The Grand Rapids, running tours encompass such a tremendous variety of tours from murals to cemeteries and everything in between. As others have mentioned don't let the name fool you running, is not required. I've been on a few of her guided tours, and always come away with a better appreciation of our city, and its rich history. Last fall we took the Fulton Street cemetery tour on Friday the 13th and despite the abysmal cold weather and steady downpour, we found the tour engaging and interesting. She almost bombards you with too much information as her notes are plentiful and her words fly quickly it can be a lot to take in. if you have the opportunity and have a curious mind, do not hesitate to join one of these tours.

My boyfriend and I recently did a special tour of the Rad Women public art project throughout downtown Grand Rapids with GR Running Tours. Our guide Caroline was super friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, and fun to listen to! She made sure to keep everyone in the large group together and kept a pace that was manageable for all. We learned about all the women depicted in the murals as well as the local artists who painted them. The tour we took was 3+ miles but they offer shorter tours with all sorts of themes, including architecture, art, haunted spots, the history of Beer City USA, firehouses, etc.! There are many options. The tours are great for visitors and locals alike, as there is so much history to be learned. Highly recommended!

We finally got to experience the Saugatuck Dune Rides! You have to make a reservation online ahead…read moreof time, and slots book quickly. The ride is about 40 minutes and includes some information on the history of the area (including about the buried town of Singapore- so fascinating) as well as a quick stop at the top of a dune. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of dense fog in the area for our ride, but it was still a good time. They get going pretty quick, but I wouldn't say it's a thrill ride. Definitely hold on to your hats/loose items! We saw two young fawns in the woods which was a highlight of the tour. There is a souvenir shop with some snacks, bottled drinks, bathrooms, and some historical items like newspaper clippings about Singapore. Plenty of parking and some outside seating as well.

Our driver was great, he told a lot of funny, corny jokes but also gave us a lot of history as well and was very friendly and kind. The gift shop did not have a lot to offer mostly just shirts (with boring, disappointing designs) and a few gifts but I was happy to see a smashing penny machine as my sister and I collect these kitschy things. I highly recommend this tour.

There is a beautiful exterior with some pretty nature trails nearby. The inside seems to be somewhat wasted space as there is a small exhibit section, a play section, and a gift shop but also wide open conference room space, classroom space, and bird watching space that could have a bit more interaction to occupy little hands and minds. I appreciate the toddler friendly activities in the play space, though. It didn't look like much but there was a nice assortment of books, puzzles, stuffed animals, and a couple other things that could be pulled out and gone through one at a time to take up space. My son also enjoyed the nature trail storybook outside, although it was a bit long for little legs and we didn't get to finish. Overall, I really enjoyed my outing here and think a few small additions could make this center even better.

With some friends from out of town visiting, they wanted to try and do something a bit more unique and this fit the bill. There were 9 of us total, I think we could fit up to 13-14? We were told to arrive at 6 for a 630 start but our tour guide did not show up until a little after 630 and seemed a bit disgruntled that we were all waiting on a super hot day. We were even told that they switched guides last minute to handle our reservation even though we were there with ample amounts of time. I'm not really sure why that was relevant to share with us but it was uncomfortable and made us feel like no one wanted to take our group. We also didn't get to choose our stops (I guess they said we didn't choose on time?? Though it's not like they had reservations for us, so I'm not sure why that mattered if we could have chosen the day before) but still had a great time! I think they should provide a bit more guidance with picking seats and how to work through but I really do think that we just had someone who was rushing through and it felt a bit awkward. I can't say that I'd opt to do this again in the future but glad I had the experience.

For anyone considering DonStar, please just say NO! Allow me to share my one and only experience…read more My wife and I contacted DonStar for assistance finding an adult novelty shop in the Holland area. Sure enough, we were told that they could assist. Curiously it took us two hours to get to the location - from Zeeland to Holland via Pullman? - and it wasn't even the right place. DonStar had taken us to Evergreen Commons, a retired persons activity & community center! WTF? We want adult novelties and DonStar takes us to an old folks home?? -3 stars for gross inaccuracy. Plus, I could have sworn the representative was either drunk or had some kind of mental impairment - lots of rambling and use of the word "gosh". -1 star for unprofessionalism. Not being one to completely trash on others, I do have to say that the representative did a passable job of keeping us amused - when we could understand what he was saying. As we rambled about the countryside he regaled us with a story about his Uncle Goober and some unfortunate, embarrassing event involving a three-legged llama and some veterinary-grade suppositories. +1 star for entertainment value. All in all, DonStar isn't worth the hassle. You'd be better off calling Jimmy Johns for directions.
