Our family and another family went the Dinner Sleigh Ride when we were in Breckenridge last week. We all felt it was "meh". The sleigh ride was nice, but the ride literally went up the same green ski slopes we'd been on earlier in the day (Silverthorne and Lower Sundown), so that wasn't very new or exciting. The food was OK, but not great (a very basic salad, generic mac & cheese, pretty bland "jerk" chicken, beef brisket and some roasted carrots). And it was a self-serve buffet, including getting your own napkins, utensils and drinks from coolers. We also cleared our own plates at the end of the meal. The Cash Bar only offered canned Coors beer or shots of fireballs - no other beers, no wine, no other liquor. (Had we known this, we would have brought our own!) The live entertainment was 1 guy playing a guitar in the back. ... The best part was getting back in the sleigh at the end of dinner as the sun was going down over the mountains - that was beautiful! ... Overall, it was fine and we have some fun photos. But if you are thinking of going, I'd just do the sleighride and skip the Dinner. The food and dining experience definitely wasn't worth the extra $50 per person. read more

I was genuinely excited for a sleigh ride experience at Breckenridge Stables, but what I encountered instead was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had--especially shocking for a hospitality business. I paid $403 for five people for an 8:30 PM sleigh ride. Due to snow and ice on the mountain, our car began having trouble and we needed to return to Denver earlier than planned for repairs. I tried calling the business nine times and emailed four times throughout the day with no response. When I finally reached Brad, the manager of 25 years, he was immediately dismissive and said there were no refunds and no flexibility. Later, he told me we could take a 4:00 PM slot from another family who wanted to cancel. I agreed and received confirmation. Here's where it gets unbelievable: the 4:00 PM ride costs $268.75, far less than what I paid. When I politely asked if the price difference would be refunded, Brad refused and told me: * He shouldn't have allowed the switch * I needed to "get my attitude in check" * I wasn't welcome and shouldn't show up * He would cancel my reservation with no refund Meanwhile, the other family got the more expensive ride at the cheaper price, meaning I was paying the difference for someone else. Brad hung up on me twice, threatened to cancel my reservation repeatedly, and ultimately said he'd refund me only so he wouldn't have to deal with me and didn't want me coming to the business. I work in hospitality. I understand policies. But I also understand professionalism--and this was completely lacking. Weather-related safety concerns, zero communication, hostile behavior, and threats toward a paying customer are unacceptable. If you value respectful treatment, fairness, and basic decency, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Luckily my friend and I ended up being the only one in the group ride, so it turned into a private ride. They were very accommodating (since we were running late and had a wrong address per Uber. The horses my friend and I rode were Percheron which are bigger than other horses. They were sweet and gentle and Nora (our head "wrangler") was awesome. She was so sweet and we enjoyed our conversations with her as we trekked through some double black diamond paths. She was nice to take pictures and we had a wonderful time! read more

So much fun! A delightful way to spend some time on vacation, see the scenery and make new friends and memories. We meet at a beautiful golf course, and we were meet by a friendly face, and hot chocolate. We meet Brad, Miss Gracie Jane, and our draft horses, and off we went. They take out too many riders at a time. Like 12 with only two wranglers to manage. One of the trail guides was on a green horse that acted up on occasion. Six children under the age of 8 on our ride and these kids had never been on a horse. So much stopping and starting because one poor little kid's horses would just randomly quit walking and his little legs couldn't even reach the horses sides for a proper giddy up kick. July flies made the horses just miserable--constantly stopping to nip at a fly or stomp. Fly spray--it's a thing. It was a long 1.5 hour ride and the views would have been better enjoyed on foot. They have a lot of horses and a beautiful trail and sights. This is also super close to Breck city and makes it very easily accessible. But overall, service is not great. Though I understand that the horses cannot be chosen, there was absolutely no flexibility offered. Our kid was having a hard time controlling the horse and was kept at the back of the line and we could not change that, inspite of seeing that challenge throughout the trail. The wrangler was pretty young and did not have any authority to change horses or the order in which the horses rode. You're in a very controlled setting as you ride in a line with multiple people in a sizable group so dont expect to take off galloping into the wild. The sleigh ride with dinner on Peak 9 was awesome! First with the basics--registering was easy and parking was very convenient--only $0.50/hour and payable online via QR Code. There wasn't much waiting room space but there was plenty of hot chocolate which we drank while waiting in the car until the specified time. The wranglers were very friendly and generous and absolutely dedicated to making sure we had a fun time. They had lots and lots of blankets to make sure everyone was warm and didn't hesitate to answer any questions or address any issues. The food was surprisingly good--the brisket and chicken were both great and there was an "unlimited" supply. The entertainment was not overpowering so we could enjoy our own conversation or the music depending on the moment and song selections. This is the absolute worst experience I have had horseback riding. I have been horseback riding around the Vail area for 20 years and tried many stables this was the worst experience. When we called the stables they told us on the phone the ride would be 50% through the trees and 50% out in the open. The entire ride was through the trees which was not what was told to us. Following that, we had 8 other people on our ride, and we were in the back of the line so we could not hear anything the guide was saying. Additionally, there was a beginner who was a child who was not able to ride the horse and was at the front. We had to stop about 10 times where the guide got off the horse adjusted saddles, and talked to the child. At this point, it was a private ride for this child. We got back 15-20 minutes later due to how much we stopped. It didn't feel like we got to ride since we kept stopping. No where on the website does it say this a ride for beginners. Other stables mention that on their websites or have an age limit. We were a family of 3 and two of our horses did not like each other which was known prior to giving us those horses, so we were not able to get a family photo together. We were told the manager, Brad would give us a call and he never did. I sent him an email and barely apologized and wouldn't do anything for how bad our experience was. This is not worth the money! For a large group only 2 employee riders were assigned to guide and at least 1 of them could not control the animals. As a bonus, they allow young children to ride their own horse. My 4 year old had a horse of his own, led by the lead guide who was also on her horse. Horses are assigned to the riders based on riding ability. My son was on a 4 year old rode a horse that was 35 years old who only takes light rides once daily. While our horses were fun and a bit spirited ;). As you drive up, you're going to feel like you're going the wrong way. Keep driving on up on the ski runs. This place is amazing! First off, it was very easy to book on their website. When we arrived we got there early to check in and they told us we were allowed to go pet the horses. I felt really comfortable knowing they were encouraging folks to pet the horses, one wrangler even described the horses as large dogs so they love to be petted! I love animals so this whole experience was so great. There was a family in our group that had a young girl who only a few minutes in wanted off of her horse and to ride on the horse with her dad. There were no problems at all! They wanted the girl to be comfortable and were so kind to her when she was nervous. The wranglers were so helpful! My younger teen daughters and I found ourselves heading to Breckenridge and hoping for a horseback riding experience during our short vacation to the area, and Breckenridge Stables was our answer. Reservations were easy online and the emailed directions helped us find our way (there is a bit of a dirt road to traverse to get up there). Maybe they were a bit short staffed our particular day, because the administrative check-in procedure (along with the helmet rental, recommended by them and by me, given the trail, terrain, and relatively inexperienced riders) was more unorganized than it needed to be. But it was not a big deal. (The helmets should probably be included, rather than a $10 upsell). The wranglers were all very friendly and experienced, helpful with all sorts of riders--from young to older, novices and more seasoned riders. They have a lot of horses, and they did their best connecting the working horses of the day with the personalities set to ride them. Generally ours fit--mine was a bit sassy, but she stayed in line; one of our daughters' had an inclination to brush her into passing trees. I went on a trail ride with the guide Lilly. She was absolutely horrible. She did not communicate with or assist the trail riders. At one point, she got off her horse and started walking it because she could not control it. Then, she asked another guide to take her horse and she would lead the group by foot. The only commercial horse riding business to allow tandem rides! We had a great ride for so many reasons. Plenty of staff, Helpful wranglers, Bike helmets if you want one (child sizes too), Lots of horses (and a big corral so the horses get rotated), Easy to find on GPS (only one mile on dirt road from parking lot that GPS takes you to - a car can easily go on it) Two port-o-poddy's Our guide took lots of pictures for us And of course how much fun it was! A really beautiful trail with changing scenery including passing streams and creeks, a bit going up and down but guide goes slow and advises how to ride through those parts. Shiloh (pretty white horse) was responsive and I felt very comfortable riding tandem with her and my toddler in front (I do have a bit of riding experience already). *Bring cash or check* (this is industry standard for Colorado horse riding stables). Plan to arrive 15 min early to check in, put on your helmet if using one, and sign the waiver. They have 2 port-o-potty's. Our guide Victoria went a nice pace to enjoy the trail ride, checked in with the group often, and took it easy on the steep sections. I posted 5 pics and a four year old boy ride his own horse on this trail. So happy to have the opportunity to ride tandem and do a 1.5 hr trail ride at great deal through Groupon (paid $30 more to ride with my 3 year old on the same horse - totally worth it!) Absolutely LOVED our experience with Breckenridge Stables. Booking from KC was easy and hassle free, excellent customer service! Our wrangler, Cody, was sweet and friendly, knowledgeable of the animals and the trail offering bits of trivia along the way. He even took us up to the peak for pictures when it wasn't necessarily part of our scheduled ride! He made my daughter feel so comfortable and safe on her first real ride and sparked a real love of the animals and riding. Great ride, wished we would have booked a longer ride. Well worth the Groupon deal. After the 1 1/2 hour ride, wished we would have booked an all day ride. The scenery was beautiful, but I think longer ride would have opened up door to better views. Horses were exceptional. My horse, Applejack, was a real trooper, considering the extra baggage he was carrying.... The only issue was at the end when we bought pictures, waited around for the iPads to get charged to pay for the pics they take at the beginning of the ride. We brought our 3 year old son who was able to ride doubles with his dad, which was so nice because some stables don't allow it. Our trail guide was Morgan and she was friendly and experienced and really a joy to ride with. She made this novice rider feel at ease.
