I love BrewDog beer, it's tasty beer, they have good consistent beers and they have beers that when you taste em you think 'I didn't even realise you could do that with beer' it's a beering experience.
But Toby this is what PSBH does, yes you are correct the new BrewDog bar is doing what PSBH does and that's to take people away from the mainstream and shove something in their faces they probably didn't know existed.
The two places do however vary from each other, which is brilliant because that means they achieve your varying needs for awesome beer differently.
I was partially-annoyed that the Council had denied BrewDogs license request up in the Northern quarter, I think it's ridiculous to stop new businesses to move into an area where their are so many empty units. But. It has definitely worked in my favour.
BrewDogs beers obviously dominated the beer offerings on pump and in the fridge, which is okay because their beer is great, they do however stock a myriad of different breweries too, not to the same level as Port Street by a long stretch but they do have other offerings anyone who's inhabited there online store will recognise many that they've got in the fridge. Beer prices are similar to PSBH, BrewDog also offer more beers that you only get by the Shot and what I also pleasantly saw by the Third too. Being able to buy beers in different measures is very important, please please quieten down Mr Man shouting PINTS PINTS PINTS, pints are great if you're having a supping beer but if you're after trying a whole range of flavours getting different measures is a must and long may it continue to expand its presence on the beer scene.
So Awesome beer selection achieved
BrewDog serves food, now this is a biggy for me, in my eyes its the only thing that stops PSBH being the holy grail of Beering. BrewDog have pizzas and burgers from what I could see (I didn't actually manage to find a menu), I got myself a burger, as I say couldn't find a menu so not sure if there's chips as well but I don't think so as I didn't see anyone have any. and it was a really tasty burger good flavour going on, will definitely be partaking in that maybe during lunchtimes which I'll be able to do bringing me to my next point.
BrewDog is not far off being on the opposite side of town to PSBH which is actually great...for me, PSBH is staggering distance to Picc Station where I am daily, and BrewDog is meandering distance from my office at Spinningfields(where I am at least in body, daily) brilliant!
I can see BrewDog getting a lot of business from Spinningfields which really lacks heavily beer orientated establishments.
BrewDog sports a small beer garden on the front, now If I've got my orientation right it's south facing which means I'm really keen to see how it fares over the summer I'm hoping for much relaxing out the front of the place with the sun beating down though I'm now sure how all the big tall buildings will factor in, I'll just have to do some research in the form of keeping attending BrewDog (it's a cross I'll have to bare but I'm prepared to do it)
Inside I completely forgot to go upstairs like a numpty, it was partially because the place was PACKED and we literally grabbed a table inside as soon as we could which helpfully for us was 5 foot from the bar :-D PEURGH! *fist pump*
Service was okay, this is not a negative, these guys were seriously rushed off their feet (it's opening weekend) so it was very much a take your order get it back to you bish bosh done, and based on one visit it would be massively short sighted of me to label the service permanently, at PSBH I like being able to chat to the staff get recommendations so I try something new, in BrewDog I didn't feel I could do that, though as I say this is not a permanent label on the staff the place was packed for it's opening weekend, hopefully over time when I'm in when it is quieter I'll get a good chin wag going over beer selection
So BrewDog good beer, tasty food, alright location. Long may BrewDog continue to promote the Beer Revolution to Mancunia! read more
