Dr. Korcz is professional, comprehensive, and generous with her time. That being said, one should expect to wait their turn with her since she gives each patient her full attention. With the exception of one slight, her staff has been very professional and lovely. They kindly call promptly with visit reminders and when contacts are ready for pick-up. On top of all of this, there are Saturday hours twice a month. This has been so incredibly helpful given my hectic work hours, that often prevent self-care. sometime about two months ago my vision started to experience some degree of consistent blurriness and i felt that maybe it would be a good idea to go to the eye doctor for the first time in probably over twenty years. I poked around google for various optical places and found that most places had a standard sort of review base of some people being fine and others not. Somewhere along the way i discovered this place and found that although it had very few reviews, all of the reviews were positive, so i opted to set up an appointment and see what it was all about. I ended up going for two visits - one as the basic checkup and a follow up checkup - and i was impressed enough with my visit that it felt right to add my voice to the others of how fantastic this place is. The optometrist was pleasant but professional, casual but efficient. The vision test she gave me was extensive and at the conclusion of the first visit she told me that i *could* get glasses with a light prescription, the reality was that i probably wouldn't need them for another 1-3 years. She diagnosed my recent blurry vision issues to allergy problems and prescribed for me a particular brand of eye drops, but she also made a point to mention that depending on the pharmacy it could be pretty expensive and gave me the name of the over the counter equivalent should the former be too expensive for me. I was incredibly impressed by this as she had no particular reason or investment to do this, but she did it very matter-of-factly that made it clear that she has her patients' bests interests in mind. In the follow-up visit, the optometrist recommended that i get a preventative glaucoma exam based on very early indications of raised IOP. She did a great job of explaining glaucoma in layman's terms (because i didn't know anything about it), about the symptoms, and about how while i showed early symptoms it could merely be that i was born with a slightly higher than normal IOP, so it would be good to do a test to get a base level reading and then look at it again in five years. It was the combination of all of those factors that gives me great confidence in her as an optometrist - her clear expertise in her field and keeping up to date with newer technology or trends in her profession, her lack of personal agenda or incentive, her ease of being able to relate her expertise to any level of customer, and her overall pleasant and professional demeanor makes the reputation that she's earned by those few reviewers well deserved and makes some of the small cosmetic negatives of the place negligible. read more

They told mey glasses would be on about 10 days . I contacted them after calling a few times. And they said they never ordered my glasses and my insurance wasn't taken there. I had originally made an appointment months ago and before my appointment, my cat scratched me in my eye. Even though I had never been in before, the optometrist called me back and gave advice. I was totally impressed by her willingness to go above and beyond for a new patient. It then took me some time to reschedule my appointment, but I remembered her doing that so even though I had moved across town, I still decided to come here. The receptionist was friendly and super nice not just to me, but to everyone else who came in. The optometrist was also very professional and pleasant. In fact, everyone working there seemed to be in just a general good mood and have a positive attitude. They were also reasonably-priced. I decided to come here based on yelp and that their eye exam was the cheapest I could find (I think it was actually cheaper than walmart.. or about the same at least.) The whole experience was totally smooth and comfortable. The doctor was very professional but friendly. I felt more comfortable here than at some of the fancier places I've been to. They don't have a great selection of frames in house, but I was able to find a super cheap frame that I actually liked. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I ended up with glasses that I like and I spent probably half of what I would have spent elsewhere. Throughout my visit it felt as though they only cared about getting money out of me. I gave them a broken pair of glasses to fix, she looked at them for two seconds before deciding they were unfixable and requesting I buy a new pair. After this experience I went elsewhere where they were able to fix my glasses. In addition, there is a brand of contacts that I prefer but she insisted that I try this other brand for dry eyes. This caused multiple attempts to try different contacts which also required multiple appointments that I had to pay for. During this excessive procedure I was trying to communicate to them about the necessity of these appointments that was responded with attitude. I have not been to an optometrist probably since I was a little kid, so I had no idea what to expect. I was seen right on time for my appointment, and the staff was courteous while I waited. The doctor (not Dr. Korcz, but another doctor-forgot her name!) who did my appointment was very thorough and answered every question that I had, even though I am sure they were extremely basic questions. The doctor was patient, polite, and even entertaining as she possessed a great sense of humor. Not only that, but the staff stayed after closing hours to help me pick out glasses, even going so far as digging through stock in the back that was not out on display. Just giving them another great review after I went for my yearly checkup! Whenever I call, Debe knows me by name/voice and I only call twice a year. She's awesome. As an example, I got new insurance and called to make an appointment and didn't have my card on me or recall the name of the new carrier for vision coverage. She spent at least 15-20 minutes on the phone with me, going into the computer system and finding out my insurance carrier, getting the number, and telling me if I was even covered (which I was luckily!). It was just refreshing customer service for anywhere, really. She could have easily told me to just find out my insurance on my own and call her back, but she went the extra mile. Dr. Korcz is great too, of course -- she makes seeing the eye doctor pleasant (even the puff of air test!). There was no wait for this appointment either. Then, they promptly emailed me my glasses prescription (within 10 minutes of me leaving) since I'm ordering cheap ones on warby parker (and they didn't care that I wasn't going through them, just warned me the glass will be thicker, which is fine since I only wear my glasses at night, which they remembered) and they ordered my contacts which came within a week. I was in desperate need for some new glasses when I decided to go onto Yelp instead of trusting those BOGO deals advertised on TV. This place had the best reviews and is conveniently located so I went to check them out. Scheduling was super easy, and there wasn't a wait when I got there for my appointment. Filled out a couple of forms then waited for less than a minute before the doctor came out. In the small world that's New Orleans, turns out I actually knew her from working together a decade ago. As she was checking my eyes, we played catch up with everyone we knew. We both agreed that our former place of employment hasn't been the same since the storm. And neither of us have been back in ages. The exam- even with the catch up- was under 20 minutes. I told her I found my eye doctor! Then my favorite part of my trip began. I examined almost every frame they had in stock. They had tons that were under $100 and even had another room in the back for the ones under $79. I ended up grabbing one from the back since I knew I was going to spend an arm and a leg on my lens. And I was right! Lenses were $300 because of my prescription and astigmatism. I decided to get the nicest ones they've got. No coke lenses for me! It took me a couple of weeks to figure out my insurance coverage and which credit card to put everything on. They worked with me the entire time and were just generally very nice and patient. Glasses were finally ordered, and I was quoted 5-7 business days. It ended up taking less than 3 days! Will definitely be back! (1 star was taken off because of the parking situation. Had to park around the block because I couldn't figure out if the attached driveway is only for staff or for customers too.) read more

I made a Yelp account specifically because I've had such a bad experience at Bright Eyes. I had to call at least 5 times and talk to 3 different people to get a copy of my prescription. After all that they didn't even send the right one. When I expressed my frustration to the doctor, she didn't listen and insinuated that I was lying. I've always had to wait at least 30 minutes to see the doctor. The last time I was there I heard the receptionists accidentally skip a family that had been waiting at least 40 minutes and called a different patient back that just walked in. 4/5 old school value. this was a trip! it's this tiny little thing on the far end of freret that i don't really get to, but i'm glad yelp led me here! my silly self lost my glasses, and the rx had expired, so it was time for a new one. after a little wait, i was sitting in a chair for my 4pm. this was like a trip down the past. there was the colorblock E, some physical manipulatives, left -eye, right-eye. at first i was worried about this ending up in some error, but the time we took to check so many different things was comforting. when i told them that i wanted to order WP online it was totally cool and they got me my PD on my way out! unlike other exams in recent memory, i felt that every step here was clearly being explained to me. i don't think i got this level of detail when i got my first ever eye exam years ago, and wish i did! it came out to $69 for the exam (cheaper than costco!), and even though i didn't have vision insurance, they asked if i was a student for possible discount. i'm not, but i really appreciate how much they work with their customers. read more

I've been going to Dr Michelle since 2008, ever since a neighbor recommended her (though we live across town). She is very thorough, helpful, and always explains everything clearly so you can understand it. She reduced my prescription strength right away which helped me a lot doing computer work. Recently I had bad floaters and she explained the cause and also recommended an ophthalmologist, although she said there was little that can be done due to the cause. After coming down with conjunctivitis, I contacted Bright Eyes as soon as they opened at 9 AM. They said they could see me at 10 AM. I got there on time, and although I had to wait a little while, the exam was very quick, and they sent my prescription for antibiotics to the pharmacy right away. They also wrote me a copy of my prescription and told me where to go to get glasses same-day (to replace the contacts I can't wear until healed). While I spend a fair amount of time on Freret, I'd never noticed Bright Eyes Optique until I was in search of a new contact lens prescription. I had a morning appointment and was promptly helped by friendly staff. Only five minutes after arriving, I was sitting in the exam room with Dr. Michelle Korcz, receiving the most thorough eye exam I've ever had. I don't usually mention this in Yelp reviews, but I'm a med student, which means I notice lots of small, annoying things health care providers do. I'm not a fan of doctors who zip through exams, without explanations or follow-up and thankfully, Dr. Korcz wasn't one of those docs. Lots of feedback, a set of trial lenses, and an exam that didn't feel rushed. She even asked about my insurance, and said that if my coverage didn't go through, she'd offer a student discount. read more

I rarely ever write poor reviews for businesses, however in this situation I was extremely frustrated with my experience at Bright Eyes. I went there as a new patient for an annual eye exam to get a year long prescription of contact lenses. Although the service during the appointment was fine and the staff was friendly, the prescription they measured me for was WAY off. They had over corrected my left eye and under corrected my right. I'm no medical professional, but I know that is fairly rare to have your eye sight get significantly better ( or to under correct for that matter) unless you are adjusting to aging and trying to reduce sharpness and acuity. I tested out the contacts for a few days and immediately noticed my vision was much more blurred compared to my last prescription. I called to explain my situation, and the front desk and staff seemed very annoyed with me that they had to schedule me again and reorder another supply of contacts. I went back for a second time, let them know my past prescription and how I didn't think I should be under corrected but they assured me that the machine was right and they couldn't prescribe me anything I did not test for. I had called a third time explaining that my vision still felt blurry, especially in school where I need to see a white board from a distance, to which they responded that the prescription will never be exactly perfect. I felt as though I had no other options as my insurance only covers an eye exam and contacts for the year and thought maybe my eyes had changed that much and they just needed to adjust. A year later and my eyes did not adjust, I continued to have blurry visions and headaches. I could only confidently write this review a year after my eye exam at Bright Eyes, and once I had gone to a different optometrist to confirm my suspicion. The new optometrist tested my eye sight and confirmed that my last prescription was way off and adjusted me to the right one. Again, I hate to write a poor review because I understand that things happen (maybe it was my fault I was responding incorrectly to the machine or squinting more than I should have) but after having one exam at my new optometrists, seeing the ease and accuracy of their testing methods makes me think differently. And as a student who is financially constrained for medical services, its very frustrating to be prescribed a year's worth of contacts that you are unhappy with. read more
