When you drive into the main parking lot, a staff person will step out to collect a $7 per vehicle entry fee. Lots of pluses. First, the area has clean restrooms and a well-marked trail. Second, it's a peaceful and quiet setting as you walk along the Happy Valley trail. Third, we saw many kayakers on the lake and a few people fishing by the dock and along the left bank of the lake. However, I was surprised by the low level of lake water (you can see exposed rock). This is a family-friendly location to rent a kayak or take a peaceful walk along the reservoir.

As you approach the park area, there's a $7/car fee, that goes to the Water Authority. (The reservoir supplies water for the city of Roanoke). We were there in mid-October, and the area was beautiful with the lake reflecting the colors of the changing leaves on the nearby hillside trees. There are many recreational opportunities from fishing on the piers, to renting single- or double-kayaks (through late October), and hiking the nearby trails. Clean restrooms are available.

My best friend in high school lived nearby for a decade so we spent A LOT of time here - eating, shopping, walking around in Kroger, you name it - teenagers who can't drive or get bored will do whatever. Lately I know there are additions since I moved away a decade ago - like Petco, Wildflour Café, Bubblecake, a BBQ joint, etc. I stopped in yesterday to get cupcakes for my husband at Bubblecake and went inside the mall and downstairs to use the restroom - I was impressed. It has clearly been updated recently and looks pristine and new, the bathrooms were well-kept and clean and the hallway was bright and airy with white paint, new light fixtures, and tons of bright light from outside via large windows. On the way back upstairs I saw the Hippie store and the newer Upcycled Gifts and poked my head inside to look at all the hand-made items by the friendly owner who greeted me warmly as I browsed. It actually made me want to spend a little more time at this mall --- sadly I had a 4 hour drive home - but next time I'm in town I'll stop in to walk around and see the new shops. Tons and tons of parking, central location and easy as pie to find just off the Colonial Ave exit from I-81.

It was easy to navigate and there is a traffic light for entering and exiting from Colonial Avenue. I liked the "Exit" sign which did make it a little easier to determine which was the correct aisle. The center is anchored by a Kroger supermarket. There is a variety of restaurants, fitness center, retail, professional and medical shops. The center was clean and it wasn't too loud like other centers I've been to in the past. They offer Monday specials and other special events. Good music. Affordable skate rental and laser tag, arcade and play zone equipment for younger children. The snack bar is affordable. We will definitely be back for the next homeschool skate and are so grateful they are willing to sponsor such a great event for homeschooled children in the valley.

Outdoor fun for the family…read more Layman Family Farm is the go-to place for fall festivities with the kiddies. A working farm, they really put together quite the fun time for the littles and mom and dad will have a great time too. From corn mazes to hayrides and everything in between, there is something for all the kids to do. You can get food and farmstand items as well. It is a great way to spend a few fun filled hours with the kids and make some memories. Plenty of parking is available. The place gets busy but never that crowded due to the sheer size. Go! Have some fun.

They were the specials for the day I believe but they were delicious. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed which is nice and they even have these cards for getting to know people. Ultimately just a great place to go grab a coffee with some friends or someone new! Also the staff were friendly and the color scheme inside was also a nice touch! I knew it was by the church as well but it is a part of it as well which was cool to see!

The admission over July 4th weekend is only $7.78 (steal) for everything you get. Orginally price shows $13. You must bring your own towels or you can pay them $8 for one. The little concession stand was nice, we saw people getting whole pizzas, but they had kid combos for $5 or adult combos for $8 - such as a hotdog, fries and a big drink. They have other combos as well. Ice cream too! Overall, we had a great time and I talked with a few locals as well that expressed the same. If you're in the area or just visiting check it out!

Only real con was that I wish the inside pool was open at the same time to spread out the guests, and nearly double the amount of slides. I heard there are hours when you can use both, but they're limited and the park is only open Thu-Sun.
