Pretty nice hotel in Park Rapids that will meet your needs and you likely know what to expect. The…read morecharms of this place include that the lobby has a fireplace and is a nice, warm, and welcoming space. The continental breakfast is a step above many other similar hotels- they have waffles, the usual type of items (English muffins, danishes, etc), but also have a cooler with breakfast sandwiches, French toast sticks, and omelets. It was nice to see such a big variety of choices. The rooms are nice overall, no real complaints there. Nothing remarkable, but fit our needs. The hot tub was out of order, but there is a nice pool and a sauna. The pool roof has a lofted wood ceiling, which is always a pleasant design.

Where to begin ... We had a family reunion at the Park Rapids AmericInn and it was a disaster from…read morebeginning to end. Most of the rooms were not ready after 4:00 (check-in time). And here's the biggest complaint - I woke up on Sunday morning with a bug crawling right by my face. I pulled back the covers and there was another one. I'm pretty sure they were bed bugs. I ran into the shower, threw all my stuff into a big bag (and left it outside when I got home). When I told the desk and showed them my video of the bugs, the only thing I was told was they would let the managers know. I called the managers a few days later and they had no recompense, not even a free night. I would think bugs in my bed would merit some reaction, but nothing. I was told to call the corporate office. When I called the corporate office, they said it is the hotel's responsibility. Also, I should mention that my son's room had a broken lock so they told him he would have to come to the desk every time he wanted to go in or out of his room to get it unlocked (or leave it unlocked). Seriously??!! After waiting at the desk for a long time throughout the evening because no one was at the desk when he wanted his door unlocked, he gave up and left it unlocked. Is there no one there that can fix the lock?? So now I find out our next family reunion is at another Wyndham AmericInn Hotel in a different location. I'm willing to forgive and forget so when I went to make my reservations, I saw that I did not get all my points from the bed bug hotel. I chatted with the corporate office to find out where the points were. After waiting on hold for over 15 minutes, I finally heard from the Customer Service person (I use that term loosely), who types that I'm only allowed points for 3 rooms per stay. Who knew??? Then he/she types "Is there anything else I can help with?" and signs off immediately ... so I guess I don't. My conclusion is that it is not a local hotel problem, it starts at the corporate office with really bad customer relations and no desire to provide customer service. I may find a different hotel close by for the family reunion this year - I don't want to give any more of my money to Wyndham/AmericInn (plus hopefully I'll have a better chance of not getting a bed bug room again). The photos are taken from the video I showed the front desk.

Anytime we had a question or needed something, they went out of their way to accommodate us. We stayed in the Lake Front Apartment Suite, which was spacious, comfortable and beautiful! The kitchen table had been covered with some kind of vinyl paper with pieces missing off the top creating holes in it. The kitchen floor was warped with 2 large holes in it, creating a safety hazard for tripping. The towel bar in the bathroom was coming out of the wall. The bedroom & closet doors were extremely difficult to open on the carpeting. There was only 1 room key for 4 of us who stayed there. When I asked for additional keys was told they didn't have any. There wasn't any bedding for the 2 futons we were going to sleep, & I had to call & ask for them. I gave a list of items that needed repairing upon checking out & requested a partial refund. The only staff member ( who seemed to be lacking in good customer service skills) also wasn't able to print a copy of my receipt & said it would be emailed to me, but I never received one. She said the owners would get back to me. Even after sending several emails, & more phone calls the owners never bothered to respond back to me. I have done extensive traveling & stayed at all different kinds of lodging in North & Central America & Europe but have never encountered a room that had so many things wrong with it, for the price I paid.

This hotel is part of a historic landmark in Walker, Minnesota. When you are visiting and folks ask you where you are staying and you mention, "Chase on The Lake" , their response is always positive - like "wow, that's a really great place!". I never got any, "Wow, wait until you're awake in your room at 3 AM." or anything of that sort. Situated on along Leech Lake and in the middle of downtown Walker, it's very easy to come down and take a walk around the area. I stayed in a room right above the restaurant on the first floor, with a lake view (every hour is a different "wow" as the sun makes its way around the lake). It's rather convenient staying in that room because one can always check out the restaurant deck by looking out of the window (in case it may be crowded). You can walk down the stairs from there to the restaurant / deck. Just be aware of their hours as the door at the end of the stairwell will be locked when the restaurant is closed. There is always another way to the deck and that is through walking out and by the side of the Copper Spa building (road leads to the dock too), which is still a part of the hotel. Parking in front of the hotel is ample but there were weekdays where it seemed like there were a lot of cars - must be because it was in the summer and people just love the lake. Going back to the spa - they aren't open daily. There is a pamphlet by the front desk for the spa. I made the mistake of assuming they're open daily on the week and missed out on a potentially soothing deep-tissue massage (or pedicure!). There is a little pool where kiddie birthday parties are often held. Speaking of front desk, they're always very cordial EXCEPT for this young man during this one evening who looked like he couldn't care any less about guests coming in or out - I figured he may be new or just tired of life (at 18 LOL). My room was clean, well-equipped with the basics like a hair dryer, microwave, a fridge and bathroom toiletries . The housekeeping does not come in on a daily basis. They're on-demand. You take your bag of trash and leave it outside your door and the housekeeper will pick it up in the morning. The shower water is warm enough and just right. Despite being a very old hotel, my room did not have any of that old and musty "odor" , not even the hallways nor the stairwell. The TV, however, was pretty complicated, standard and nothing like the Marriott, etc. where the TV was smart, HD and easy to navigate. It wasn't a very big deal though, but it's always a plus if the TV was HD and smart nowadays. I must say, this review is a nice suggestion for a bedtime read at the Chase on the Lake, because at this point, I'm so sure you'd have snored off. I hope the pictures entice you though!

I found the racks had cleaner that had not been rinsed off; and the racks were still covered with grease that I couldn't rinse off. I mentioned the mouse droppings when leaving and was told the cabin is 90 years old and mice get in, and was told I should of taken the batteries out of the smoke detector if that bothered me.
