Absolutely disgusting pure rubber. Rubber probably would have tasted nicer!

This Brewers Fayre is situated alongside Carrickfergus Premier Inn, with is right on the seafront in Carrick, and beside the castle, so in terms of position, this is a winner! They have lots of outside benches and is a lovely spot to sit and have a drink on a sunny day, and watch the world go by. The inside of the bar/restaurant is large and spacious with lots of tables, but it is laid out in a way where you can have privacy at your table, which is good. They also have a kid's play area which is great for the little ones. I've taken stars away though for the food. It's cheap, and the one time I got food there, was absolutely awful - maybe I got unlucky. I had the 'loaded nachos' which had obviously been exposed to air for too long and were soft. They were also salted to the extreme, and a handful of grated cheese which tasted like nothing was thrown on top, unmelted. Guacamole also tasted like nothing. I may give it another go for food, but I won't try that one again!

After a visit last night I have to update my review, the food was better and it was quieter than id expected the play area was quiet too and I like the way the toddler area is separated from the play area for larger kids. Very few places that well suited for parents when your stuck for a babysitter

Great place to take kids and relax ... Food can be hit or miss at times but the location and fact that it is family friendly makes up for it.

Thought I would update my review. I've bought food in here a few times and it is nice but some dishes aren't that great like the burger it was gristly and the fillings were lacking but today I got rump steak and chips with 2 small onion rings. The rump steak was cooked to my liking and tasted quite nice, nice and smoky flavour. The chips were nice, the onion rings I wasn't so keen on they were like shop bought but they were crispy which is good. I got Americano coffee for £2.55 and its unlimited after that, fill up as many times as you like. I got a deal on the rump steaks I got two of them for £11.99, good deal. There is a children's play area to the back of the restaurant which is good, small but good for children. Although the bigger kids tend to run into the toddler area which isn't too good. I think the toddler area should be cordoned off just for the use of toddlers. Seating area outside the restaurant. Lots of car parking outside.

Cheap and cheerful, good for families with something for everyone on the menu. Big portions and good value. Can be very busy at times.

It was the biggest sticking point for me before I went and I took more than my fair share of persuasion before I went. On my first and last visit, I was with friends who have frequented the place more than once so I followed behind them and did as they did. It's really not the sort of place I would ever visit again. You can bring your own alcohol which makes it more bearable. However, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable throughout it as it just is not my sort of thing. Ironically Shisha is meant to help you relax. For some people, this is the perfect place to go and chill out and for that reason you are welcome to it. I would rather a pub and a club to loosen myself up. It can often be over used but this is the epitome of 'you'll like it if it's your sort of thing'. It's not mine and I really did not enjoy it.

It's bring your own which makes it quite cheap as well and because it's Shisha, it can be smoked inside, which is very convenient. On the night we went there was an acoustic session going on which added to the very chilled out atmosphere. Apparently it's been having some licensing issues but hopefully that can be sorted out. It's a great place to chill at lunch or for a night out.

Since we had already had lunch we sat at the bar for a beer. We were greeted by a nice bartender. We told her we were looking for either a beer or cider. There are a few tables outside to enjoy the weather and a few tables inside. The bar area downstairs is small with quite a sizable collection of bras hanging from the ceiling. We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there. We didn't try any food but loved the beer and cocktail options and really enjoyed talking to both the bartenders. Stop by and check it out.

Contrary to what has been said, I feel 100% safe in this bar, and unlike a lot of other places that can get a bit rowdy, I have never seen anything untoward in this bar whatsoever. Anyway, the Joymount Arms, or Ownies, as it is locally known, is pretty much one of the liveliest most popular bars in the town. They have had a refurb quite recently, and there is loads of space for everyone (my only complaint previously was that, owing to its popularity, it got so packed and it was hard to move!) They have two bars downstairs, and a further bar upstairs with a function room and balcony. They have a huge, covered smoking area with widescreen TV's outside, and lots of heaters, so even in the middle of the winter, you won't get cold! They have lots of live music, promotion nights, quiz nights, you name it. You will definitely have a great time here. Anyone who does not like this place must have a screw loose!
