I want to clarify that this review is for the waxing services, not the hair salon portion. I had a 1:45 appointment but wasn't called back until almost 2:15. I was told the delay was the front desk's fault, but the front desk person didn't even seem to be there--probably on lunch--so I'm not sure how that added up. A hairstylist even noticed the situation and went back twice to check, and the second time she mentioned that they still hadn't called me back, which was concerning to her. When I finally received the service, it felt rushed and incomplete. On top of that, the price listed online was $15, but once I was in the room, I was told a higher price. Just awful. Brien missed a quarter of my head while doing my roots. I went twice more in the following two weeks for shampoo and style and his lack of engagement was obvious from how I looked walking out of there, thankfully it fell out within an hour. I can't do my own hair, but even I could have done better than this. Brien told me "I just can't work with your hair." His job burnout cost me about $300 total. Found this place when I was searching for a place back in February for a very special bday party dinner. And they set me up with hair stylist Bob. He gave me a beautiful hair do and wash. He was super sweet and honestly just clicked with him and he's got the best positive attitude. So decided to come back and have my hair highlighted, cut and style and I absolutely loved my hair he is amazing and I wasn't there for more then 2 hours loved it. The place is super clean , and open and the staff is nice. I'm absolutely in love with the owners Pup I believe it is. What a beautiful day today was. I started with my bi weekly haircut from Daniel. I trust him implicitly with my haircut and he always does the most amazing job. Then I decided to get a full facial from Christina. I haven't had a facial and probably over eight years. It has taken about 9 months for my hair to grow out from a cut there from Bryan. I had asked for shoulder length bob to be trimmed to a chin length A-line bob with very minimal layering in the back. I didn't get anything close to that. The back was so severely layered that it is just now able to be cut correctly. Don't ask to have a typical women's cut here! read more

Found this salon on Yelp! I've been living in Palm Springs for about 4 years and have yet to find a salon/stylist that I love. And after this appointment, I'm still looking.... Jamie was my stylist, based on the fact that he had an opening at the time I was available. He was nice enough, but I felt like, throughout the entire cut, that he wasn't particularly interested in me or talking to me, but he did spend the whole hour having loud conversations with everyone else in the salon, which made me feel weird. I had brought in two pictures and was getting about nine inches cut off, so this was a pretty drastic haircut. But I did not feel like he did a good job executing the cut. He told me he was all done and started taking off the cape, but it was not what I requested at all(an a-line cut, shorter in the back with layers). When I asked if I could get a little more cut off the back, he bristled a little, but complied. Once the he'd done it, he said "oh, yeah, looks much better...I'm so glad I decided to do that", like it was his idea! At the end of the haircut, he gave me a hug, like we were longtime friends, but as he was hugging me, was talking to other people. Again, I felt really awkward and like he did not really care about me. When I got home, I realized that my haircut was not that great. I think in the salon, I had been all caught up in the total length I was losing and did not notice that no layers had been put in my hair, despite the fact that he mentioned several times during the haircut how thick my hair was and how much hair I have. I ended up with an all-one-length bob that was heavy and made me feel frumpy and old- not the cute summer cut I was hoping for. I also was not pleased with Stephanie, the receptionist. She was short with me when I called to make an appointment and then during the "checkout" after the cut. Again, I did not feel comfortable in any of my dealings with Jamie, Stephanie or Brien O'Brian Salon. Go to Raphael's on Palm Canyon instead!!! read more

Javier was a terrible "stylist" and even worse colorists. Amongst many other things like his not listening.... - he BURNED the heck out my scalp and when I was close to tears telling him whatever he just did was burning too much- he said "that is the price of being blond honey. " Excuse me? But i've been an un-natural blond for 20+ years and no one has EVER burned my scalp. Then again ive never had someone pull a rookie move and use straight bleach as root color.... Head was tender for 2 weeks afterward... Just terrible experience with a cocky under-skilled novice who should go back to beautyschool and also develop some bedside manner. read more

Never again. My last cut and color was perhaps the third worst in my life. I looked like a chopped up Raggedy-Ann doll. The journey from Brown to Blonde left defined bars of orange-ish colors under the back, and part was still untouched by the coloring at all. To even a novice stylist the defects were glaringly obvious. Janice was not honest enough to show me the damage she had done. My hair was and still is breaking off. I had to pay $400 for color correction, a switch to Kerastase Products, and a much more renowned stylist. I am now happier and regaining confidence in the hair industry. read more

Made an appointment on a late Friday Evening to get the Brazilian Blow Out done on Saturday morning at 9:00 am. I arrived early (surprise, surprise) and was able to tour "The Corridor" which is the complex that houses Brien O'Brien Salon, Koffi Palm Springs and a few more gift shops. There is parking in the rear but I parked across from Our Lady of Solitude because I knew God would watch over my ride. I walked into Koffi to get my drink then exited through the rear which is a dog park of sorts with grass, tables and dogs! I awaited the Salon to open and arrived inside at 9:00 am promptly and was greeted promptly. I was set up with my Stylist Natalie Noel and I had to inform her of my time crunch, she obliged and we began. Process: - Deep Scrub to remove all product from hair - coat hair in Brazilian Blow Out formula - blow dry hair with formula - flat iron hair with formula - Rinse hair - apply formula conditioner treatment - go under hair dryer for 15 mins w/ conditioner in hair - rinse and wash - Blow Dry It is a long process that is worth every penny, if you get the right stylist at a worthwhile salon it makes the long process all the more bare able. Natalie is a great stylist and worked hard to meet my unrealistic dead line, a quick blow dry and I was out the door on my way to a baby shower. Brien O'Brien is offering the treatment for $200.00 for new clients and $300.00 for returning clients. read more

I love this place. First, they carry Bumble & Bumble products and are an exclusive salon which means that Brien is going to Manhattan this week to get the B&B cut/style/color update. And B&B products rock. Second, it is the sort of small salon where you get to meet everyone. Not one of the factory joints that have a snobby posture. Every staff member introduced themselves to me - and best of all, so did the "shop dog". a five month old brindle French Bulldog. Third, the location is easy to find and park and is done well. Great floral arrangements, lots of indirect light and the hip contemporary sort of of decor that defines Palm Springs style. Fourth - and most importantly, these folks know how to do hair. They understand cut, color and don't push product. Janis (20 years at Sassoon) cut and colored my hair and it is one of the best cuts I have had in years - and it was half the price I had been paying at another local salon! This is truly a gem. When going someplace for an extended period of time, I'm always careful to get recommendations ahead of time. Planning this vacation needed special attention. It was going to take two appointments and careful root coloring. I went so far as to have my salon in Chicago call the color company, Schartzkoph, to find out who they might recommend in Palm Springs. Brian, the owner of BrianOBrian, was highly recommended by the company and he was indeed wonderful. Very attentive, careful, and didn't try to push any other services.
