First impressions count, and lately I've been finding anything to do with the dental profession in Calgary has been lacking in the customer service field. I moved from Ontario and they are a different crowd there when it comes to pleasing their patients so I've become so accustomed to that. In finding a new dental practice I was finding many were not accommodating to patients' schedules. A lot were open from 10:00am and only open 4 days a week. That being said, I am so please to have found White Summit Dental Hygiene because they're open from 7:00am - 3:30pm 3 days a week, and by appointment on Saturday 9:00am - 4:30pm. Rocell is so thorough with the cleaning. My appointment was mostly scaling of hard deposits and I was surprised to find my main issue was on the upper front teeth in behind. I have bonded lingual retainers and very rarely do any hygienists even bother taking the time to work in behind there. She educated me on so many aspects of gum health I never even knew about. I get cleanings a few times a year and any new info is a huge deal!! She even recommended that I come back in 3 months' time to address my early onset gingivitis. Not only is she super thorough, she is super neat and clean. Sometimes in the past I would get nasty splashes of water all over my face and water dripping down the side of my mouth. Not with Rocell! She keeps it all neat and allows me so many opportunities to spit so I'm not choking on saliva. Weirdly enough, I am looking forward to my next visit for teeth cleaning. I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a good dental hygienist. Rocell is able to do everything just short of fillings and any other major dental work. For that stuff I'm sure she can refer to a dentist if you don't already have one.

I have literally never been to anyone else in my life because my old hygienist was THAT amazing. However, I moved here and needed a new one... Rocelle, the owner/hygienist of White Summit did not disappoint! I went to my appointment expecting to be disappointed because no one would be as good as what i was used to... I was wrong! She was actually BETTER than the lady who's been cleaning my teeth for the past 26 years! Rocelle was extremely thorough. Most of the time, a teeth cleaning is allotted a time slot of one hour and if you need more time, you have to come back for another appointment. Not here. Rocelle cleaned my teeth so thoroughly and even though it took an hour and a half, she did not cut me short on time! My teeth felt like silk after she finished. Rocelle's personality is exactly what makes her so special. She's extremely kind. I mean, she's so kind and warm that it's memorable. She makes a great impression and always makes sure you know what she's doing during the cleaning. She loves to answer any questions and offers guidance whenever you ask. It's incredibly rare to find a hygienist who's talented AND a caring, kind human being! She's quick to notice when something is painful and applies a numbing gel immediately. She's attentive and very intelligent (again, very rare). I already had my second teeth cleaning the other day and was just as pleased with the result as my first time. Thanks Rocelle! I have been traumatized. But the responsible part of me knew I had to go and get my teeth cleaned sometime. My Mother-in-law recommended Dr. Jay. So I booked an appointment. I told the receptionist about my fears and she assured me they would be gentle and take good care of me. I have forgotten her name, but she sure was a nice lady. When I got to the clinic she greeted me and asked me to wait for a bit. Soon this middle aged Asian man came out, introduced himself as Dr. Jay and invited me back. He sat me down and told me he would only do what was necessary to clean my teeth, nothing more. He showed me how they use a high pressured water pic instead of those dreadful metal ones. He was humming and chatting the whole time he did the cleaning, soon enough it was over! He told me I had a cavity that needed to be fixed, but I could wait for a bit to do it. He made me feel so comfortable that it didn't seem so bad that I had to come back. The cost of the cleaning was so cheap! I returned a few weeks later to get my cavity, again I was treated so well. Even when I started to tear up in the chair, Dr. Jay made a joke and got me laughing. When the needle came he was very calm and got me to take a couple big breaths. After he made a joke about me not dying, again making me laugh. The cavity was fixed quickly. Again the cost of the filling was the cheapest I have ever paid! The affordability of his work is huge to me, since I am one of those people who doesn't have extended health benefits. needless to say I walked out of there with a smile on my half frozen face! Dr. Jay is the best dentist I have ever seen, I highly recommend him if you have any phobias about dentistry!! Or even if you are just looking for a good dentist!

I've never had a cavity and only once have I required any extra assistance at a dentist (lawn chairs and teeth don't mix). I'll give you a moment while you read the "no cavities" line again. Yeah, that's right. So needless to say, going to the dentist is usually enjoyable, although boring in most cases. I'm not saying I want a cavity, but before moving to Calgary 4 years ago I would have gladly taken one just to spice things up. Dentists, suffice to say, make for boring visits. Consider Dr. Jay the entertainment. He's Asian (bet you got that from the name), his English isn't great, and he's older. And he's also a dentist. Combine all these things, and you get an Asian Doctor who came straight out of a Monty Python skit. Now, Dr. Jay isn't for everyone. He doesn't hold back, especially if he believes you have a good sense of humor. The first time I saw him, on my fiances recommendation, he told me my teeth were so nice I could star in Brokeback Mountain. I'm good fun, enjoy completely inappropriate humor, and have absolutely no problem being told my teeth are nice enough to play a gay cowboy in a movie. But, I'm not every guy. And I'm certainly not every guy in Calgary. That said, aside from being a completely competent dentist, Dr. Jay is one of the funniest people I've ever met. I strongly recommend you call their office if you're looking for a dentist. I have no idea if they are accepting new patients, but if they have a waiting list, get on it! Dr. Jay is worth the wait.

Going to the endodontist is never a fun experience because usually that means some sort of tooth…read moresurgery is involved...however, Dr. McKenzie and her entire staff make it such a pleasant and easy experience that I actually leave feeling better (not worse!) I had to go because I got a root canal done a few years back that was not done well and my tooth was killing me (a really bad sign for a tooth that is supposed to have no feeling..) Anyway, I was recommended to Dr. McKenzie's office to get this done. Her staff not only called the day after receiving the referral, they continued to follow up weeks later when I hadn't called back (an issue with my voice mail). The staff were prompt, courteous and just generally friendly about scheduling as well as payment (and paperwork). Dr. McKenzie herself is a great endodonist. She is clearly knowledgeable and loves her job. She took the time to explain the situation to me (without being pejorative) and answered all of my questions. She does her work quickly (and as painlessly as possible). My tooth already feels leagues better and I cannot thank her enough. The office has now moved to 815 17th Ave SW. Although it's expensive, you really get quality service and I know that this is one root canal that wont have to be re-done in a few years.

Easily the nicest office set up of any dentist I have been to. I would very much not like to have a root canal done, but I had to, it would be with her.
