You would think they would hire people who are able to help you during these difficult times and who are empathetic to peoples' situations.... it seems like they just hire anyone who can answer a phone. ‍‍ Every other dispatcher I talked to was helpful and professional. The staff employee that was told about the incident acted completely unprofessional and rude. Another lady there called the Melbourne Police. When the police arrived they paid absolutely no attention to the child and his well-being, didn't examine him for marks and actually didn't even realize he was still hiding under a table right behind them while they spoke with the father for over 15 minutes, who actually was able to trick the police completely into thinking he only grabbed the back of the child's neck (to press a relaxation pressure point). Not only was it unbelievable to see Police behave in such a naive and irresponsible manner, they actually ended up threatening to arrest and trespass the other families that were concerned about the child's safety. I pray that that child doesn't continue to get strangled. And after hearing some of the police's threats, I sincerely hope the Melbourne Police get more training on Florida State Law. Evidently you can be threatened by the police for any reason the actual criminal can make up. Wow. I wasn't even involved in this but it's just disgusting how awful these cops behave and how little they know about enforcing the actual "Law". And I understand parents are aloud to discipline their children how they sit fit in the state of Florida, however with 20-30 witnesses nobody bothered speaking to, who I'm sure would have gladly reinforced the story they were originally told about how the child was choked. If you're a police officer you can not make up fake laws that don't exist for instance "you can't video record with your phone or you can be arrested". Strange to hear since that only applies to audio recording in a private environment with the other party completely unaware they're being audio recorded. Or telling someone they're trespassed and need to leave, without filling out any trespass paperwork what so ever or even being instructed to do so by management/ownership of the establishment. It's unfortunate our children have to grow up learning that police like this exist. This happened 8-12-2017 4pm at Shore Lanes Bowling Alley and had three female police officers responding. This doesn't reflect on all police officers and I apologize to the great officers that serve that I have the utmost respect for. My Wife that has a repeated yearly cycle now of 4 straight years of taken off due to blaming husband for her leaving ,but the real reason each time has been she relapsed and was ready to run while pregnant again currently. It took me several attempts to even get the dispatch to have a officer call me. They misguided me the first time,stating I needed to contact my local sherriffs department. So I'm on a storm call in Rhode Island ! I call Road Island Sherriffs department as told! They stated incorrect information given. I call my Ormond Beach Police Officer which is my current residence. I spoke to a very professional officer that gave me the same statement as Rhode Island Sherriffs Station. You do not have to contact your local department if outta town. Ok now I call back edgewater police department with street address where my Wife and kids are suppose to be staying. Then after telling the dispatcher or officer that answered I was told by two different departments in two different states they mislead me, I finally had a street patrol officer call me . His name given was officer Potter! Officer Potter was so unprofessional that he started questioning the father as to why I was wanting a wellness check at 2am in the morning as he sat at the residence address that I wanted confirmation from that my children were safe with their mother. Not dropped off at Amy Ownby's residence while the Mother took off on another run as she has done at each pregnancy totaling two prior in past 3.5 years with me and her first child same thing with another man. After about 2.2 hours of trying to get a confirmation my kids were safe and the mother was with them at Amy Ownbys residence! I was refused a wellness check after Officer Potter called me back and stated his sergeant agreed it was not a needed wellness check. This officer Potter & His office has neglected to perform their duty as required by state Laws. Once I return home from helping out to restore 800k people without power I will be taking this situation to a higher state office. I truly hope this officer understands he refused to confirm my addict Wife and two helpless children were safe together and my kids weren't dropped off at a family members house while she took off using. They don't listen,there all jail happy. Made a big shit show scean. They acted like I was wrong even thow I had a poa from the state of Florida. There looking for issues and if they find nothing they try to invent something if they want to fight real crime go be a Daytona cop. Now they have real crime to deal with. This place is stolen bikes and pulling people over for nothing the only one with common sense is the caption he was very nice and professional. I asked for the PD to visit the individual and was told to let it go. 7 Months later I am still dealing with this individual. So, as it goes, it was a waste of time. I recommend using the "Stand your Ground" law in the future. Because the local PD most likely will do nothing to keep the issue from escalating.
