I left it a little late to try to book my deal goodies in, but a short and friendly phone call later, I was assured a next-day pick-up would be absolutely fine. The girls at Camp Hill were such a delight to deal with, and I really wanted to try a little bit of everything in the front cabinet... and the bread racks. My order was all ready to go, and I had to struggle to choose just two breads from the shelves as part of the voucher. I ended up getting a spelt loaf and a pumpkin & blue vein loaf. You did not misread. Yum! I got them both in freezer bags, but if you're going to eat them fresh, Rock 'n' Roll put them in a paper bag instead (it's better for the bread). I got so excited about the breads, I almost forgot about the other parts of the order - a family-size lamb & rosemary pie, and a gluten free orange & almond cake. The cake is moist and full of flavour (I do admit to Cheesecake Regret when I saw the beautiful lime cheesecakes in the cabinet, despite not having that as an option with my voucher). The lamb & rosemary pie? Absolutely delicious. Big chunks of tender lamb in a creamy sauce. I'm not going to lie to you - I've had it for four of my six meals of the last two days, and I might cry when it's gone. Or I might just go buy another one... and one of those sweet potato & onion loaves, while I'm there.

Channelling the window displays of boulangeries in gay Paris, this place knows the key to effective marketing: people with taste buy with their stomachs. Ergo; I clearly have taste. But honestly, how could you possibly deny the lure of perfectly sculpted and singed spires of meringue upon a lemon meringue tart? Or the incredible hodge-podge of chocolate meringue curls sitting upon a gateau concord? Or the checkerboard design of a chocolate lavender tart? Maybe on an empty stomach, the sweet allure might be less magnetised, hence why they serve up a mean all day breakfast menu - featuring the likes of eggs Benedict on a croissant and scrambled eggs on brioche. It is upon consumption of these that you are more than likely going to sneak the lemon meringue tart home for afternoon tea. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The shop offers a very wide variety of pastries and cakes, I'm sure they have to clean the window several times a day to get the drool off from those stopping to stare. You can eat inside or out, and it's usually pretty busy so best to try and book a table in advance. It's a bit too hot for me in summer, the air con is not great inside (might be to keep the pastries nice I guess) so I usually restrict myself to take home treats unless it's winter :). Definitely a good place for high tea or to take an elderly relative out for brunch...fine china and service. Expensive but high quality food and drinks.

The first impressive piece for me in Le Saigon Bakery was the BBQ Pork Bun which was really amazing that I can taste meat on every single bite!! I loved this bakery since then. Till now i've tried a range of different stuffs of Le Saigon Bakery and every one of them has hit me with the taste, i do mean every one. I think the reason why Le Saigon is impressive is that ingredients are all well-selected and the baker treats his product with care. For those who would be attracted by my review and attend Le Saigon Bakery for the first time, i recommend you the Apple turnover, BBQ pork bun or Cheese bacon and onion roll if you are up to a proper breakfast, through which you will taste the enthusiasm of a good baker.

The pastry was buttery and flaky and I really like the fact that they sell day old items at a discount out front. Some bakeries operate a bit dishonestly and try to pass the day old stuff as fresh, while some others are wasteful and throw it all out to maintain the highest quality product. This bakery has found a great solution to the day old baked good conundrum, that many places face. I wish there was at least one vegetarian pie option, but that is a downside that won't affect the carnivores.
