In labor and delivery, the nurse told us that the facility was recently updated. All the medical equipment was new, and the fetal monitor they used was even wireless. The only slight hiccup was that there was nearly no room in postpartum care. Fortunately, we got the last room in the overflow floor. Having giving birth in another state, I was extremely impressed by how updated everything was in the overflow room - the shower was brand new, and the bed could be operated to lengthen or sit at various angles. For pain management, I was a little surprised that their policy is to give ibuprofen only upon request. At the previous hospital I was at, they had a regimen switching between Tylenol and ibuprofen. Parking was probably the most difficult part. The main parking lot is a little far, and you have to use a different entrance if you're coming in the evening (rather than the main entrance of the women's hospital). However, when we left, my partner was able to temporarily park in the rotunda to make the commute a little shorter.

I got so lost just trying to park and find a level to cross over to the hospital entrance. Make sure you go to ground level and make your way over to the entrance. Nurses and doctors are great. Also there's a hallway connecting the main hospital to the cancer center so you don't have to leave the parking lot to go there. Part of the maze that's not as bad. Parking is $4 on the Kellogg side for up to 6hrs the. It jumps to $20! If you're on the Kellogg side, you can get a parking sticker which reduces it back to $4. On the hospital side I don't think you can get a sticker so we'll be paying $20! If you're in the Evanston area then this is a good hospital option. If not, it's not worth driving from far away.

Dr. Engle is FANTASTIC. My mom was in absolute agony with a fractured L1 vertebra. Horrible pain,…read moreshe couldn't walk or do daily activities. She's 94, but active, and not a pain complainer. So when she complained of severe pain . . . something had to be done. Northwestern did NOTHING. Four hospital admittances - just take Tylenol. She lives at the Breakers, and I happened to see the "pain management" sign - have to do something, let's try this. IT WORKED. Beautifully! An injection of special surgical cement in the cracked vertebra took away her pain, saved her life, really. She's back rocking, doing PT, riding the recumbent cycle, walking and eating dinner with her friends. I am so glad we came here. She's happy again. Dr. Engle is super knowledgeable, and patient. He's very honest, with clear explanations of the treatment he prescribes. He explained everything to my Mom, made sure she was comfortable and clear on her treatment. Answered all questions, and is just a great, friendly, awesome, upbeat person. Everyone in the office is fantastic. The facility is clean, and masks are worn. Day of her treatment, he was efficient, and the procedure was done in a short amount of time. Again, clear instructions about home care, and healing time. His solution worked great. She has another back issue now, but not as severe. Did not take any convincing to get her to come back here to have that solved. Don't endure back/spine pain, come here!!!

Not only that he was able to find the source of my pain when I thought I was a hypochondriac but he put my mind to rest when he discovered what was wrong with me and causing me debilitating pain through my entire body. The staff politely explained the procedure and along the way toward my procedure had everyone explain to me what was going to occur. They spoke to me and allowed me to take my time in mental preparation . They are probably the kindest, gentleness and loveliest people I have probably had the pleasure of being helped by, if not the best at what they do. I strongly recommend them and I am highly nervous of the medical profession. I was given wonderful and delicate care. Thank you Dr. Cha ,his lovely nurse and everyone on his staff for helping me else for helping me.

It has now been 2 weeks and my pain level is about 50% of the level prior to the procedure. Dr Cha indicated I should see additional relief over the next 6 months. Given the severity level of back pain I had experienced for the past 30 years I am very pleased with the results so far. The Doctor and his team were very professional, answered all of my questions, and made me comfortable and confident prior to the procedure. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Cha to anyone experiencing pain.

I saw the APAC doctor at the office on Broadway and Diversey, but feel my experience was awful…read moreenough to be worth repeating for all the locations. Went to see one of the doctors, referred by my orthopedic surgeon. The APAC doctor completely ignored my actual complaints, did a perfunctory exam, and told me I needed to go on an expensive name-brand medication for a condition that I've never been diagnosed with - and which requires a neurologist to diagnose. I refused, which clearly pissed the doctor off. He proceeded to diagnose me with a certain joint dysfunction that could only be addressed with a floroscopy-guided steroid injection. No other treatments possible, no other option, injection or nothing. I had the injection, despite my misgivings, because I really am in a great deal of pain. It hurt, but that's to be expected. I was hustled out the door afterwards with the briefest aftercare instructions possible, presumably because I was the last appointment before lunch. I assume the rush to get me out the door is the reason they didn't warn me that the steroid injection also contained a heavy-duty anesthetic that would make my leg, from the hip down, completely numb. My leg gave out as I left the building and I went face-down on the sidewalk. I had to be assisted into a cab, wobbled my way to my house, and had to literally CRAWL up the stairs. The next two days were spent on crutches. Once the anesthetic wore off, my pain returned. A visit to my orthopedic surgeon this morning confirmed my suspicion - there is nothing wrong with the joint in question. I received a painful, expensive procedure with significant risks and side effects to deliver a shot of steroids to a perfectly healthy joint. Avoid at all costs. Unless, of course, you have an extra $5,000 or so and you'd like to get a needle full of anesthetic and steroid shoved into a perfectly healthy joint. Update 11/12 - APAC has contacted me by phone and postal mail to alert me to the fact that the steroid that was used in the injection is from the batch tainted with fungal meningitis. Two patients from the Chicago-area APAC centers have developed the illness. It's been over fouth months since my injections, so I'm unlikely to be sick, but it's infuriating. Talk about adding insult to injury - or in this case, injury to insult. I've also been diagnosed with a congenital malformation of the femoral neck. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my SI joint.
