Went here for the first time today, hubby and I got bottomless drinks (hallelujah!) we both had carveries which, aside from the roasties being a bit of a rubbery texture and the gravy being too runny, it was great! My son had the pasta and meatballs with chips and veggie sticks and he all but cleared his plate. Play area could do without those damn machines that makes kids crazy for money to play them but the soft play definitely give us peace and quiet to eat our dinner and catch up with our friend. As said on other reviews the food can be really hit and miss in here. It's really cheap, but some of the food definitely reflects this. The bbq chicken melt is tasty!!! Their buffet specials are good, plenty of choice and eat as much as you like. The choc fudge cake is amazing, worth going for one of these and a cappuccino! There's a kids play area at one side, kids running about everywhere so if you have some with you up that end is handy as they can go on in, but if you aren't too fussed on kids or the noise best place to sit is probably the opposite end. Called in one night and there was a pub quiz on, the atmosphere was fab and we won a bottle of wine! The drink isn't expensive especially considering the location on the harbour. This Brewers Fayre is situated alongside Carrickfergus Premier Inn, with is right on the seafront in Carrick, and beside the castle, so in terms of position, this is a winner! They have lots of outside benches and is a lovely spot to sit and have a drink on a sunny day, and watch the world go by. The inside of the bar/restaurant is large and spacious with lots of tables, but it is laid out in a way where you can have privacy at your table, which is good. They also have a kid's play area which is great for the little ones. I've taken stars away though for the food. It's cheap, and the one time I got food there, was absolutely awful - maybe I got unlucky. I had the 'loaded nachos' which had obviously been exposed to air for too long and were soft. They were also salted to the extreme, and a handful of grated cheese which tasted like nothing was thrown on top, unmelted. Guacamole also tasted like nothing. If you know what is good for you don't eat here!!! You have to stand in line to order the food and then wait about an hour to get it. When it comes an hour later it doesn't taste like much and guess what - if you don't finish your portion and you want to get a "to go box" they don't have it? So good luck! Not to mention the fly that I had to sher my food with (at least someone enjoyed it) read more

Cheap and hearty food! Great place to take the kids and have a coffee or a bite to eat in peace! Can be a bit manic just after schools finish! Some of the deserts are lovely! They hold themed nights through the week like curry nights, fish and chip nights etc! Nice view of the harbour and there Are tables outside to sit when the weather is good for a tipple! read more

After a visit last night I have to update my review, the food was better and it was quieter than id expected the play area was quiet too and I like the way the toddler area is separated from the play area for larger kids. Thought I would update my review. I've bought food in here a few times and it is nice but some dishes aren't that great like the burger it was gristly and the fillings were lacking but today I got rump steak and chips with 2 small onion rings. The rump steak was cooked to my liking and tasted quite nice, nice and smoky flavour. The chips were nice, the onion rings I wasn't so keen on they were like shop bought but they were crispy which is good. I got Americano coffee for £2.55 and its unlimited after that, fill up as many times as you like. I got a deal on the rump steaks I got two of them for £11.99, good deal. There is a children's play area to the back of the restaurant which is good, small but good for children. Although the bigger kids tend to run into the toddler area which isn't too good. I think the toddler area should be cordoned off just for the use of toddlers. Seating area outside the restaurant. Lots of car parking outside. read more

I love this place!! The Brewers Fayre is a fantastic family orientated restaurant! Its really quite big so you don't feel like your sitting on top of one another and the decor may be a little dated but not in a grubby way, more homely. The menu is really big offering a whole range of things from pie to wraps, burgers to pasta. They operate much in the same way as whetherspoons (ie. take note of your table number and order and pay for your food at the bar) but the food is much more upmarket than good old spoons! The portions are big and the food really nice. I got the cottage pie which came with peas and it was lovely. Really full of flavour and although I was hoping for extra mash on the side, I didn't really need it as it was really filling. The main attraction here for families is that at the back pf the restaurant they have a play area, not just a kids table with games but a full on adventure land thing. When I was there it was full of families and this certainly had to have been why. The prices are cheap and the food good. Topped with great service its a must. The only downside I found was that I couldn't fit my pram into the baby room and put down the change table as it is a tight squeeze, but not a big complaint but as I was on my own it was tricky. read more

In a hurry? Don't order dessert! We arrived at 1.20pm without a booking and were seated in the bar area because the restaurant was busy. This is after I explained we had a 2.30pm cinema booking so needed to be out before then. Our meals arrived quickly after that - about 1.45pm and finished by 2.00pm by which time I'd sent one of the kids to the bar to say we'd finished and we were ready for dessert, which we'd ordered with the mains. As it's basically a "fast food" restaurant, we weren't concerned when 2.10 came and went and I went to ask staff if dessert was ready yet. "It's coming now, it's being prepared". OK, maybe they're picking the apples fresh for the Apple Betty and baking the brownie fresh. By this time the restaurant was emptying. But after 2 more reminders, it was 2.25pm and no dessert. The manager reports "it's being prepared now". I reminded her that when she seated us and took our order, no indication was made that we wouldn't be able to get to the cinema in time. 2.30pm and I appealed to same manager that we were leaving and could we have a refund. She said "yes, of course, but dessert is being prepared". Oh for goodness sake, just get on with the refund, woman! We got our £2.50 (says it all - two dessert for that price weren't going to be homemade lol!). No real apology. Got to the cinema (just a 60 second drive thankfully!), thank goodness we were pre-booked, it was packed! Movie started as soon as our bums touched the seats. Not impressed with the service. Food was OK. Marginally better than McDonalds but a lot more expensive. read more

I took my family to the Brewers Fayre in Carrickfergus on 14th May 2011. We were told to go to the counter and order our drinks and main course and pay for the order and that extra drinks and sweets would be served to the table. I had ordered a sirloin steak medium/well done. It arrived with the blood running out of it. I returned it. The same steak came back absolutely cremated. I returned it again. We finished our meals, no extra drinks or desserts were offered. In fact we were completely ignored. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I understand now why they expect you to pay up front. No one would pay for such disgusting food after having sampled it!!! I would urge you to avoid this restaurant at all costs!!!! read more

Not so good - the food is essentially pre-packaged and cooked from frozen. Burger and chips, basically like the oven chips you might make at home, with a Rustlers burger. Not great. Go to The Swift, Papa Brown's or Springsteens instead, all nearby. read more

This is place is great if you want quick, pub grub. Ok it's not gourmet but it is cheap and quick, without the nasty. |The ydo a 2 main courses for a Tenner deal and desert i think only costs £1.00 each more. There is alos a family deal, whic hif I rember was 2 courses for 2 adults for £20.00 it might even have been £15 but don't quote me. They offer bottomless drinks for a set price with unlimited refils on both hot and cold beverages. They have buffet nights such as mexican, indian and chinese which I havent sampled yet. It is light and airy inside and best of all, there is a soft play area for the kids. I cant fault it all, staff are efficient and pleasant, you simply take your table no: and order to the bar and pay when you order, then yhour food is brought to you. read more

The first time we visited Brewers Fayre we were pleased with our meal and were glad to see the monthly discount vouchers which we didn't get a chance to use!! the second time our two year old was with us and he was very happy about the very impressive play area, this time however the meals were terrible. . . I had bangers and mash which was basically chewy sausages and AUNT BESSIES MICROWAVEABLE MASH! ! ! The taste and texture was unmistakeable and after trying these at home I would sooner have starved than cook them again let alone pay for it in a restaurant. My partner had fish that a somewhat strange taste accompanied by three human hairs. The only reason why we didnt complain at the time was we had an appointment to get to and wouldnt like to think about what we would be given after making a complaint if that was what would normally be served in the guise of food. I do accept the fact that the food isnt expensive but this does not excuse such laziness as not even taking the time to peel a potato when even the smallest of establishments and machines that do it for you!!! read more
