She made it clear she wasn't making anymore doughnuts, and the store is closed for tomorrow. Why act like new customers are such an inconvenience? It's actually kind of remarkable how she could make shopping for a treat a bad time. So my conclusion is this. The doughnuts are good, the lady is a bit of a bear, and her customer service is scat.

For a few minutes we tried to tell her exactly what a sweetheart cake is and what we wanted on it. She sort of shoo'd us away and told us to go look at the crusty, fake cakes on display in the shop. We left instead. I was so disappointed in her customer service that I'm giving her two stars. Her selection of product is great. However, perhaps because she's probably the biggest private cake maker in Bismarck she thinks she can be sassy and pretentious.

Once you get beyond the looks the cake was decidedly average. The cake itself was fine. It was neither poor nor distinguished. Just an average cake, probably about like you'd get at a super market. It's clear they're not using some world-class chocolate here or fantastic ingredients. So if "fine" works for you, I think you'll be pleased. (I believe he called it a quesito but I could be wrong.) The owner also stressed that the desserts in the case change in variety daily so what may be there one day won't be there the next. All in all - this business is fantastic in every way (right down to the fact that the room was absolutely spotless and sparkling clean) and we will be back next time we are in Bismarck!
